Chapter 7

Abigail could feel the awkwardness that charged the air.

She paused, watching Asher who was staring right back at her with a serious face. She didn't want to upset him, so she got up, clutching the thin fabric of her nighties together.

Abigail sat down on the other side of the bed. This was very uncomfortable for her. She may have been married to him for a long time, but he felt like a complete stranger to her.

"What will happen to Emma and Clara?" She decided to fill the awkward silence.

"They will be investigated by the police, there seems to be a mastermind behind the whole incident. The police will take care of it, ``he said.

"Did the police find Clara's phone?"

"It was already broken when we found you…"

Abigail hissed. "Clara broke it! Those little bitches, now we will never know who the mastermind is?"

"The phone is broken, but we can access it's call records."

"That's right! How could I forget about that? So we can find out tomorrow right?" She asked.

"Hmmm. I have someone on it" Asher snuck under the sheets, turning off the bedside lamp next to him.

Abigail slowly laid on the bed, she would have preferred it if she slept on the couch, or rather still one of the guest room in the house. Part of her wanted to ask if it was okay she slept in another room, but a greater part of her didn't want to infuriate him.

She laid as still as a stone on the bed, blazing hard at her bedside lamp. It felt so strange to Abigail, laying down beside a man who was her husband, but was a stranger to her. She closed her eyes, thinking of Dave. Abigail couldn't help but wonder where he was and why they didn't push through with their wedding. She had to find answers to her questions by finding him.

She turned to Asher, there was no way she could tell if he was asleep, but suddenly his eyes snapped open and landed on Abigail.

"Won't you turn off the light, and get some sleep?"

"Uh…yes" Abigail turned off the lamp, lying one side of the bed in a stiff position. She stared into the blank darkness, breathing gently. She really could have preferred the sofa, Abigail didn't feel comfortable on the bed. She turned to look at Asher, his eyes was closed and it seemed like he was sleeping. She wasn't sure, so she turned to her about to sleep when large hand fell on Abigail's waist.
She jerked up, turning on the lamp. "Don't touch me!" She yelled.

Abigail's covered her mouth with her hand, how could she speak to Asher like that?
There was no need to look up, Abigail knew Mr Reed was glaring coldly at her.

The cold, low voice of Asher sounded close to Abigail's ears, "What did you say?."

"Mr Reed, I didn't say anything? What are you talking about" She looked at the man's hand that landed on her waist, Abigail's wanted to cry again, "I'm fat like this, how come you didn't divorce me, Mr Reed?"
Indeed quite surprised, after all, Abigail's just had seen the good figure of the Asher, he he looked ravishing handsome in the bathroom.

Why would he settle for her, who had grown fat and ugly, when he could find a slimer and more sexy lady.

She smiled bitterly, "Even I felt disgusted by my sight. You could have found someone more…" She was searching for the right word. "Sexier"

The room was quiet for a moment, before Asher said without haste. "True"

Abigail snapped her head to him. She didn't expect him to be so blunt.

His green eyes bored at her. "But, you also have some good merits."

She didn't expect him to say that, but it left her wondering. She turned on the bed, eyes wide with curiosity. "What merits?"
