Chapter 25
Asher's hand fell on hers compassionately, his gaze sunk.
He spoke in a voice that was colder than a tombstone, "He jumped to his death."
These five words flew like ten thousand arrows penetrating Abigail's heart. He committed suicide.
He jumped from a building!
How could a person as optimistic as her father go down the road of suicide by jumping off a building?
"My father would never commit suicide... there must be a mistake."
"Hmm?" Asher embraced her before they walked out of the cemetery.
Seating in the car, Asher gave Abigail his phone so she could read the information on it.
It turned out that Crawford's group went bankrupt two years ago, not only because of poor operation, but also because a batch of new drugs that were not up to par flowed into the market, and those who used the drugs had uncomfortable reactions.
Some people had diarrhea, others were allergic, and a few people, however, died outright.
Her father was overwhelmed, he couldn't take the shame, so he finally took the desperate path of suicide by jumping off a building.
Abigail's head kept pounding, and Asher held her hands.
The news was too overwhelming for her too handle, the fact thatt her father only commited suicide because the Crawford group had gone bankrupt due to bad operations was hard to bare. Crawford group had also destroyed several innocent lives.
Abigail felt it was completely her fault, if only she had partnered with father at that time he asked her to, she would have thought of a solution that would end up in bankruptcy, right?
Unfortunately, she couldn't remember anything from two year ago. Abigail did not know when the car drove away from the cemetery, and by the time she looked out the window, the car was already parked at the her new home.
Sitting on the sofa in the living room, Abigail was holding a cup of hot tea in her hand in hopes it may warm up her cold hands and also give her a few more moments of clarity. She had a lot of questions running through her mind and the only one that could give her answers seemed to be Asher.
"Asher, how did my mother become... that way?"
Abigail's heart was dripping blood, her mother was now in a vegetative state and she had to rely on a lot of tubes to keep her alive.
Asher had a thoughtful look on his face, "Shortly after your father passed away, a fire had broke out in your house, and you mother didn't get out in time. The doctor said she had sixty percent burns on her body."
No wonder the Crawford family villa was now so different? It turns out that there was a fire before.
No wonder her mother looked like that, with sixty percent burns, she must have been in a lot of pains.
Abigail bit her bottom lip.
"What about my... sisters?" It took a lot of effort for Abigail to say thosee words in full.
Asher thought for a moment before he slowly spoke, "The police didn't find their bodies at the fire scene, so they were both assumed to be missing."
Because the bodies of Ingrid and Eleanor could not be found, so the police did not judge them dead, but both missing? How could this be?
Abigail's eyes got red and swollen with tears, "Do you mean that they haven't been found all this time?"
"Mm." Asher hummed.
Why was her life terrible, her father committed suicide by jumping off a building, her mother was in a vegetative state, and now her sisters were missing? How can her family be destroyed just in two years?
Everything around her seemed to be non-existent, and Abigail was deeply immersed in her own thoughts.
She kept recalling the past with her parents, sister and sister, not daring to think that she would never see her father again, or even her sister and sister.
Although her mother is still alive, she was in coma, her body was in a tube and she looked so uncomfortable.
Night fell quietly and Abigail was lying on the bed, her blue orbs were glued to the ceiling, like someone that had lost its soul.
There were no lights on, the room was dark, but Abigail felt that her current world was much darker than this. Her tears kept falling down, already wetting the pillow. Suddenly, it was as bright as daylight, the lights were on
Abigail subconsciously shielded her eyes from the bright light.
She didnt want to talk, didn't
want to move, she just wanted to sleep as possibly not wake up.
But she was shocked when she was pulled up by Asher, her eyes widened when Asher picked her up by the waist.
Swallowing, she made herself sound with great difficulty.
"Asher, where are you carrying me to?"
Without answering her words, Asher carried her to the bathroom.
He turned on the tap so she could wash the dried tears that she had on her face.
After washing her face, Abigail still felt muddled.
"You don't need to care about me, go about your business."
Asher said slyly, "I really didn't care much about you before?"
The previous Abigail was a secluded, reserved person with a low self esteem, and almost zero communication with Asher.
"Then why do you want to care about me now? Is it because you feel sorry for me? Actually, I also feel pity for myself."
Abigail buried her entire face in the towel and let the pending tears flow.
She missed her dad, her sister and sister, and craved to eat the food prepared by her mom.
Crying, Abigail sat down directly on the ground.
Asher hated seeing her this way.
After pulling Abigail up from the ground, Asher hugged her tightly. His clothes were soaked with Abigail's tears but he didn't mind. After some minutes she stopped crying and calmed down a little.
"I'm sorry for getting your clothes wet again."
Earlier, when she had learned that she was suffering from selective amnesia, she hugged someone, Asher, and bawled her eyes out, his clothes were also wet from her crying.
Abigail so wanted to ask God if she had destroyed the world in her past life, otherwise why would her life become this bad.
Asher took off his wet shirt, leaving her in the bathroom to wash her face again. When Abigail came out of the bathroom Asher had already changed from his wet clothes to a simple white shirt and black pants.
Abigail went to her wardrobe and took out a black casual clothes to change into.
It was already seven o'clock in the evening and time for dinner but Asher did not force Abigail to eat like he always does, because he had something to do in the evening so he had gone out.
After Abigail ate a few slices of green vegetables, she left the dining room and sat on the sofa in the living room, hugging the pillow tightly in her arms. Bored, she turned on the TV, but had no idea what program was on, not that she cared, the only thing she was thinking about was her late dad.
Will she really never see her father again?
But she still had so many things she wanted to say to her him.
Her dad actually didn't approve of her being with Dave before, but in the end, he said that it was good that she felt happy on her own.
Slap!
Slap!
Suddenly slapped twice, Abigail held her stinging cheeks in surprise.
