Isabela Part 4

When I return to the room, Lobo is sitting shirtless in his chair, wearing only black underwear, downing the contents of a beer bottle in one go. My eyes trace the chaos of tattoos on his arms, spreading across his chest. I don’t say anything, just dress while glancing at him sideways. He remains masked, with a clenched jaw and a completely rigid posture. What hurt him the most? When I cursed at him or when I told him to just get it over with? When I made it clear that his careless touch really hurt me?
Determined to end this, I head toward my phone, but Lobo surprises me by grabbing it and starting to type something, completely shameless. And because I hate using passwords, he just needed to swipe up on the screen to unlock it.
“Hey! Don’t mess with my phone!” I snap, getting angry and ready to snatch it from his intrusive fingers.
“I put my number in your contacts!” he says, his voice sharp and cutting, completely different from how he’d spoken to me before. “I expect you to hold up your end of the deal!”
I get the impression his last sentence is almost a threat. I stare at his eyes—they seem strangely teary when he hands me back my phone. I had nearly forgotten about that damn deal. Just as I’m about to say that I’ll fulfill my part, my eyes scan the phone screen. The glimpse of those four letters shatters my heart. I stumble back, shocked, as I watch him reach for his mask. My God! My eyes land on the tattoo on his right chest, the damn word in dark letters... If I’d seen it earlier, I’d have known who he was.
“Destruction”—that’s what his tattoo said.
“No...” I whisper.
“Hello, snitch.”
I stare at Nate's face in front of me, and as the realization of the mess I’m in hits me, all I can do is raise my shields, become a wall, and turn my back on the man who just trampled my heart.
Once again.
