Chapter 184: Our New Path
**James**
Avery is taking all of this well. I understand why her parents wanted to bring her as a child to my tribe. They were right, I would have taught and protected her, and then when she was of age, I would have claimed her as my mate. But perhaps this way is better. Avery has what I couldn’t give her…the rest of her soul. I fully believe that a bit of her soul rests in each of us, especially seeing how she resurrected Donn. That man still gets on my nerves, but I see the value he adds to this family. Vincent? I am still unsure of. I think that he has let go of his darkness, but I still wonder if he is masking it and waiting for the chance to take Avery and use her to shape the world.
I remember her telling me about the visions she had of him, where he offered her just that. I can’t help but think that he knew her destiny and her true identity from the start. I am out walking around, thinking. We have been here for what feels like years, but I know it hasn’t been that long because Avery still hasn’t given birth. As I am about to return to the palace, a loud crack is followed by a flash of light, and two people walk out carrying a large golden dragon egg.
“Halt! Sit the egg down and step back,” I command.
The guy in the suit comes to an abrupt stop while the woman with wild red hair, similar to Avery’s, takes a step forward before she stops. When they set the egg down, her hair falls, and I see two pointed ears. She’s a pixie, but what is the guy with her? And who are they?
“Who are you and state your business?”
The guy holds up his hands. “My name is Gio, and I am a Gatekeeper, and this is Aurora, my mate. We came to return what was hidden.”
Everyone rushes out of the palace. Cassius freezes. “You look like the guy who vanished after giving me Avery’s engagement ring.” Avery holds up her hand, and the ring shines.
Gio smiles. “That was my grandfather, Gio.”
Bruce and Susie walk up to them. “Wow, it has finally returned.”
Aurora smiles. “Good, I was hoping that this was where it was supposed to be. My family has been trying to get it from Gio’s for centuries. What is it?”
Avery, Sam, and Mich kneel beside the egg. Avery looks back at all of us and smiles. “There are two in there. Two beautiful black dragons, but one is part wolf.” She looks at Sam and Mich. “Your mates have arrived.” Avery helps hatch the egg, and instead of infants, adults emerge.
The Goddess appears and looks on with a smile on her face. She approaches Avery. “Now, you will remain here as a Goddess, my daughter.”
Avery shakes her head. “No. I grew up without you and lost so much. I will eventually come and rule here, but not until I have lived a part of my life by my rules.”
The Goddess is taken aback. “That’s not how it works, Avery.” Susie, Sam, and Bruce try to tell her, but she brushes them off. Avery looks at all of her mates, including Armond and her friends. Drake appears beside Avery.
“The amulet. Use it,” he says.
Avery pulls it out from between her cleavage. “Mother, I hold what you couldn’t. This lets me go where you couldn’t.” She looks at Sam. “Brother, I am not leaving. I just won’t call here home yet. It will be a vacation home because I will make frequent trips, and now I won’t have to jump through realms.”
The Goddess sighs. “You are right, Avery. You can come straight here now, as can your mates and close friends. I will miss you. I will give you a parting gift and will see you when my grandchildren are born.”
With a wave of her hand, everyone was sent back to Talos on New Year’s Eve, and it was as if no time had passed while they were gone. “Well, I need a different New Year’s wish now,” Avery says with a giggle as her dress falls to the floor. However, she jumps back. “What is this?” She reaches into her cleavage and pulls out a small snail.
“It appears that we have a hitchhiker,” Donn says.
Just then, the snail erupts into flames and transforms into a man. He appears as if he is in his twenties. His eyes gleam flames and flare, and his hair mimics the dance of fire. He adjusts his flamboyant suit and smiles. “Hello, I am Alden, and I will serve as your guide, Miss Avery. I am here to offer advice and wisdom. Also, I hope we can incorporate some fun into this new destiny you are writing.”
Avery giggles. “I am sure that we can, Alden. But what are you?”
“I am a lava snail. I can show you how to hide in plain sight, consider all perspectives, and do it all with a special flair,” he replies.
Avery hugs him, and I refrain from grabbing her. If she trusts him, then I must learn to. She pulls back and says, “Great. We can work on all of that after New Year’s because right now, I want my mates and I don’t want anyone watching.”
He winks. “Understood, but it would be a great show, I am sure. Enjoy your night, everyone, and I will figure out exactly where I am because it seems familiar.”
After he left, I turned to Avery. “Do you trust him?”
She smiles, “Yes, my mother sent him. He will give us extra protection so that our children can be born in peace. Plus, I think I am supposed to help him find his mate.”
Vincent steps forward. “We will see everyone soon. Drake, Armond, your family on Altima because the darkness isn’t done, it is only restructuring.”
Avery nods. “Darkness and light both need each other. Let it restructure because we are doing the same. For now, let’s celebrate our new fate!”
