Romantic Surprises and Delicious Desires

I left my husband's office saying that I would wait for the ideal moment he was planning, although I was still quite frustrated. After work, he picked me up, and we went to Juan's daycare with that awkward silence between us, making it impossible to have a conversation. We picked up Juan and headed home, where he took care of our son while I headed to the kitchen to prepare dinner. I'm finishing cooking the fish when I notice my husband coming in with his restaurant uniform. He approaches me, gives me a quick kiss, and says:

"I need to go... But don't worry about waiting for me to come back. I love you, see you later."

Just like that. He left, and there I stood, wondering if we rushed back into things. That's what's on my mind while I have dinner, take a shower, change clothes, and lay down to sleep. In the middle of the night, I feel my bed moving, waking me up. I turn and find Carlos lying next to me. He comes close to me, gives me an intense kiss, then whispers a "goodnight" and turns to the other side, falling asleep quickly. I lie on my back, staring at my ceiling, thinking about when we'll get to the part where he'll make love to me.

After that fateful day, everything went downhill. If before Carlos got lost between my legs, now he barely kisses me without moving my body away from his. It's as if my husband is afraid of me. And so, as understanding as I could be, there's a limit to everything in life, and at that moment, Carlos was very close to crossing mine.

"It's fine that he said that, but who said only he can make this night unforgettable?" Alba questions as we get out of the car together. "You know, we're in the twenty-first century or something like that, equal rights for all!"

We're working together on a case where one of her clients wants a penthouse with a pool in Turó Parque, which is now my area. We walk through the property until we sit in the garden, waiting for Alba's client's goodwill, who hasn't arrived yet.

"Alba, I just want to have sex! I'm not looking to uncover anything other than what's between Carlos's legs," I say, irritated. "In any case, I tried that day at his office, and he said he wants to plan the most memorable night of my life..."

"Okay, but nothing stops you from doing something romantic and unforgettable for both of you. After all, if the mountain doesn't come to Muhammad..."

"The mountain goes to Muhammad," I finish, admiring the pool. "Okay, I think I can plan a romantic night. But I'll need help because Carlos is a master at doing this sort of thing."

"Then it's time to call in the girls," Alba says, smiling. "Trust me, after this night, that man won't get off of you."

"When we think about preparing a romantic surprise, the first thing that comes to mind is a candlelit dinner," Rúbia starts, savoring a salmon sashimi. After Alba's client's fruitful visit, we all went out for lunch at a nearby sushi bar. She continues gesturing sensually. "Dimming the lights gives a more intimate tone to the occasion, and the candles only illuminate the two of you, with everything else around fading into the background."

"So, it would be good to look for candles that match the setting," Raquel suggests. "Do you have an idea of where you'll do it, the date, those sorts of things?"

"I'll do it at home, so it doesn't raise suspicions," I start, excited, holding my notebook and a pen. "My sister already offered to watch Juan, what I need now is the decorations, the dishes..."

"Well, regarding candles, it would be nice to have those taller candles that go well with candlesticks, or the rounded and lower ones that are best suited for placing directly on the table," Isabel explains.

"Oh, scented candles to add an even more..." Paloma suggests.

"A really cool idea is to gather the best photos of the couple," Ruúbia proposes.

"Balloons... The good old balloons," Alba says. "Heart-shaped ones..."

"Roses, a table needs roses too," Laura suggests. "Some rose petals on top..."

"Carlos once made a path of rose petals," I remember, jotting down Laura's suggestion.

"Wow, who is this man?" Ruúbia exclaims, impressed.

"My husband doesn't play to lose."

"And neither do you," Isabel affirms. "Let me see... Oh, write down to buy a special set of dishes. Invest in white dishes that can easily be combined with different placemats, colored glasses, and various utensils."

"Don't forget to buy those heart-shaped containers to hold the rose petals," Raquel points out.

"You know what would be really nice? You making heart-shaped napkin folds. Can you do that?" Lucia asks, receiving a resounding no from me. She then starts showing me with her napkin. "You fold the square napkin in half, making it into a triangle. Then bring the bottom right corner to the top, making a smaller triangle on the side of the napkin. Next, do the same with the bottom left corner, bringing it up to the top corner and turning the napkin into a diamond shape. Fold the top point down into the diamond, leaving the back layer visible. Repeat the process with the other side."

From that point, I can already see the heart shape and a smaller diamond above it on the napkin, and she continues, "Turn the napkin inside out and place it upside down. Finally, fold the bottom point in half. Turn the napkin inside out again, and there you go!" She finishes, showing me the heart shape made from the napkin.

We all applaud Lucia's incredible performance, and she smiles at all of us, satisfied. I finish writing the checklist of everything that mustn't be missing for the D-Day. Then I stop and look at them with wide eyes:

"Okay, but what on earth do I serve a man who's practically a chef?"

Isabel, Lucia, Paloma, Ruúbia, Laura, Raquel, Alba, and I stare at each other thoughtfully. The only thing we're sure about from the menu is that I'll be the dessert.
