Chapter 42.
Chapter 42.
Estella’s POV.
I get in to the spell room as Loral stops me.
“Estella hold on, you can’t talk to her like this you’ll do something you’ll regret.” she says as I snap back around to her.
“I’m not going to talk to her, I’m going to kill her.” I state coldly swinging the huge door to the palace open.
“Estella! We at least need to know why she did it!” Loral yells from behind me as I feel my skin warm and my magic comes rushing to the surface. My heart throbs in my ears and I feel my stomach turn as I reach the door to the cells, pausing before pushing the door open I hear Loral’s footsteps stop behind me.
“She killed her. She doesn’t deserve to live.” I say just above whisper.
“I know dear but we need to find out if she knows anything more then we do.” She answers and I notice her hand on my shoulder, I take a few deep breaths feeling my magic calm down and my body cools.
“Ok, we will find out what she knows, then I’m killing her.” I say before walking in to the cold dark hallway.
It’s lined with iron cells and it smells like mould and death, the air is thick when we walk through.
“This way dear.” Loral says hopping passed me to continue down the hall, the last few cells are silver instead of iron and there’s a sweet but bitter smell in the air that makes me crinkle my nose.
“It’s wolfsbane dear.” Loral says softly as I nod and she stops in front of one of the cells.
Behind the bars is the shell of the woman I met a few days ago, her face sunken in and her skin white. Loral opens the cell stepping in as Matilda’s head snaps up, I feel my heart pound and my magic rise again. I have to take a few deep breaths before even being able to speak.
“Why did you do it?” My voice hoarse and low just above a whisper. She stares at me in silence making me even angrier.
“ANSWER ME!” I demand making her flinch back.
“I couldn’t let you have her.” She says coldly as her eyes darken.
“She’s my sister, I allowed you in to my home. I was accepting you as a part of our family and you killed her. I want to know why.” I say calmly focusing on controlling my magic.
“We could never be family!” She screams back as tears begin to pour down her face.
“You wanted her because she can create the new species, I over heard Rick talk with his men about how useful the girls would be to him and that every wolf wants them.” She answers and my brain spins, is she really this stupid?
“We are fairies! She was apart of our family and our only goal would have been to protect her!” I yell back making her flinch again.
“Your mated to a wolf! An Alpha at that! All they want is power and I wasn’t going to let my little girl get caught up in a power struggle between wolf packs” she states through gritted teeth and I can’t control it any longer.
My anger rises and my body ignites in small sparks as I allow it to flow through me, Matilda lights on fire within seconds making Loral step back and the now blazing woman runs around screaming for a few moments before collapsing to the floor in silence. I stand still watching her burn while smoke fills the room, my heart aches for the loss of yet another sibling.
I remain in place for a few moments after my flames stop just staring, watching her lifeless crisp body on the cold stone floor.
“Are you ok dear?” I hear Loral’s voice say behind me snapping me from my concentration as I notice my face is all wet. I’m crying.
I turn running from the cell and down the hallway back in to the palace, my heart pounds loudly in my ears muffling any sound around me. I stop once making it back to Loral’s spell room and collapse on to the floor, 2 small gnomes run around me frantically making noise as I give in to my body allowing it to relax. I hear Loral finally walk up behind me as she sits down next to me placing her hand on my back
“It’s ok guys, she’s ok.” She says calmly to the gnomes before requesting they bring some tea. I gently roll over on to my back looking up to her.
“Where is Ambers body?” I ask softly as tears still trail down my face.
“Oh dear not right now, we’ll handle that later.” She says as we continue to sit in silence in the middle of her floor while the gnomes come racing back with tea.
“Take me to her.” I finally break the silence after sitting quietly for too long, she sighs deeply before answering.
“Ok.” She says finally and we both stand up, she takes me down another long hallway in to a cold room.
“This is our morgue, I was going to talk to you about a funeral later.” She says softly getting quiet again as we walk over to a bunch of steel drawers.
Loral pulls one open revealing a small pale child with dark hair, she doesn’t even look like the same child I met a few days ago. Her body cold and lifeless, no emotion to her face and her once bright green eyes now closed forever. Tears rush down my face as I feel my soul break in to pieces, she didn’t deserve this, her life should have meant more then this.
“I want her brought back to my pack, we will burn her like we do with our fallen wolves.” My voice soft as Loral nods beside me. I place my hand on hers for a few moments not knowing how to even apologize for what has happened to her, turning to Loral I take a deep breath and we leave the cold clean room of death.
“I’ll have her brought over shortly, you should go back to the pack and have preparations made for her send off.” Loral says as she touches my shoulder softly once again, how does her touch calm me so easily? I inhale deeply and nod, going back to the spell room to cross back over to my side. Once I’m there I collapse on my couch and allow my mind to just relax for a few moments before it gives in and just explodes.
I eventually get up and go upstairs to get everything ready, I mind link Collin asking him to meet me just outside the garden. I explain what happened to him as I watch him fight back tears, he agrees to have some of the warriors build a large wooden coffin to burn Amber in. I go back to the kitchen to organize the food and set up outside for the ceremony.
Loral has her body brought over just as the sun is setting and the dark is creeping in, I stand in the garden looking around at everyone as all the wolves mingle eating and talking with one another, a lot of the fairies came as well. When it’s finally dark we all gather around and light the wooden tower up, we all stand in silence watching it burn as soft tears roll down my cheeks.
The only sound is the wind through the forest and the crackling of the burning wood. The night goes on as everyone grieves and pays their respects, I finally leave the burning pile once it’s dropped down less then half of what it was and I go to find Amelia sitting at a table in the patio with Bella.
I place my hand on the small child’s back as I turn to speak with Amelia.
“I’m going to check the babies and head off to bed soon, it’s been a long day and I’m just over the whole thing.” I say softly as I see her nod in response and I go to leave, Collin running up behind me taking his hand in mine as we both head off to bed. Tomorrow is a new day, hopefully it will be better then today. I pretty sure I said the same thing yesterday, each day just wears me out more and more.
