58-Ready For Tomorrow
**Saviera's POV**
The summer has come to an end and spooky season has officially started in the Laurens' household. October is the best time of year because the blazing sun cools just enough to make it not hard to breathe outside. Zuri and I have gotten huge in the last three months. Since she has the twins, she looks like she's just as far along as me. Doctor Ramirez is pleased with how smooth her pregnancy is going and she's hopeful Zuri won't end up facing any complications. With only two and a half months left in my pregnancy, I've started talking about my birth plan with Doctor Ramirez and she fully supports my decision to have a home water birth, but she did give me things to think about. The idea of something possibly going wrong with the baby or myself and not being within the hospital makes me second guess everything, but she offered another option. I can do an all-natural water birth in the hospital because they have certain rooms in the labor and delivery unit that contains a birthing pool. I won't have to be hooked up to a bunch of machines and my new midwife, Elaine, will be there to assist me alongside Doctor Ramirez.
Zuri and I are lying on the couch with our feet propped up on the ottoman, eating ice cream, and watching the babies kick. Sometimes I get nauseous with how active my Jilly-bean is. Daveed gets home from work, kisses our heads, and flops down in his recliner. He looks more and more exhausted with every day that passes. We've fallen into a routine, so every day is like the last. Zuri started school in August, so while Daveed is at work, she's doing homework and virtual classes. I do all the cooking and I refuse to allow either of them to lift a finger. I still haven't tried staying home by myself or going anywhere alone because I already know in my gut that I'm not ready.
"How was work today?" Zuri asks Daveed.
"It was long. Two students got into a fight in class, so I had to break that up before nine o'clock even came around. Who has the energy to wake up and start shit? To make matters worse, someone ate my lunch in the teacher's lounge again. You even had my name on it!" I always pack his lunches and write his name on every item in his bag plus his lunch box has his name on it too. People didn't bother with his lunches at the university, so we learned the hard way that we have to do things a little differently in the community college.
"What did you eat for lunch?" I get up from the couch and make my way to the kitchen.
"I just grabbed some snacks from the cafeteria." I'm going to work with him tomorrow and I'll be sitting in the teacher's lounge to see who keeps taking his food.
"Zuri and I are going with you tomorrow. She can use the library during her class and study and I will be in the teacher's lounge to figure out who the lard is. I won't confront them though, I promise." I get started making dinner a little early because I know he's hungry. We're having fried fish and spaghetti, garlic parmesan asparagus, and cheesy Texas Toast. It might be a weird combination, but Zuri and I are craving it and it's pretty quick to make.
"No. You two can stay home and relax or you can go out on a little date if you need out of the house or something. I don't want any drama to happen when you catch the... lard? Did you say lard?" I see him crack a small smile.
"Yes, I said lard. And there won't be any drama, I swear! I'll behave." I give my best puppy eyes and pouty lip.
"I really could use the library resources. And this gives Sav a chance to roam around independently. I know it's not technically the same because she knows we're right there, but I'm sure she could use the normalcy." Zuri came to my rescue and started rubbing his shoulders.
"Okay, You two can come." How does she do that? It's like she has a little spell over him and he's unable to tell her no. I'm not complaining because she does it for me all the time, but it's impressive.
"Thank you, Zuri. At least he likes one of us." I give a loud sigh to be dramatic. Zuri's grinning and Daveed looks at me like he's unimpressed, which is something he does often. In his defense, I say Zuri is his favorite all the time just to annoy him.
"I love you both equally. Zuri just usually has better reasonings. Mmm, her massage is a plus." She's got him wrapped around her finger.
"Yeah, yeah. Anyway! We need to go pick our dresses up as soon as you get off tomorrow. I got the call this morning from the bridal shop saying they're finished being altered. I almost forgot about that somehow." We're having the wedding on the beach in three weeks. We have everything planned to the T, so now it's just waiting on the day to get here. Daveed's siblings and my sister are setting up everything for the wedding and our parents are handling the reception and catering at a place called Oasis. They have a beautiful venue and dancefloor, but I have a feeling Zuri and I won't do a whole lot of dancing and we surely aren't wearing heels. Our feet are already swollen enough as it is.
"I can't wait! The wedding is coming so fast. Where has the time gone?" Zuri has complained about how far away the wedding is for the last few months. Now that it's right around the corner, she's basically bouncing off of the walls with excitement.
"I can't wait for the cake." I groan. The three of us went to taste different flavors at a small bakery business and we chose classic white wedding cake for the bottom two tiers, chocolate for the middle tier, and strawberry for the top with buttercream icing.
"I can't wait to make you my wives," Daveed said, making Zuri and me melt. We stop what we're doing and give him some affection.
We finish up dinner and I take their dirty dishes to wash them before we get ready to wind down. Zuri tried to come into the kitchen and help with dishes, but I told her to scram. This is my job and I take pride in doing it. Since dinner was earlier than usual, we have time to watch a little TV before we get too tired. I made banana splits for dessert and Zuri's face lit up when I handed it to her. She's been craving banana splits like crazy for the last week, so we went to the store and bought everything we needed to make it ourselves. It's better than having to leave the house every time we want one.
I end up putting mine down because I'm getting seriously uncomfortable. I've been experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions for a few days and usually, they don't hurt, but recently it has been stronger. I talked to our doctor and she said to make sure I keep track of the time between them and how long they last. Right now, they're not close together and they're usually at random still. It doesn't help that I feel drained.
"Are you okay?" Daveed is sitting between Zuri and me.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just uncomfortable and very tired." I rest my head on his shoulder and fall asleep instantly.
