75-Oh Brother
**Daveed's POV**
It has been two weeks since Ethan escaped from prison. I've been teaching my classes from my home office over Zoom, and thankfully, my students prefer it. I just finished my last lecture of the day, so I go into the kitchen for something quick to eat and realize we need to make a trip to the grocery store. Sav and Zuri are on the couch with Jilly asleep on her tummy on the giant ottoman.
"We need to go to the store. You two can stay here while I run if you don't feel like leaving." The more Sav goes out in public, the more anxious she's becoming. She constantly looks over her shoulder when we leave the house and gets jittery. I know it isn't healthy being home all the time, but she gets worse the more she leaves. At this point, we'll work with the better option of the two evils.
"I honestly don't want you to go alone," Sav says.
"I'll be fine. I have my gun on me, and I'm only grabbing a few things, so I'll be quick." Sav and Zuri will be perfectly safe here without a doubt. I already made sure all windows, and doors, were locked before I started work this morning.
"Okay, you can go, I guess. Just be alert, and don't forget to check your back seat before you even get into your car." She will never forgive herself for not checking the back seat of her car that day. We ended up selling her car because she refused to drive it.
"I love you both. I'll let you know when I make it there and keep in touch with you." I kiss their heads and grab my wallet and keys before walking out. Of course, I make sure it's locked before I leave.
I get to the store and shoot Sav a text. I constantly check my surroundings to be cautious. I quickly grab fruits and veggies for us to snack on, more ingredients for banana splits so Zuri doesn't have a meltdown, steaks, and chicken to throw on the grill tonight, and drinks. Most people hate self-checkout, but I love it because I don't have to wait in a long line, so I scan my stuff and bag it up. I walk to my car and load the groceries into the back seat. Thankfully, no one is in it.
"Daveed." I pull my gun from the holster and turn in one quick motion. Ethan is standing right in front of me with his hands up. His hood is covering his head, and he slowly backs up. There are so many cars in the parking lot, but not many people walking around.
"What is your game, Ethan? I swear I'll kill you if you even think about hurting Sav." If he makes one false move, he's a dead man.
"I would never hurt her, I swear. I came here to warn you. Rhett might have had a lot of enemies, but he also had people who loved him. His brother, Damien, is just as sick as he is. He's been watching you all. He's watching right now. Go home, Daveed. Call the police and have them search your neighborhood. There's an abandoned house that I know he uses half a mile east from your home. I would hurry." Ethan runs off, and I speed home as fast as I can. I call Sav, and there's no answer, so I call Zuri. She doesn't answer either. I'm shaking as I dial 9-1-1.
**Zuri's POV**
Sav is getting Jilly laid down as the doorbell rings a few times. I get up; praying it doesn't wake Jilly because she is so fussy.
"I'll get it, babe," I call to Sav.
"Don't answer if you don't recognize who it is," She responded.
I look through the peephole in the door to see it's just a UPS delivery man with yet another package.
"You can leave the package at the door. Thank you!" I say to through the door.
"I'll need a signature if that's not a problem, ma'am." We usually have to sign something, but I was hoping we wouldn't have to this time.
"Okay, just a minute," I respond. I tell Sav that a signature is required, so I'll just sign it real quick and shut the door. We both have our guns on us, and this isn't Ethan.
I open the door, and his smile is great big. Sav comes up to the door and looks shocked.
"Damien? I didn't know you worked for UPS." Sav signed on the line for the package, and he handed it to her.
"Oh, so you do know my name?" I get weird vibes from this guy, but he's being harmless.
"Yeah, I'm sorry for being a total bitch that day. I've done a lot of maturing since then. Zuri, this is the guy from my history class that I purposely called David." At first, I couldn't recall what she was talking about, but now I remember. He was being super pushy about 'experimenting' with us. He sounds like the typical horndog of a male.
"I should apologize too. I wasn't exactly being a gentleman that day, so I'm sorry." It looks like everyone's maturing nowadays. He's still a weird one. "I see you guys have gone mega-viral with your polyamorous family, though! That's so cool. And it explains why Professor Laurens was about to kick my ass in the classroom that day." He laughs at the memory, and Sav gives a little chuckle. "I'm sorry to ask, but do you have bottled water or something? I have no air in the delivery truck, and I'm dying of thirst."
He truly is sweating through his shirt. It isn't insanely hot outside, but the sun is beaming nice and bright. "Yeah, I'll go grab one," I walk into the kitchen. When I come back, I stop in my tracks. Damien has taken Sav's gun, and he has it pointed right at her head. He kicked the door shut.
"Go sit on the couch," He ordered, and we listen without a fight. I don't have my gun exposed to where he can see it as Sav did on her hip, so he doesn't even know I have it on me.
"Are you doing this because of that day in class?" Sav is surprisingly calm. I can tell she's thinking of a plan.
"I'm doing this for my brother," He responded.
"Who is your brother? How does he know me?" She asked.
"He's dead because of you. Our nephew killed his own uncle because of you. How do you live with that blood on your hands?" Damien is Rhett's brother. This is worse than Ethan.
"I searched Rhett's siblings, and I don't recall you being one of them," Sav stalls. He is focused on her, so I slowly reach behind me and put my hand on the gun. I hear my heart thumping in my ear and my breathing quickening. That's when Daveed busts through the front door, causing the perfect distraction for me to aim straight at his head and pull the trigger.
