Ginger Fox Part 3

“A girl... He kissed her...”
“Baby, what is Sodoma?” I interrupt her immediately, asking the question directly, catching her off guard. I don’t want to talk about Tom anymore; it’s like my brain has exploded him from my mind.
“Well, according to the story, it was the cradle of homosexuality.” She walks, stopping near the vanity and looking at herself in the large mirror. “That’s why it was destroyed.”
“No, Baby, I’m not referring to the city destroyed by God. And your information is partially wrong...” I shift my weight, feeling restless and anxious. “The two cities, Sodom and Gomorrah, had many sins worse than a person’s sexual orientation. It was buried under everything worst in human nature: greed, envy, murder, pettiness, and so on. And I’m not saying this just because you kissed me.” My fingers rise awkwardly, fidgeting. “Which also doesn’t mean it’s good, but it’s not bad either...”—I’m insecure, feeling embarrassed about the kiss. “This is a personal opinion. God wouldn’t kill so many people just because of their sexual orientation.”
Baby stretches her body, turning around calmly. A calculating look appears on her face, forming a small smile.
“Tell me you understood.”
I scratch my head. My feet are agitated, moving back and forth.
“Jesus, you’re unique, Gim!” She shakes her head, her blonde hair swaying, and an intrigued look on her face. “Why the interest in Sodoma?”
I take the golden invitation from my shorts pocket, holding it out and showing the bold word to her.
“What is Sodoma?”
She opens her smile fully, lifting her eyes from the invitation to my face. Her body settles on the vanity, leaning against it while crossing her arms.
“Tell me, Gim, if I told you about a secret meeting where powerful people gather, usually in different locations, to release everything they keep inside them—” She tilts her head to the side, letting her blonde, silky hair sway— “from judges, governors, renowned lawyers, ex-presidents, military personnel, where, for that moment during their meeting, they are just what they wish to be to satisfy the insatiable hunger within them, would you believe it?”
I nod slowly. Even though I’ve never seen or participated in such a thing, I believe it. I didn’t have friends in college, but I had good ears, and I heard about some who joined sex clubs, finding potential clients to finance their studies. But what Baby is talking about is different, something new that sharpens my curiosity.
“You don’t ask to enter Sodoma; they choose you.” She uncrosses her arms, slowly tapping her fingers on her elbow. “Just a place where meetings happen, usually at different locations, thus providing complete security for the members.”
I knew even before she spoke. I already knew the answer. What better place to gather powerful and eccentric people than an island few know about? No wonder the island is filled with mansions.
“But how... How did this come here?” I sit on the edge of Baby’s bed, looking at the envelope.
“Simple.” She uncrosses her arms, walking to the wardrobe. “Jonathan is one of the advisors. He controls the island in the palm of his hand. His decision is law, and thus he ensures the discretion of everyone who enters and exits. Nothing happens on the island without his permission.”
Mr. Roy left that invitation under the door of my room. Why did he choose me? What did I have to offer besides my inappropriate curiosity?
“Baby, why me?” I raise my gaze to her, seeing her walk with two dresses hanging on a hanger.
“That’s not the question, Gim. The correct question you need to answer is: Are you ready to find out what’s beyond? After all, you’re a free woman now, aren’t you?”
I direct my gaze at her, letting the words sink into my head faster. I am a free woman.
Had I been a fool for ten years? Yes, I had!
Had I been a cuckold? Yes, there’s no denying it.
But at this moment, I am a free woman.
“Yes...” I whisper slowly, savoring that small word. “I am a free woman.”
She throws the dresses onto the bed beside me, letting me sink into my damn curiosity, which will still be my downfall. Her hand palms my face, holding it between her fingers, smoothing my mouth with her nail.
“Great, girl! Adventure is out there, little petunia. You only live once.”
I believe many wrong decisions followed that term, and mine wouldn’t be any different, especially now.
You only live once. And I will live as many adventures as I can.
