Ginger Fox Part 2
"Are you my friend, Gim?" I raise my eyebrows, looking at her confused.
"Of course I am," I respond quickly, pressing my body against hers. My face is below her breasts, hugging her waist. "Friends are for all moments, Baby, the good and the bad."
It takes her a while to return my hug. It's strange to know that Baby and I have had so much intimacy before, yet a simple hug surprises her. Her long arms wrap around my shoulders, lowering her head a bit to rest her chin on my hair. I hug her tightly, giving her all the comfort she needs, even though I don't know what’s hurting her, but I want her to know that everything will be okay and I’ll be by her side for whatever she needs. Dad always did this with me when I was feeling down, and just by receiving his hug, I felt better. And that’s what I want Baby to feel too.
"God, you’re so short!" Baby whispers, making me laugh at her joke.
"You're the tall one," I reply between laughs, letting her rock us both slowly. "I'm here if you want to talk, or if you just need to be silent. It doesn't matter, I’ll be here either way."
"Forever, Gim?" The question, so low as it leaves her lips, is painful, making me lift my head to look at her face. Baby's face at this moment, looking lost, reminds me of Jon when I told him I’m his friend. It’s almost as if both of them feel unworthy of having someone to love and care for them.
"Forever. Even after summer ends, we can still stay in touch."
"Thank you, Gim." She kisses my hair, smiling as she pulls away. "It's all right, I really just hate not being able to sleep properly."
Her hand rises, smoothing my hair and pushing it back.
"Is that all?" She nods in confirmation. I release her from my hug, lifting my eyes to her. Even though she's smiling, her eyes tell me a different story.
"I still can't believe I missed out on a sunny Sunday with you." She abruptly changes the subject, grabbing my fingers and walking back into the room. "Has that bitch Lorane returned to the mansion?"
"I don't know. Actually, I didn't even know she was gone." I lean against the dresser, thoughtful.
Baby grabs one of the candies scattered on the bed, choosing a heart-shaped lollipop, and then opens it. She holds another one, tossing it to me, which I catch in the air, holding it in my fingers.
"A candy for your thoughts." I smile, opening the lollipop and shaking my head.
"It's nothing much, we’ll talk about it later." Baby sucks hard on the lollipop, raising her fingers in the air and shaking her head.
"You don’t just say 'we’ll talk about it later' to someone. I’ve already had a night from hell, I don’t want to end my afternoon with anxiety."
"Oh, my God, Baby! It’s nothing serious, really..." She’s standing just an arm's length away from me. Her eyes analyze me from head to toe, taking a quick glance at the open door.
"Talk, Gim. And talk now!" I suck on the lollipop as if it could give me courage. I grip the white stick of the lollipop, pulling it out of my mouth. "Don’t tell me you got back together with that loser."
"Oh, of course not!" I laugh, playing with the lollipop. "What does it mean, in the world of Sodom, to invite someone to play?" Her face turns red, her mouth opening and closing three times before taking another step in my direction.
"Who invited you to play?" Baby's expression tightens immediately, raising her hand with the lollipop held between her fingers. "Never mind, I already know who it was. What did you say to him?"
I shrug my shoulders, swaying my body slowly back and forth, like a child who knows they’ve done something wrong.
"Maybe I might have said yes at some point..." Baby shoves the lollipop in her mouth all at once, sucking on it quickly. "Baby, say something. Scream, scold me, tell me I messed up. I know this is wrong in every way. He’s my boss, he’s married, and he’s your brother... God, I’m being as dirty as Tom was with me by agreeing to this game, aren’t I?"
I exhale the breath I was holding, feeling worse with her silent reaction, which only confirms I made a foolish mistake. Baby pulls the lollipop out with a loud pop.
"First, boss and employee relationships, as far as I know, have never stopped anyone from being in a relationship. Second, Lorane and my brother's marriage is as fake as this blonde hair of mine. And lastly, please, never compare yourself to that idiot Tom."
Baby looks at me with a scowl, clearly expressing her dislike for Tom. It’s almost funny how much she despises him, as if she were beside me watching the redhead Tom was sleeping with.
"One thing you should know is that if Roy were a fairy tale character, he wouldn’t be a Disney prince, but one from the Brothers Grimm." She glances toward Jon’s door to make sure he’s in the bathroom. "Jonathan owns the game, a true Rumpelstiltskin and a dangerous opponent, and he will play with you, using every sense and feeling inside your body against you."
Baby looks at me seriously, and I feel a chill run down my spine. After all, Rumpelstiltskin is known as a cunning little demon, dealing with those who seek an agreement and have something to offer in return. If Baby used this reference to alarm me, she succeeded.
"If you think only lust can walk hand in hand with desire, pleasure, and sex, you're mistaken. Fear, gluttony, fury, lust, envy, pride, jealousy, vanity, and especially pain—every sin inside you will surface in its worst form. And in the end, your body will be so addicted to sex that you'll need rehabilitation."
"But this... This is madness, this isn't a game." I squeeze the lollipop in my fingers, feeling distressed.
How can I make this right? How can he use me against myself? So many questions, so many doubts fill me, driving me crazy between the fear of embarking on a dangerous ride and the desire to have the answers.
"No, Gim. This is Sodom." Baby takes the lollipop to her mouth, walking towards the door. She calmly bends down, picking up her sandals, and leaves the room.
"How do I look?" Jon enters the room with a shy smile, looking so handsome with his newly dyed black hair, slicked back, making me push aside my thoughts, leaving the consequences of my mistakes for later.
"You look amazing!" I walk over to him, holding his face in my hands, giving him the most beautiful smile.
