Ginger Fox Part 2
"The master key. Someone is using the master key to open the doors."
"That key was lost a long time ago. Aunt Charlote lost it and never found it again..."
"They found the key."
My body leans against the wall as my heart races. I wasn't crazy or asleep; someone entered my room last night while I was out of it. Baby was in her room, distressed, and Jonathan had left the mansion. Aunt Charlote, as much as she enjoys listening to the sounds of the mansion, might have drunk enough last night to pass out, especially after the unpleasant breakfast situation. Jon wasn't home, so I was the only fragile person at that moment. My head turns to look at my door. My key isn't there; it was removed from the lock, which is why Baby was able to use Jonathan's copies. I push myself off the wall, walking to my door. The small metal key lies on the floor, near the wall. It hadn't just fallen; it had been thrown. A chill runs up my spine, making me shiver. I feel the sweat in my hands and squeeze the key between my fingers. Fear gnaws at me, knowing I was vulnerable. Something else happened in this room that knocked me out; it wasn't the medicine or Jonathan.
What are you missing, Gim?
My brain throbs with the headache and the question that hammers away at me. What am I missing?!
