Book 1: Chapter 61
*** Solaris POV ***
I had had a rough few days that I didn’t know if I would even have a good day left in me. There wasn’t even the strength to hold up my body on my right leg, let alone put weight on my left leg. Yesterday, I felt better to walk around the house. Now, I was sitting at a local diner waiting. I ordered a coffee and was pouring the cream into it when Charles walked in.
He looked around, caught my smile and headed over. He slid into the seat across from me.
“How are you doing? Silas said you were having a time after…”
I smiled. “Better. Though, I don’t think I’ll have many more of these days.”
He smiled at me sadly. “I guess we should enjoy it then!”
His optimism made me smile even wider and I nodded. “We are waiting on one more person.”
“Another person? Is this the reason why you wanted to meet me?”
I nodded. “But I want the two of you looped in. It might take a little more explaining then I feel comfortable sharing but I think the two of you might be pretty close on the same page.”
Charles ordered a coffee and we waited for our last member of the party.
“No work today?” I noted Charles band t-shirt and jeans when he walked in.
“Not today. I traded a night shift last week with one of my buddies so I got the day off today.”
Smiling, I took a sip. “Good! I feel like you work way too much.”
Charles laughed. “I feel like that too sometimes.”
The door rang and Sam walked in. I gave him a quick wave and he came over to the table. His eyebrow rose as he noted Charles but when Charles scooted over, Sam sat next to him.
“Alright, now my interest is piqued.”
I laughed and shook my head. “Food first, then we can get into it.”
The waitress came over and took Sam’s drink order and then grabbed all our orders for food. It was fairly early in the morning, so I kept it in the breakfast range. Noah and Finn had flipped when I told them I was heading out. They only agreed if they could drop me off and pick me up. I agreed to the drop off but that I would call them if I needed to be picked up.
The food was delivered and I looked at my plain meal. My stomach stopped taking a lot of foods now. Bread was pretty much the only thing I could handle. I handed over my bacon to Sam’s plate who shook his head.
“Solaris, that’s yours.”
“I can’t eat it. So it shouldn’t go to waste.” I smiled and tore a piece off of my bread. “I’m about to do a huge information dump on you guys. So I need you to fueled and ready to take it.”
The two of them looked at each other and then back at me. “What kind of information?”
I sighed. “The kind you absolutely cannot share with anyone until the time comes and even then I need both of you to promise not to help directly but to only help indirectly.”
Charles furrowed his brow and Sam bit his lip. I smiled. These two were so cute together. Silas told me a little of what happen to Charles and it was only confirmed by the red string that was broken coming off of him. But he was human and there was no second thread. Sam on the other hand already had one broken and another connecting to a child. It pained me that Sam would need to wait nearly as long as Silas to be with his mate. Even then, his mate was ten years younger than him. I wondered if maybe some meddling wouldn’t hurt. Sam’s 2nd mate would get a new fated mate and Sam could be with someone who would be good for him.
The thought left me when Sam asked a question.
“Sorry, my mind wandered. What did you ask?”
“Is this about Alpha?”
I smiled. “Partly. But I’m not going to start there. Mostly because it all ties in together eventually. You can’t start multiplying until you can count.”
Sam nodded. His thirst for knowledge always made me smile. He reminded me of my Gamma. I loved Sam’s questions and when I was able to give him whole and complete answers. Pulling up my phone, I texted Silas.
** ‘I might do some meddling with the fates.’**
Once I sent it, I set my phone down and turned it on silent.
“So how do we start?” Charles asked and I smiled.
Taking a deep breath, I looked past the two of them. “Charles, how familiar are you with Omegas?”
Sam froze for a second and looked at Charles. Charles closed his eyes for a moment and crossed his arms.
“I am aware there are four main genes of wolves, as well as hodgepodge of just garden variety wolves.” I laughed at his analogy but let him continue. “You have Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Omega. Everyone else that doesn’t fall into that ends up being just normal.”
I nodded and took a bit of my toast. “Do you know what makes Omega’s special?”
Charles turned slightly red as he shifted uncomfortable in his seat. “From what Silas has told me both female…and male…Omegas can have children. Is that correct?”
Sam chimed in. “It’s not exclusive but yes, you’re right. At the base of it all, all omegas, no matter born gender, can have children. However, that ability is not exclusive to those born omegas.”
Charles cocked his head at Sam. “How so?”
This time I answered. “Because male wolves can develop the ability to have children based on their mate.”
Charles’ eyes widened. “Wh…what?”
“So for instance, Noah and Finn. Both are Beta and strong Betas at that. However, the weaker of the two didn’t turn into an Omega because his genes were too strong. Instead, his body adjusted to accommodate his mate. Thus allowing him to bare children.”
Charles shifted uncomfortably again. “That’s…”
I laughed. “It’s uncomfortable for a human, I know. But it’s fairly common for us.”
Sam cleared his throat. “Then there is someone like me. Who was, as you said, was your garden variety wolf, but…due to my fated mate…my body changed to that of an Omega.”
I reached out and squeezed Sam’s hand. “It is also common and something that you should be really proud of. You get to be the one to carry your pups. It’s a completely different type of strength to do so.”
Sam flashed me a smile but he still had his eyes cast down. Charles put his hand on Sam’s shoulder and squeezed it.
“No one would think any less of you, Sam.”
My heart fluttered and I made up my mind. I was definitely going to screw with fate with these two. They fucking fit too well for me not to. Charles deserved someone who would love him and he felt like wouldn’t break, someone he could take care of. Sam deserved someone strong and who could help him be better.
I pulled up my phone and Silas had texted me.
**‘I’ll tell you the same thing as I did when we were kids. If you’re willing to take responsibility for it, then do as you wish.’**
I replied.
**‘Even if it’s your friends?’**
There was an immediate reply.
** ‘I trust you completely, A. Then and now.’**
I broke out in a smile and put my phone back down. At some point, I would figure out the right timing today. It may put me out of commission for a few more days but fuck was it worth it.
“Alright. So we have established the base knowledge, correct?” Sam chimed in and I nodded.
“Now, I’m actually going to speak specifically to what happens to a body that was not born an Omega, how it adjusts.”
Both of them turned bright red. “Sol…I don’t think…” Charles stammered.
“Yeah…I’m not sure if that’s…” Sam glanced at Charles.
I laughed. Goddess, they were cute. “I’m not doing this for you Sam, actually. Though if you don’t know, it will be informational for you.”
“Alright…if you say so…” Sam quieted down but Charles did not.
“Honestly, Sol, I don’t…I don’t know if I want or need to hear this.”
Chuckling, I rolled my eyes. “You do, and I need you to understand for multiple reasons. So just sit tight and take it in. I know you were probably the jock in Sex-Ed class who buried his head in his jacket but this is important.”
Charles looked away and Sam laughed. “Nail on the head.”
I ignored them. “So, no bodily changes will happen before the two are mated. That goes for any non-born Omega.”
“Wait…really?” Sam looked at me.
I nodded. “If you had went out and had some fun with manly wolves, you wouldn’t get pregnant. Mostly because, as much as your disposition maybe have started to adjust, your body has not. A big part of that is because you haven’t met your mate. That change comes when you guys are officially mated.”
“Officially mated?” Charles asked as he shoved some of his hash browns in his mouth.
Sam answered. “Basically, mates meet each other. Usually, they take time to get used to each other but the longer they are in proximity to one another, their bond grows stronger. They will want to mate. That involves the two mates marking their territory.”
“A bite to the neck in the throws of passion.” I added and Sam blushed.
Sam continued. “Once that happens, it takes around month for the first heat to kick in. A heat is when basically…” He stopped though, unable to continue and I smiled.
“When you get so horny that you literally can’t stop fucking for a week. The designated ‘Omega’ of the relationship emites hormones which will ignite both parties. It’s pretty much the ‘Omega’ body’s way of saying I’m ready to have a family. That’s actually all wolves who are mated go through a heat but the changes will have been completed in a changed Omega. Pretty primal and animalistic but we are wolves after all.”
The two of them looked like they wanted to die in their seats. I took a bite of toast. Charles leaned in.
“How are you so comfortable speaking about this at full volume in a diner?”
I laughed. “No one is paying attention to us. And if they are, they would be as red as you two are and humans are somehow naturally shy about such things. They would feel awkward and move away as soon as possible. Frankly, the only reason you’re still there is because Sam is blocking you in.”
He laughed but there was such an edge in it that even Sam laughed.
“Now, I’m going to tell you where the differences split off.”
