Book 1: Chapter 85

*** Sila’s POV ***

My eyebrow rose as I watched Sam try to sneak back into the house at six in the morning. Clearing my throat, Sam froze and his eyes fell to mine. He was wearing yesterdays pants but a different shirt. I motioned him over and his shoulders fell. Walking forward, I got a good look at him.

“So, you want to tell me why my Gamma is doing a walk of shame in the morning? In another man’s shirt no less?”

It was hard to keep a serious face as he turned bright red.

“Alpha, I can explain.”

“Can you? I thought you two were just going to have a dinner date.”

He started to shake. “I…we…I mean…we did. We ate and it was really nice. Then he brought me back to his apartment and we…well…”

“Finally got around to having sex?”

He was clutching the front of the shirt as he nodded.

“That was quick. Didn’t realize you were planning on jumping in that quick.”

Sam shook his head. “I…well…not at first. But it just…ended in his bed…”

I quirked up an eyebrow at up at him his face got redder. He nervously shifted from side to side. Narrowing my eyes, I inhaled sharply.

“Samuel Guess, you did not.”

He froze and his eyes slowly looked up at me. “Did what?” His voice squeaked.

“For fucks sake Sam!” I rubbed my forehead and then my eyes, pinching the bridge of my nose.

“Alpha, I…we…”

I growled. “I told you to get to know him. Get the plan for the future in order and how you two were going to be together. Not fucking mate within the first week! You realize…for goddess sake, Sam…how could you be so stupid?”

“I…I told him what happens. I was very straight with him of what was going to happen moving forward. He…he knows…about…just about everything.”

I groaned. “Samuel Guess, I have genuinely never been so disappointed as I am right now.” My eyes narrowed. “Did you sneak out of his place while he was sleeping?”

His face was ashen and he nodded.

I growled again. “Sam, I want nothing more to slap you so hard right now. Go upstairs, shower, and get dressed. Meet me back down here. I can’t believe your stupidity.”

He jumped and turned, running down the hall and the door slammed shut. I pinched the bridge of my nose. Meredith walked into the kitchen, chuckling.

“Kids these days.” She said and I groaned.

“I have…Goddess, I have to step up a pack induction within the next three days. Sam needs to get his doctors appointments in order. Fuck, I need to call Charles.”

She laughed as I pulled out my phone and dialed Charles’ number.

“Hey, Silas, I was just about to call you?” Charles sounded a little manic.

“You’re fucking mate is here.”

He sighed. “Look, Silas…”

“I don’t want to hear it, Charles. Sam is in enough trouble as it is.”

“It was me, I initiated it. Including the bite. He didn’t…”

I growled. “He did. He knew better. You need to submit four days off. I need you to pack enough clothes for a few days and come up to the pack house to stay?”

“Why?”

It took everything in me not to yell over the phone. “Because what Sam failed to tell you is that when a human mates a werewolf, their body changes.”

“No, he told me that.”

“Alright, cool. Did he also tell you that the process can take three days and it puts you through excruciating growing pains in the mean time?”

He cleared his throat nervously. “No…he didn’t.”

“I didn’t think so. Take off work and get your ass over here. If you mated last night, we might not have much time before it starts.”

“Alright.”

“Text when you leave. If you feel even a little bit of pain on the drive pull the fuck over and call me. Got it?”

“Yeah. Thanks Silas.”

I shook my head. “Both of you are fucking stupid. There are processes for this. Plans that need to be put in place for both of your safety. You just blew that shit out of the water.” Hanging up, I slammed my phone down on the counter.

“Alpha, they are just kids.” Meredith handed me some bacon and eggs.

“One is a werewolf, who should know better. And the other is as old as I am and he should know better. Goddess above.”

As I was eating, I heard the shower go on and I closed my eyes. Once I finished with my food, I looked at the time. Ten minutes had gone by. I tapped my phone. Meredith was also staying in the kitchen. She laughed earlier but she knew how serious this could be. I wouldn’t be able to relax until Charles was under my roof.

Twenty minutes passed and my phone rang. I picked up up immediately.

“I…I pulled over. I’m getting twinges in my back. Am I okay to continue? It’s not bad, I can ignore it.”

“No! Stay where you are. Turn off the car and take the keys out. Scoot the chair all the way back and lay it down flat.”

“Silas, you’re kinda freaking me out.”

I was already grabbing my keys. “Mer, make sure when Sam comes out, that he sits his ass in one of those chairs and he doesn’t move.”

She nodded and I rushed out of the house, jumping into my truck.

Charles’ voice came over the phone. “Silas?”

“I’m here. I’m headed to you. Leave the phone up, okay?”

“Seriously, you’re freaking me the fuck out.”

I sighed and peeled down the road. “Because you don’t know how serious this is. If you’re not taken care of correctly, there can be permanent damage.”

Charles chuckled nervously. “I don’t know if I…” He coughed and I heard him curse. “…I don’t know if I like the sound of this.”

I laughed hollowly. “Maybe don’t go around biting people. What if you got rabies?”

He chuckled but inhaled sharply. “Why is it getting bad so fast?”

“I’ll add it to my list of things to ask the Moon Goddess if I ever meet her.”

My eyes were on a swivel as I looked down the road. I knew he hadn’t hit our territory yet but he usually came in from the east side because it was a shorter distance from his penthouse. As I crossed the line, I saw his car about two miles down.

“I see you.”

“Great. Cause honestly, this really fucking hurts.” He said through gritted teeth.

I sighed. “It’s pretty much a smaller version of a werewolf shift.”

“Is it this painful for you guys?”

Swallowing, I flipped a u-turn right next to his car. “It’s worse. But you aren’t in the worst of it.”

“Well fuck me.”

I laughed. “Fucking is what got you into this mess, asshole.”

He chuckled as well and I hung up on him. Getting out, I ran around the front of the Audi and tore open his door. Charles had done exactly what I asked but he was curled up in a fetal position on his chair.

“Hey Silas.” His voice croaked.

“Hey buddy. Come on. Let’s get you home.”

He nodded and slightly uncurled. Leaning in, I snaked my arms under his knees and around his shoulder. Picking up, he grimaced.

“I can’t remember the last time you carried me.”

“I can. It was when I picked your ass up off the floor of the frat party in college. You were so wasted you started stroking the carpet like it was animal saying ‘nice kitty’.”

Charles chuckled. “That’s why I don’t remember.”

I opened up the back passenger door and pulled a yellow cord on the side of the seat. The space between the back seat and the front disappeared as it filled with an inflatable flat mattress. Gently, I placed Charles lying down in the back. He wouldn’t roll off the seat now as it became one long space.

“Well, that’s convenient.”

“Necessity is the mother of invention. I’m going to strap you down. It’s for two reasons.”

I dug in the seat and pulled out three straps. They were separate from the seat belts and ran under the seats. I strapped his legs, his shoulders and his hips in place. He squirmed a little but I tried not to tighten them too tight.

“I can’t tell if you are trying to do something kinky to me or not.”

I shook my head. “Sorry to disappoint. You have a mate now. You’re off the market.”

I closed the back door and ran around to the drivers door. Jumping in, I didn’t even wait to close my door as I threw it into drive and stepped on the gas.

“What’s the two reasons?”

Charles was a talker through pain. He was always that way. He broke his arm one time and he talked nonstop the entire ride to the hospital and then some.

“One is to make sure you don’t roll around back there. The second is in case it gets worse. It will stop you from doing more damage to yourself.”

“Well, that’s thoughtful.”

I passed into the territory and immediately mind linked Shep.

*‘Shep, I’ve got an incoming human transformation to the pack house.’*

*‘Don’t forget to tell him it’s a leadership change. Those tend to be…’* Eros added.

I sighed. *‘He’s our Gamma’s mate.’*

*‘Well fuck. I’ll grab my stuff and head over. Did anyone explain…’*

I laughed hollowly. *‘Don’t get me started. After this is all over, I’m going to kick both their asses.’*

*‘Do I need to check Sam too? For the Omega change?’*

I let my shoulder fall. *‘You might as well. Fuck this is going tits up.’*

*‘Indeed. I’ll be there as fast as I can.’*

*‘Thanks doc.’*

As soon as I let go of the mind link, Charles screamed. It was ear piercing and I turned back to look at him. He was still locked in but left his shoulder had dislocated and jutted up. Reaching over, I opened up my glove box and rummaged through it. There were a few packets of gauze and I tore them open. Putting them together and folding them, I turned back.

“Bite this so you don’t bite your tongue off.”

Charles nodded, biting it out of my hand. Tears were streaming down the sides of his face. My heart broke and brushed his hair away that was stuck to his sweat covered forehead.

“Don’t worry. You’ll get through this. I’ll be with you the entire time.”

He nodded and closed his eyes. Turning back, I had veered a little off the road but luckily no one really uses this way this early. I was nearing a hundred miles an hour down the roads. I slowed down and slammed on my breaks, drifting into the front lawn of the pack house. Throwing it into park, I pulled out the keys and just threw them on the seat.

Kicking my door open, I yelled at the pack house. “Mer! Open all the fucking doors! Now!” My voice had an edge of panic in them.

Immediately, Meredith opened the doors wide and I could hear her ordering Sam to stay seated. Charles screamed again, but it was muffled by the gauze as I tore the door right off my truck. He was writhing as his other shoulder had popped out of the socket. Cursing, I leaned over him as I undid all straps. He stared to move but I placed my hand on his chest.

“I know it’s hard. I know it hurts, but try not to move, alright?”

Avoiding his shoulders, I snaked an arm under his shoulder blades and pulled him out slowly into my arms. Once he was fully in my arms, his head fell against my chest and I carried him into the pack house.

“Alpha…what…wait…Charles? Alpha, what’s going on?” Sam bawled from the kitchen but Meredith held him back from getting up.

“The result of your stupidity, Sam. Keep him there Meredith until I come out.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

Sam screamed at me. “Alpha! What’s going on?”

I ignored him as I walked down the right hall. Meredith had opened the door to one of the guest rooms. When I walked in, I slammed the door shut with my foot. Placing Charles gently on the bed, he started to curl up into a ball. I placed my hands on his legs, holding them straight.

“I’m sorry. I can’t let you curl up. Not until doc gets here.”

It broke me, watching him cry. His mouth opened wide and the gauze fell out, he screamed at the top of his lungs. Quickly, I placed the side of my hand in his mouth. He bit down hard and immediately started to draw blood. It didn’t matter though. It was the least I could do for him. Tears streamed out the side of his eyes and they were bloodshot. My strength was failing me but if I didn’t hold him, he could really hurt himself. It could very easily end his career as a police officer. I would have been able to help him a little more had he already been initiated into the pack but he was just going to have to do this the old fashioned way.

Shep opened the door, his hair an absolute mess but he threw his bag open on the side of the bed.

“How long?”

“It started about forty minutes or so ago.”

He cursed. “This isn’t going to be pretty. The meds don’t kick in for a hour.”

I nodded. “I know. Let’s just get this started.”

Shep dug around in his bag for a line attached to a bag of pain killers. He peeled open a needle and attached it to the end of the line. Taking Charles’ arm, he quickly put it in his already raised veins. Charles screamed again and I heard a pop in his back. Wincing, I held him as still as I could while Shep worked. He tapped the bag and the liquid started going down the line. Attaching it to the headboard, he sighed.

“Now we wait.”

“Go check out Sam. Don’t tell him shit. Just do his exam.”

He nodded. “Yes Alpha.”

Leaving the two of us alone, I settled in for long hour with Charles.
