Book 1: Chapter 93
My sword swiftly beheaded a Hunter before plunging into heart of the one next to him. One of my swords had broken and been lost a long time ago. Looking around, it was still raining. It hadn’t even let up once. Bodies littered the ground. We had made headway, pushing the Hunters back and now we just piled them up one after another. My breath showed in the storm and it had dropped even colder from when we started a couple hours ago.
Another Hunter attacked me but I nimbly turned, easily using my strength to remove his upper half from the lower half. His body fell in two as his blood sprayed all over me. My eyes still glowed, I still held onto the power as it was the only thing holding me up. The moment I let go was the moment I would leave this world. The magic in my arms, legs, and eye were even crackling under my power.
I was able to see every Hunter and their aura within the area. The rain wouldn’t help my real eye but it didn’t hinder my magic one. Most of my boys had stayed in formation, but I could see a few of the light blue uniforms piled with the Hunters dead bodies. They would need to be given a warriors death. Every one of them fought valiantly but it would be up to Keri and the leaders of the Groups to get that taken care of. This section of the forest that I had taken over only had one one or two Hunters left. Turning to head east and help out one of the other parts, I stopped for a moment.
“Alpha!”
Turning to my right, I saw Keri running towards me. I’d sent her off to go help the groups further to the west of us since it seemed like there was an influx there as well. She had cuts all over her body and blood pouring from a wound on her head but I had seen her take worse. Skidding to a halt, her eyes were wide.
“Alpha! The Hunters…some of them…took off…West…” She was breathing heavy.
I put my hand on her shoulder, trying to calm her so I could understand. “What?”
She took a huge gulp of air.“Alpha. They knew about Finn and Noah or at least about the bar. The Alpha, Beta, Gamma and that fucking human headed that way to help. But…Alpha…they were at least twenty and more heading that way.”
My heart dropped and I felt my power flair up in anger. Taking a breath through my nose, I looked down at Keri.
“Thank you, Beta.” I smiled at her. “May you find true happiness in this life.”
Her eyes filled with tears but she nodded to me. “May you find true happiness in the next.”
I took off, leaving her as I raced through the forest. My foot falls thundered in the rain as each one cracked the earth. It only took minutes for me to burst out of the forest. The road before me stretched out but my eyes were focused my home. The bar we had built together for the two loves of my life. It was being threatened and I was going to fucking protect it.
There were definitely more than twenty Hunters. They filled the parking lot and I could see Noah, Silas, Nate, and Sam holding the front line desperately. All of them looked worse for the ware. Behind them, Finn and Charles were standing near the door. Charles had his gun up and Finn was holding his broadsword. The rain had soaked them all but Finn’s shirt clung to his baby bump.
I was livid. Livid that they would threaten my mates, our child. I unleashed the entirety of the power I had left and felt it envelope me. Walking across the road, ever step cracked the pavement and it exploded around my feet. The pieces hung in the air, suspended around me as the rain turned into a hurricane around me. The sound of it caught the Hunters off guard and they turned to face me. As soon as I reached the entrance to the parking lot, I disappeared only to reappear within their ranks. My sword sliced through three of them, their bodies hitting the ground with a wet thud. My metal arm burst with blue magic and I managed to smash two of the Hunter’s heads; exploding them.
“You will not hurt them!” I roared and as I beheaded two more of them, my leg came up and I smashed it into the ground. The ground rippled like an earthquake, making the Hunters shift and say off balance. Using their distraction, I swiftly killed five more within moments. They all started to attack me but they fell. Not one by one because that was far too inefficient. It was by three or four at a time. They would know the power I held, just how much they fucked up. How the Hunters seemed to underestimate me and my family.
My chest was heaving but the rain was finally letting up ever so slightly. Around me, thirty or so Hunter’s bodies surrounded me. Not a single one was left whole. Straightening out of my attack stance, I dropped the sword in my hand. My head lifted up, my breath coming out in huffs that you could see wisp in the air. The rain somehow felt better on my face, slowing my breaths.
Bringing my head back down, I looked at my family. They had held their positions, even taking out some of the Hunters who decided to focus them and not me. All of then stared at me in different states of shock and awe. That was until I felt the power start to dissipate. My golden eyes dimmed back down to their brown color. Finn was the first one who moved. He ran forward into the rain and grabbed me as I started to fall. We collapsed together but he managed to keep my head in his lap. His hand wiped their hair out of my face and most-likely all the blood caked on it.
“Sol…Sol…shhh…you’re okay. You’re okay.” He sang to me as he brushed my face.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Finn. I had to…I had to…” My voice cracked and I coughed.
He shook his head. “I know, sweetheart. I know. I know why you did it. It’s okay. You’ll be able to apologize over and over again when we clean up.”
I smiled and shook my head. “This is it. This is it for me.”
“No! Sol no!” He cried and leaned over me further. “You can’t leave me…can’t leave us.”
Lifting up my metal hand, since I couldn’t find the strength to raise my real one, I placed it on his bump. “Take good care of her, Finn. Love her for me. Love her so she knows I loved her from the moment I saw her little blue glow.”
Finn choked out a sob and I turned my head as I saw Noah fall to his knees next to him. He reached out and grabbed my shoulder.
“I love you two so much. I’m so sorry.” Moving my arm away from Finn, the magic sputtered and faded. The metal pieces clattered to the ground as the one thing holding it together failed. I could no longer see the blue glow inside Finn and a tears slipped out of my eye.
Noah sobbed. “I’m sorry, Sol. I’m sorry I pushed you away. I’ve never regretted something so much in my entire life. I’m sorry. I forgive you. I am so fucking sorry.”
My mouth started to fill with blood and I swallowed it back. “I know, Noah. Take care of Finn and our pup. Protect them with everything you have.”
He nodded and brushed my cheek. “I promise, Solaris. I love you.”
Finn wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me up more in his lap. “I love you, Sol.”
Taking a deep breath, I looked over to see Silas and Nate standing off to the side. Tears streaming down their faces.
“Sil…Nate…” I wet my lips but all I could taste was blood.
They came forward, both dropping to their knees. I smiled at them. “I love you too. I’m glad…I’m glad I got this time to see how you two have grown. Even without my help.”
“Fuck A, don’t do this to us.” Nate whimpered, taking my hand and holding it tight.
“It was meant to be…trust me.” I looked up at Silas. “Take care of him, Sil. Take care of yourself. I love you both and all I ever wanted was to protect the both of you. You have to remember that.”
He nodded. “I know, little sis. I know.”
“Good.” I smiled and chuckled. Reaching up, I grasped my red thread and with a deep breath, I broke the connection.
Nate screamed as he clutched his chest. I ripped the thread from my own chest but I was already so numb, already fading, that I couldn’t feel it. In my hand, my thread hung lip, slightly blowing in an invisible wind. Slowly, I placed the thread on the now shinning golden braid. The beautiful gold sparking and igniting but it took in my red thread, weaving it into its braid. It exploded in a burst of red and gold colors, looking stronger.
“It was always meant to be.” I said quietly. “Find happiness. Love each other.”
A final breath and the true darkness consumed me for the last time.
