Grace with the other rich bully laughed and at the same time scorned Emily. Her fingers trembled as she dared not to look them in the eyes.
As usual, Taylor smiled, turned to the mocking audience and sneered.
“I am sorry but I did not bring my maid to school. This Emily, my sister. ”
The whole school ground gasped at the sudden news. The Wilson's had two daughters?
The same questions ran through their brains at the same time. They were all left in confusion.
The Wilson's had only one certified daughter which obviously was known as Taylor, furthermore, hearing from Taylor herself, they were left in great awe.
“Sister? You must be bluffing, right?” She laughed out loud and stylishly covered her mouth from bursting into a huge laughter.
“Do I look like I am bluffing?”
Throwing the question back to her, she frowned. Gone were the days that she would let Emily be bullied ever again, and this time, it was going to be the opposite.
Grace felt the annoyed sentence and tune in her friend's voice. She coughed out awkwardly and cleared the passage for her.
“Taylor, let go of me. I am not meant to be here ”
Emily spoke out after being snapped out of her endless daze. Her eyes shone bright. What was happening could not just be a dream or joke? She quizzed herself.
“Sister Emily? What is the matter? Don't you like the new uniform?”
The sudden tough and strict attitude faded away slowly and was replaced by her usual bubbling attitude. She adjusted her tie in the mirror and washed her face.
“hmm.....I like it. It is quite comfy unlike my old one, ``she confessed. This was more lovely than her old raggy uniform.
So this was how life is when rich? She mentally interrogated herself and made an oath to work harder and witness a new rich life by all means.
Time flew fast and it did not take more than the expected time for the bell to be rung. Students dispersed from their various classes ending up at the exit while some in the detention hall for their rude behaviors.
As expected, the driver had come to pick them up and drop them off at home.
In the Wilson's Mansion.
The car slowly parked in the huge parking lot of the garage as they came down with their school bags hung on their shoulders.
Taylor took her school bag and walked into the house along with Emily. The two girls froze at a spot when their father was spotted sitting on the sofa with an outraged appearance.
“Where did you come from?!”
He did not even bother to ask how she was doing, not like he even cared yet, on walking home, she was bombarded with several questions.
“We came from school ”
Taylor responded to her, gripped her fingers and patted it. They were in this together and not would stop them.
“Go to your room, Taylor, let me talk with Emily ”
His stern voice softened when he talked with his daughter and in an instant second, turned back to the right emotion when she left the room.
Emily stood frozen in the living room like an iceberg about to be broken to parts. The room's atmosphere felt chilly, tense and most of all dangerous.
Her teary eyes fixed on her dad, she patiently stood for the insult and beating about to come her way.
“Tell me who gave you the audacity to introduce yourself as my daughter?! Tell Me Emily! Are you not satisfied with what I have done for you in the past?”
“I simply asked you not to ever cross paths with Taylor, yet you defiled my orders! You had the guts to show up in front of the school in my luxurious car?”
He rained down his anger on her head with each single letter piercing her heart like little needles. His words exposed all his utmost hatred for her.
Emily stood upright and received the insults as they came in with her tears little by little trickling down her cheeks.
“But ........father?!”
When she couldn't take it anymore, she burst out into rage. Her fist was balled and her teeth gritted in her mouth.
The pain from hearing those words from the person who was meant to show love, defend and promote love in the family disregarded her like she was nothing but a mistake!
“Why?......Why can't I wear fine clothes like Taylor? Why must I take the subway to school while she takes a car?”
Emily burst into anger while balling her fist. She stood in front of him and let out her thoughts.
After today, she felt this whole family drama must stop. She has to take her rightful place, as his daughter! And not a maid!
He got up from the chair angrily, slammed the newspaper he was holding on the coffee table and pointed at her.
“What a terrible attitude you have! Who do you think you are?!”
His unexpected outburst on her made little tears fall furiously on her face. She wiped them off with her fingers and continued.
“I have no attitude! Tell me, just tell me! Why do you hate my mother and I? What exactly is the cause for your hatred?!”
His gaze became wild and dangerous as he glared at her. This child was definitely bound to release his family problems out to the whole world.
On coming back home, the news exposed in school got him worried as he had that to deal with and now, the girl is fighting for an equal right?
What is just going on today? Must today be a terrible day?
“I hate you! I hate everything about you and your mother! You two are all liars! You want equality right? Have you forgotten you are illegitimate?! What a disgrace to call an illegitimate child yours!”
She had listened carefully to his statement and tried to find any fault with it. Illegitimate child? Was she really illegitimate like he said?
“Dad, If I am a disgrace then why keep me here? Let me go simple! I have watched you beat, scare and insult my mother for many years. If you do not have us to soil your name, then you might as well let us go!”
His gaze focused on the little girl who just spoke up.
“You!” He raised his hands ready to put a slap across her face. Gu Abigail ran quickly and held his hands from slapping her.
“Let go of me! Abigail! This child has no degree of shame and selfishness. If I don't deal with her today, I might not rest in peace ”
She finally let go of his hands and ran to the child who showed no fear. She took a look around her to make sure she was fine and sighed in relief.
“Look at the maniac you brought up as a child. Just see how rude and arrogant she is! Talking back at me? I must teach that girl a lesson ”
He barked out loud.
“Harper! ”
She yelled his name angrily, took Emily in her arms, carried into their room and locked the door.
“That girl! Damn, such a menace!”
He laid back on the sofa and gulped the whole orange juice down in his throat. He raised his head up and looked at the opening of the front door.
His second wife, Ma Peyton, walked into the house after eavesdropping on their conversation. She sat on the chair and poured him some orange juice in the cup.
“You are back? That was quick ”
His calm and bright self came back in no time.
“Harper, what exactly are you still doing with those people? If you keep them, the news might spread and be revealed that she is actually your biological daughter. You don't want your company to go bankrupt , right?”
She sweetened her words to a tasty dessert ready to be eaten. Peyton had always suggested that keeping this child would only make him be at doom, besides, the lies were all out and no one would believe them even if they tried to prove themselves.
“What are you saying?”
Confused by her words, he asked. Was it not part of the agreement they made as vows? He was allowed to keep Abigail and her daughter and still allowed to marry Peyton.
Although, being with Abigail could not save his company but that was his first life and getting rid of her for money would never be right.
“My parents had no idea that you were married before and even had a child. Exposing you now would not be good, huh?”
Peyton's devilish tune resurfaced back. There was one thing she was good at, making threats. Having an illegitimate child treated better than hers would not be fair, would it?
“Tell you what, you can take them to some place far away from here and if you still feel guilty of throwing them out, I won't care if you pay some fees to them .”
She added.
“I will think about that .”
He mumbled under his breath while looking away. That was the possible solution for now. If her father should get to know that he had been cheated, then he would perhaps be six feet the next day.
Peyton smiled at him and made her way to the staircase. Before climbing up the first step, she took a look at Harper, scoffed and frowned.
“If you don't get rid of her, then I will ! ”
“Mom, why are we still leaving here?”
Emily demanded for her answer. She watched as her mother applied some ointment on her legs.
“Emily, when you are all grown up, you will understand. For now, do not argue with your father anymore .”
Wei covered the bottle of ointment, stood up and covered it. She reached for the top shelf and kept it there.
“Then make me understand, mom. This is not fair. You have been mistreated badly over the years. I have watched you get beaten up yet you don't complain. Father does not treat you good anymore that is if he even did before. ”
Abigail squatted on her knees and held Emily's arms. She planted a kiss on her cheeks and rubbed her shoulders.
“Emily always has this in mind, Life is not fair and not until you work for yourself, people will always trample on you. ”
