Making Diversions
*Chapter 41*
"Is this all the information you gathered? You did not miss any details?" I said to my watchers after they bestowed me a scroll tube.
They came back before the deadline I set. It was already expected that they would finish it early but I needed to be certain that they really gathered all the information.
One of them nodded. "Yes, my siren. We did the best of our abilities to gather the information that will interest you."
"Excellent." I returned inside and glanced at Frederick who was in my bed, watching me before I averted my gaze away from him. I took the cheque book with me from the bedside table before I went to the balcony again. I wrote the amount there and bestowed each of them with the written cheque. "One hundred thousand to each of you."
Their jaws dropped before they nodded. "T-Thank you, my siren," they said in unison before they left with a big smile on their faces.
I went to my table to check the contents of the scroll tube. Then I huffed as my upper lip lifted in amusement.
"Reginald... You are really a bastard," I said, smirking.
"It seems like good news, my goddess."
I looked and darted my eyes at Frederick. I walked in his direction as I nodded. "Indeed, darling." I sat on the edge of the bed and showed him the documents. "See it for yourself."
He furrowed his eyebrows when he started reading them. I was expecting that he didn't have any education for reading but his eyes widened as he gasped. "H-He's committing treason?"
I nodded. "It seems like that."
"My bro—Alpha King Azarius must know this, my goddess. Treason is a crime."
"Sshh... Calm down, darling. We cannot just go to His Majesty yet."
"But with this evidence, you can be able to divorce your marriage with him. It is an excuse that you can use."
"Hmm..." I hummed, stroking my chin.
What Frederick said was right. Reginald was committing treason against the royal lycan family. I could use this as an excuse to divorce my marriage.
I flinched when Frederick took my hand. "This is much better than using drastic difficult methods, my goddess," he said softly.
If you think about it, Frederick has a point. All of the plans I concocted involved laborious movements. It was tiresome yet I knew the fruit of the hard work would be worth it once it was implemented correctly.
"My goddess?"
I glanced at Frederick when his hand on mine tightened his hold. I cleared my throat when I felt delicious sensations crawling through my whole body which I ignored. "I need to make some diversions then," I said as I stood up and was about to walk away but he didn't let go of my hand. I sighed and glared at Frederick. "Darling, I still need to do something."
He frowned and lowered his head in disappointment. "A-Alright..." he uttered in a dejected tone.
I patted his head before I turned around. But my heart sank when I heard Frederick groaning in pain. I immediately turned my head at him and saw him massaging his neck.
I dropped the scrolls I have in my hands and rushed to my darling. "Are you alright, darling?" I asked, worried. He didn't say anything and continued caressing his neck. His face was already contorted like he was in deep pain. "Where does it hurt? Tell me," I said, wanting to panic because I already thought that his throat was already healed since he already finished taking the antidote yesterday.
I caressed his neck and drew closer. But as soon as I did that, I caught his lips drawing into a small smile. Then I realized what was happening.
"Bastard..." I said through gritted teeth and hit him in his arm when Frederick chuckled.
He didn't let go of my hand that was on his neck. "You really cared for me, my goddess," he teased and smiled sheepishly. "I saw how you panicked," he said in a sing-song voice.
I felt my cheeks getting hot for some reason because of the action I did earlier and he kept teasing me. "Can you not?!" I said defensively and annoyingly. I smacked his head when he chuckled again.
"Uh-huh... My goddess, just admit it."
I hit his arm when I clenched my hands in annoyance. I could have sworn my face was like a red tomato because of embarrassment. Frederick was just playing with me. I thought that something happened to him and now, he dared to tease me like this and caught me off guard!
"Screw you!" I huffed and immediately distanced myself from him. Then I glared at him.
Frederick grinned and winked at me. "You are really beautiful when you are flustering. It is my first time seeing you like that, my goddess," he teased again. "Looks like I know now how to see your face in crimson red."
I hissed and growled at him. "You seemed so full of yourself for daring to tease me, Frederick. Do remember your position here."
He raised his hands as a sign of surrendering. "I would love it if my goddess would punish me."
I squinted my eyes before I shook my head. "I shall bestow you more than those lashes Reginald bestowed you to wipe that annoying smile of yours," I threatened as I still felt my cheeks getting hot.
Damn it... I didn't expect him to catch me off guard...
"I would love to receive them if my goddess is the one who will punish me. I am certain that I will make my goddess worry more if I pass out, right?"
Fuck this man... I swore I was close to strangling him. That annoying grin on his lips was making me more furious than before.
"Brat..." I uttered before I decided to pick the scrolls and went to the other chamber where my paintings were located so I could separate myself from him. But before I could close the door, I threatened him again. "One more word from you and I swear I will remove you from your knight position and discard you."
With my words, I didn't hear anything from him anymore. I sighed in relief and closed the door before I kept on tapping my cheeks.
What is wrong with you, Novalie?! You? Getting ashamed?!
"That troublesome brute..." I murmured, gritting my teeth as I headed to my desk to make some diversions after contemplating and calming myself.
I thought about what Frederick said. This would be easy to say that I could use treason to divorce my marriage. However, would my father be convinced about it?
In order to convince him, I must establish my relationship with him. I must do what it takes that Father must side with me, not on Reginald, in order to make an easy process of divorcing my marriage once I show the evidence.
"Hmm... That would be rather difficult for me..." I told myself after I made considerations about Frederick's suggestion.
I went out of the painting room and saw Frederick who was sleeping soundly. Until now, he was still in a bedridden condition but he was able to get out of my bed.
I approached him and laid a kiss on his forehead. "Sleep well, darling," I whispered.
I knew I shouldn't do this because he was being a bratty man again and dared to tease me but I couldn't help myself getting soft at him. My wolf was urging me to do it sometimes which was why it was annoying to fight with her.
I went outside to settle some of the Alpha duties Reginald left because he was still unconscious. I had no intention to know when he would wake up and no plans to visit him.
He could die in a vegetative state if he wanted to. I couldn't care less.
Heimon greeted me as soon as I arrived at my study room. "Beta Marius wants to present himself, Luna."
I nodded. "Have him come here."
"As you command."
I ignored the loud noise coming from the living room as I told Francis to fix everything in our manor. The moment he was being summoned by me, he already knew what to do. This wasn't even the first time he was being summoned so he wasn't surprised by it if he happened to see the dilapidated house.
I snapped back when I heard knocks on my door.
"Luna, it's Marius."
"Come in." He opened the door and bowed before me. "What do you wish to discuss with me?"
There was a hesitation in his eyes but he spoke. "There are some businesses Alpha Reginald needs to attend, Luna. However—"
"A Beta is a second-in-command, Marius. You deal with those shits while your Alpha is away. You shall deal with them on his behalf,"
I decided to pass down the work since Marius was here. I still had something to do and didn't need to shoulder the responsibility of the Alpha.
He was speechless but he cleared his throat to compose himself. "Luna, you have defeated him so many times. Why don't you declare that you are the new Alpha of the Lone Crow pack?"
I sighed and leaned on the desk. "Because I don't want to stay here. You can just gossip that I am the new Alpha but I am not going to shoulder all of the tasks. You can just summon Jonathan to take over this role. All I want is to have Reginald annul our marriage," I reasoned.
Marius's expression was unexplainable. But I could tell that he was disagreeing that Jonathan was the next Alpha.
"Or rather, you want Reginald to be an Alpha again, Marius? You know that he cannot fulfill his duties both from being an Alpha and lord of the House of Viscount Westervelt. You know how incompetent he is."
His expression screamed panic. I smirked seeing that he also didn't approve of how Reginald poorly handled our pack. Sooner or later, I would watch as this pack would crumble down.
But I am not going to wait for that. My pack members were the ones who would suffer here.
"Luna—"
"Summon Jonathan. He needs to know that his older brother is in a vegetative state because of his stupidity. Now, Marius," I said coldly.
Marius nodded. "I shall write Lord Jonathan a letter." He cleared his throat. "How about Lady Patricia, Luna? Shall I write her a letter, too?"
I smirked and nodded. "Yes. I need to hear that oh-so screechy voice of my sister-in-law as she curses me two-folds." I chuckled.
Patricia... She hated me for hurting Reginald so many times. She cherished Reginald so badly which was why I suspected that she would come here to pay us a visit—or more likely, to visit his brother.
The only normal Westervelt sibling was Jonathan. He was attentive as we had a good conversation. He was also a versatile person who was able to comprehend what was happening.
He was the one who disliked my marriage with Reginald. He was hostile at first but when I expressed how much I hated this marriage, his way of interacting with me changed.
That was when I realized that my late in-laws, Robert and Kaya Westervelt, never paid attention to their youngest child who had so much potential of being an Alpha and lord of the house.
They always put their expectations on the first older son to shoulder the responsibilities while neglecting their other son who was naturally born with leadership.
"I shall write them a letter to the royal academy and the Secure Reese pack," Marius said with a bow.
"Good. You may now dismiss. Scoot now." I gestured my hand indicating that he could leave now as I didn't need his presence anymore.
I returned to my seat and contemplated it as I closed my eyes and started rocking my chair back and forth.
The manor would soon fill with annoying voices. I could surmise Father would visit here. No doubt about that.
There was no excuse if he knew already that we brawled again and I won. He wouldn't believe me anyway that Reginald was the first one who started this fight.
But there was no way I needed to dismiss my father. This might create a negative impact on me but this was a good opportunity to rebuild my relationship with him.
I opened my eyes and looked at the ceiling. "Establish my relationship with my father again, huh? Mother, can I be able to do that?"
I inhaled sharply when I felt something touch my arm. But when I turned my head, I saw no one on my back.
My eyes widened as I mindlessly caressed that part of my arm where I felt the touch. It wasn't a cold one but a warm one.
It felt like it was indicating that my mother was watching me and she was always there for me...
Damn it!
