Frantic Frederick

*Chapter 61*

"My siren, here is the new agenda we received."

I took the scroll and read it. "Hmm..." I hummed, nodding my head. "Reginald is quickly moving as expected." I glanced at Oakley and bestowed him a reward. "Return to your post."

He made a bow. "Yes, my siren." With that, he suddenly vanished into thin air.

I went inside my chamber and went to the furnace to burn the information I received.

Reginald had started to move his plans just as I was doing as well. I already informed him that Father would pass down the marquis title in my own right.

I would never forget his horrified expression as soon as he found that out. It could mean that he had to make a diversion on his plans as well.

After that, I went to the balcony again to watch Frederick train. His toned muscles and firm chest were squeezing as soon as he hit the wooden sword to the wooden dummy.

"Hmm... I almost forgot that I hadn't tested his skills yet..." I talked to myself.

I was too preoccupied these days. I forgot that I must test how strong Frederick was. I knew that I said that he must do it while he was naked but I kept forgetting about it.

I wonder when I must fight him. Perhaps, one of these days...

I glanced at the clipboard on which my new schedule had been set. I already memorized them. My lessons will start next week.

I must also think of some ways on how I must raise my reputation. Attending tea parties wasn't enough. I must attend some secret social gatherings and build some trust with other people.

To do that, I must remove from their minds that I was the fifth prince's ex-fiancée and I was a harlot.

"Novalie!"

I snapped back when Father slammed the table to earn my attention.

"Pay heed! Will you be supposed to be like this at all times?!" He raised his voice, which didn't intimidate me.

It was nothing new to me that he would ever raise his tone on me. I just felt like I was returned to my childhood days where his strict parenting was palpable and unbearable. I even questioned myself how on earth had I managed to survive those lessons from my father.

"I'll pay heed," I said, wanting to retort scornfully.

He squinted his eyes. "Recite the first one hundred royal ordinances of the Sowinski Kingdom."

I inhaled sharply and nodded. "Royal Ordinance Number One. Lycans are the true royal bloodlines. The subjects of the kingdom are bound to serve them at all costs. Royal Ordinance Number Two. The Alpha King is the sun of the kingdom and the Luna Queen is the moon of the kingdom. The sun and moon symbolize unification and diversity. Royal Ordinance Number Three. The Alpha King is the Alpha of the Alphas and the Luna Queen is the Luna of the Lunas..."

The first ten royal ordinances were mentioning the roles of the Alpha King and Luna Queen as well as the roles of their offsprings. It might seem lackluster to even utter them but this was one of the ways to be reminded of these facts.

But as the number goes up, it would be the strict laws that were subject to amendment depending on how the discussion went well with the royal court and Alpha King Azarius or if they might see it fit to be amended.

So far, from what I know, they hadn't made an amendment. What they were working on right now was a new royal ordinance Alpha Denzil was talking about.

I highly suspected that they would also include allowing an Alpha female to lead a pack.

I must witness that.

I spent reciting the first one hundred royal ordinances for the whole day. Without having a break. That was how cruel Father was. Even if I was his daughter.

That was why when I went home, I couldn't open my mouth. I could only mind link my pack members if I was going to command them.

I retired to my chamber and made myself busy reading a book bestowed by Father that was all about geopolitics. He had given me two days to finish the five hundred pages of it and instructed me to write a reflection paper telling my insight about what I had learned.

I glanced at the opened door after Frederick knocked. "My goddess, I have brought you some tea."

I nodded and ushered my head so he could come here. Frederick placed the empty teacup along with its saucer before he poured it.

"I asked Lady Philea to make you some tea for sore throat. She prepared a licorice root tea when I also asked Doctor Timothy how it would be made at ease. He said that this would help you to fight off the illnesses that cause sore throat," he explained as soon as he was done.

I smiled and nodded, couldn't even dare to speak as I felt the pain in my throat. I gestured to my hand that he must kneel before me which he didn't hesitate as he looked at me with those puppy olive orbs.

I mouthed 'good boy' to him because he was very thoughtful right now. Frederick melted at my touch and leaned more.

With that, I ushered him that he could have a seat and join me drinking some tea while I was busy reading. As much as I want to have some playtime with my slaves, I couldn't find some time at the moment. I have been busy for the past few days ever since Father agreed that I would inherit his noble title.

It was not official yet as he didn't announce a welcome ceremony for me since I was still on the training. However, once I mastered everything, it would be easy to pass it even if the ceremony wasn't needed at all.

Frederick had been considerate and maintained behaving well these days. He understood everything since he knew all of my plans. For behaving well, I would reward him sooner or later.

He also took care of me since I had been having a hard time speaking. When tomorrow came, I had colds and coughs.

As always, Frederick was there beside me all the time. He was the one who personally prepared my meals and helped me take my medicine.

"Frederick... You didn't have to summon Timothy..." I said as I coughed. "This is just a simple cough..." I sighed when Timothy was checking my breathing at my back using a stethoscope.

"I cannot be at ease... You can hardly fall asleep..." he said, raising his tone a little as he looked at me worried.

I just shook my head and glanced at Timothy. "Well?"

Timothy turned at Frederick and took out a folded paper. "Take this. This is rosemary. Boil the leaves and make Luna inhale the steam. This is good for nasal and chest congestion." He took another folded paper. "Also, make some thyme tea for her."

"Yes, I shall do that." He immediately took it and left.

"Frederick!" I called him before I shot Timothy a glare. "This is nothing serious, you know that."

Timothy timidly smiled. "Luna, of all the slaves you have, he is the one who cares you the most. Can you not see it?" I rolled my eyes as I sniffed from the colds. He just chuckled. "Perhaps, I shall take my leave. Please get well soon, Luna."

Sighing, I just gestured my hand so he could leave before I put my attention to reading the book. I must finish this regardless if I was sick. Father wouldn't like this kind of excuse so I did not need to rest.

"My goddess, you are really stubborn... You must take a rest."

I glanced up and chuckled upon seeing Frederick holding a tray with a frown sitting on his handsome face. "I cannot sleep. Also, this is not an excuse for me to finish this. I do not want to leave a bad impression on my training to become a Marchioness in my own right, darling."

Frederick opened his mouth to utter something but he halted himself and just shook his head. He knew that I wasn't going to listen to him anyway.

"Please inhale these boiled rosemary leaves, my goddess. I also made you some thyme tea." He placed them on the table and looked at me. "Um... I am not a good brewer of tea. I hope it suits your taste."

I stared at him, seeing his cheeks getting tinted in red. He looked so adorable so I got up and sat on the chair. I did not want Frederick to waste his effort in bringing these to my chamber.

In my peripheral vision, Frederick knelt and crawled to hug my waist which didn't surprise me. My hand immediately reached for his hair so I could caress it after I took a sip on my thyme tea and set beside me the boiled rosemary leaves so I could inhale it.

"Your tea is improving, darling," I said and looked down at him.

"Really?" I nodded. I caressed his cheek which made him lean to my touch and close his eyes. "I shall do my best, my goddess."

"You have been behaving lately," I said softly while I was reading a certain page of the book. I glanced at him when he didn't say anything but surely his olive eyes were transfixed to me. I tilted my head a little. "Is there something wrong, darling?"

"You haven't paid attention to me lately, my goddess." Finally, he spoke as he frowned a little. Then he sighed and placed his chin on my thigh. "But I understand why you are busy. Pay no heed on me, my goddess." His tone sounded dejected.

I gently scratched the bridge of my nose to cease myself from stretching out a smile looking at him so adorable and sulking right now. "I'll make it up to you this weekend. What do you want us to do so you can cease sulking from your goddess, darling?" I gently pinched his cheek.

His face brightened up as he blinked. "I want to take a stroll in the town with you, my goddess. Can we do it at night time? I heard that the town is vibrant at night." Then he hugged my waist like he was a child clinging to his mother. "I wish to be you always, my goddess. Can we do that?" he pleaded.

I inhaled and exhaled, feeling my heart hammering inside my chest as I felt his warmth enveloping me. My wolf was reacting to his touch as I shivered.

"Alright," I said.

That earned him a gasp—surprise and happy gasp. "I-Is that true?" I nodded. "Yes!" I inhaled sharply before he shoved his face to my breasts which made me huff. But somehow, it felt ticklish and somehow it was making me aroused a little.

I must stop him before anything would lead us to the bed.

"Darling, take in-charge for the slaves in the cabin," I said as I tried to focus on reading the book. He looked up at me and slightly tilted his head. His eyes were full of perplexed. I caressed his hair before I drew closer to his ear. "Find out who are those slaves that chose to join in Reginald and know what Reginald offers to them," I whispered to his ear.

I did this so that we couldn't be heard from a few miles away.

"What must I do with them, my goddess? Do you wish me to eliminate them?" he whispered back and started massaging my flank.

I smirked as I nuzzled my nose to his hair. "No. I need you to watch them for me. They have roles to play in our plans after all."

He stood up and bowed before me. "As you wish, my goddess. This slave and knight of yours shall fulfill his duty," he said meaningfully.

His words brought us to smile viciously. I couldn't deny now that Frederick could understand me more than anyone else. He trusted my judgment even if it seemed impossible.

I am glad.

I am glad that Frederick was with me. I couldn't ask for more even if I say there was a chance that he would betray me in the end.
