To Achieve

*Chapter 57*

I dropped the tray and immediately rushed to Frederick. "Are you alright?" I asked, worried.

Frederick wiped his nose and nodded. He faintly smiled. "Yes, my goddess. I am alright," he said softly.

I caressed his face one more time to see if he was injured or not. Then I turned to my Father who stood up after Alpha Denzil helped him.

"Why did you hurt him, Father?" I asked as anger rose in me when I clenched my hands.

One thing I hated the most was they would hurt my Frederick for no reason. I was the only one who must dare to inflict pain on him, not from the other people.

"You are asking me why I hurt him?" he asked as he had a bitter smile when he was looking at Frederick. "Didn't you know that—"

"Nigelle! That is your daughter's knight! Stop harassing him!" I shivered when Alpha Denzil's voice surrounded the whole garden as he growled a warning.

Father looked at Alpha Denzil, bewildered. "You do not understand, Alpha. This man... This man is—"

"I am not going to allow you to hurt him!" I said angrily, chiming in.

The urge of wanting to protect my darling from my father rose from me. I didn't hesitate to step forward.

"I have arrived here to visit my former pack yet this is how you are going to welcome your daughter, Father? What kind of discourtesy are you showing?" I clenched my teeth afterwards.

Father's jaw dropped after I spoke. He couldn't believe that I would spout words to express how disappointed I was in him. His action led me to believe that I was so close to lashing out at him if it weren't that Alpha Denzil and Luna Helen were here.

"That's enough, Nigelle!" I flinched when Alpha Denzil's tone rose when Father was about to speak. He grabbed Father's collar and made him look at him.

I ignored how my legs were shaking because of that. The power Alpha Denzil held as an Alpha was palpable and couldn't be surpassed by Reginald. His tone would force you to submit and wouldn't make you defy his orders even if you do not wish to follow them.

That was the power of an Alpha. Fascinating.

I exchanged glances at Alpha Denzil and Father when they turned silent. I looked away and turned at Frederick when I realized that they were mind linking each other.

Worried, I fished out my handkerchief to wipe the blood from his handsome face. "It will be alright."

"I am already alright." He drew out a soft smile.

"Novalie, let's bring him to the infirmary. I am not at ease if he is hurt," Luna Helen said who approached us.

I nodded as a response. "Come, Frederick. Let's get you treated." I held out my hand to him which Frederick accepted as he stood up.

We had him checked by Doctor Oswalt, one of the pack doctors here in the Wall Burgundy pack. I felt relieved when he said that Frederick was fine. His healing process accelerated so there was nothing to worry about.

Luna Helen left when she was being summoned to the packhouse. She apologized to me that she had to leave right now.

"It's alright, Luna Helen. But thank you for assisting us," I said with a smile.

She nodded. "As soon as I am finished with my task, I shall return." She approached and caressed my face. "Denzil will come here along with Nigelle later. I am certain that there is a misunderstanding."

"Yes." Nodding, she bid farewell. Then I turned at Frederick who was laying down in the bed and staring at the ceiling. "What happened back there, darling?" I asked, approaching him so I could caress his cheek.

Frederick took my hand and planted a soft kiss on my wrist. There was hesitation at first as he stayed silent for a moment before he spoke. "I am having a conversation with Duke Jansen because... we were the ones left in the garden. Then Marquis Argerich arrived and saw me... I told him that I am your knight, my goddess. However, he must have felt insulted and cannot accept that you have one," he explained in a disdainful expression.

That made me pinch the bridge of my nose when I felt like I was about to explode from the unreasonable action Father did to Frederick. Calm down, Novalie. We were not going to wreak havoc in your Alpha's pack. Do not disrespect them. This wasn't Lone Crow pack. I chanted to calm myself.

"I think we must leave..." I suggested, feeling my blood boil upon remembering how my father hurt him. "I shall visit again when—"

"My goddess, it is better if you manage to do your agenda today." He cut me off as he looked at me with determination in his eyes.

I opened to retort back but I realized what he said was right. However, I couldn't be at ease that Father hurt Frederick.

I snapped back when Frederick gently squeezed my hand so I could put my attention on him. "This is your goal you need to achieve. You just need to dismiss what happened to me. You must remain calm when you face your father."

His soothing words were like a calm melody to my ears. The feeling of wreaking havoc and feeling gloomy was making me feel serene right now.

"My goddess?"

I sighed and nodded. "You're right..." I inhaled and exhaled before I looked at him and decided to caress his hair.

Frederick squirmed as he melted from my touch. I heard him purring softly before his olive orbs locked on me. His eyes were full of emotions.

I also saw that he had something he wanted to say but there was hesitation in his expression.

I turned my head when the door swung open. I separated myself and stood up upon seeing Alpha Denzil and Father. I curtsied to them.

"Is Sir Frederick alright?" Alpha Denzil asked, turning his head at Doctor Oswalt.

Doctor Oswalt bowed his head. "He is already fine the moment Luna Helen and Lady Novalie brought him here in the infirmary. We just only wiped the blood on his face, Alpha," he answered politely.

Alpha Denzil nodded. "Very well." He turned at Father whose eyes were piercing at Frederick. "Nigelle, I believe you wish to have a reunion with your daughter so I need to refrain you from acting hostile in front of her." He tapped Father's back.

Father snapped back and turned his attention to me. He flinched when he must have seen how my face darkened even though I was in my calm composure.

Sighing, he fixed the lapel of his expensive suit. "Let's have our noon meal at the manor. I shall wait for you there," he said and turned his back to leave the infirmary.

I clenched my hands. I was waiting for an apology for causing a commotion at Alpha Denzil's mansion and what he did to Frederick but I didn't hear anything. Was that even hard to say? I scoffed silently. I never heard him apologizing before. So why must I expect that he would do that right now?

"Novalie."

I looked up when a hand was placed on top of my head. It was Alpha Denzil. I smiled bitterly.

"Alpha... I told you this before, right? There is no way Father and I would ever be in one place..." I said in a dejected tone.

He sighed. "Novalie... Your father is just not as expressive as you think. But I am certain that your father cares for you."

"I don't see it..." I sighed before I smiled. "It doesn't matter. I shall visit the manor. It has been a long time since I haven't stepped on it."

Alpha Denzil stepped back and nodded. "That is a good idea. But you won't mind if Sir Frederick would stay here for a while, right? I don't think bringing him there to your father's manor would situate the situation."

I glanced at Frederick who suddenly panicked upon hearing that. He simply shook his head, indicating that he didn't want to stay here. But I need to settle some scores with my father and must gain the trust that he would entrust to me his noble title.

"Stay here, Frederick." The moment I said those words, there was a protest in them. "I'll be right back."

"But, my goddess—"

"I am certain that Sir Frederick and I will get along." Alpha Denzil chimed in with a smile. Then he turned to Frederick. "You wouldn't mind, right, Sir Frederick? You know that your master needs to get along with her father." I saw him wiggling his eyebrows. Even so, I noticed that he was bestowing Frederick a meaningful gaze.

It meant that Frederick must cooperate that Father and I need to talk with only just the two of us.

Frederick nodded and coerced a smile. "I will be fine here, my goddess."

I sighed in relief and approached him. "Behave here. Alright?" I said in a low volume of my tone. When Frederick nodded, I caressed his hair before I turned at Alpha Denzil who was staring intently at us.

I could already tell that what we were doing was something that a knight and a lady wouldn't do. He would likely suspect that I was cheating on my husband. It was nothing new actually. He was already aware that I had been having slaves in the Lone Crow pack to satisfy my nights. My name had been tarnished a long time ago. However, Alpha Denzil and Luna Helen didn't say anything.

I could tell that they understood my situation that I was rebelling at my marriage because the man I married was not my mate after all.

That was a fact.

And the fact that Father wasn't helping me to divorce my marriage made everything worse.

I left Alpha Denzil and Frederick at the infirmary so I could saunter my way to the manor. I inhaled and exhaled upon seeing this manor. I hadn't come here ever since I married Reginald almost four years ago.

I almost cussed out a series of expletives when I remembered that this lean season was Reginald and I's fourth wedding anniversary. Reginald would prepare for this anniversary party at the House of Westervelt. I am certain that he would invite all the nobles and businessmen he had connections with and I was left with no choice again but to entertain them along with him.

This party was to showcase that no matter if I kept tarnishing the name of the House of Westervelt, Reginald and I were still married and wouldn't divorce until the day one of us died.

I clenched my hands. I am not going to come to that point. Just seeing Reginald's shadow would be enough to make my stomach churn upside down.

I already had a hunch that our guests would imply that I must get pregnant already. But even if I bear Reginald's pup, some rumors were going to be circulating that it wouldn't be Reginald's pup but to another man's.

Knowing that I was a harlot, I didn't care about it anyway. Also, there was no way I was going to bear his child. That was why I had been taking my fertility control to avoid pregnancy from the men I had spent my night with.

I was also being careful now that Frederick was able to cum inside me. I need to avoid pregnancy with him as much as possible. It was frightening what would have happened if I ever bore Frederick's pup.

Who knows... He might do something that I wouldn't like.

"Welcome back, Lady Novalie."

I snapped back when I realized that I was being greeted by the servants who lined up in the aisle as I entered the gate. Then at the end of the aisle was the front porch where I saw Father having a stone-faced expression.

Right there and then, I could already tell that Father had something to say.

And so, I am.
