Chapter 27
Howard actually goes out of his way to visit Tiffany in her hometown. The only thing is...it's not really where she's from. Still that doesn't stop Howard from pitching in to help around her and her grandfather who has a little scheme up his sleeve.
Howard is watching the demo of his commercial campaign video with the rest of the staff of the company and Representative Oliver is very impressed showering him with praises. Even Anna is wondering how he was able to conquer his fear of water in such a short time. Howard only gives her a sly look in return.
Tiffany sits with her grandfather back at her grand home in north york city. Her Grandpa comments on her lack of energy but Tiffany says that he was the one who made it seem like he was really sick when all he had was a small cold. He changes the subject to her neglecting him for her deskmate, Howard, but she assures him that they're just classmates. The more important question for her is how he knew that they sat together. he had someone investigate him. Tiffany tells her grandfather that she'll spend the entire week with him, already having applied for a week leave from school and that seems to cheer him up.
She wishes to know the true story about her parents, and her grandfather begins to dive into it. He tells her how her mother went to study at south yorkshire city and then came home with Tiffany's father, wishing to marry him, after she graduated. He was against the union, trying to talk her out of it, but her mother left and began her life with her new husband in south yorkshire city. The reason of their death was due to a car accident.
Tiffany is curious as to why her grandfather didn't tell her the truth and he admits that in the past he truly believed that her father was to be blamed because he took her mother away, holding a grudge against him. However, now, he realizes he was selfish and that Tiffany had the right to know the truth. He asks if she blames him but she said she doesn't. He also shares the news that he won't force her to go through with the engagement. Her Grandpa does warn her, though, that she still can't do exactly whatever she wants as her future husband must be compatible with their family and her.
At that moment Tiffany receives a call from Howard who is none other than at the airport in North yorks city. That throws Tiffany for a loop as he tells her that he took the earliest flight and wants to know her address to visit her. In a nervous panic she tells Howard that her grandfather is really mean and that her family isn't well off. Unable to bear it any longer her Grandpa takes the phone and gives the name of a village, telling him to meet them there.
Tiffany doesn't know what they should do and is also curious about the address that her grandfather gave him but he has a plan and tells Tiffany that they'll be able to take a good look at Howard's colors.
Howard is on his way to the village and calls Tiffany to ask why it's so far away and when he finally does arrive, she meets him on an old wagon type bike to take him back to the house on. While Howard is a bit hesitant to be on it, he still agrees and even offers to steer the bike himself. He even pushes from behind when they can't really get it moving anymore. Tiffany takes that opportunity to ask him why he came and he says he was worried about her since she left suddenly and wanted to come see her.
The two finally arrive but Tiffany gets thrown for a loop when Howard asks where her house is. She doesn't exactly remember but manages to figure it out. Her house is a small run-down looking thing and Howard wonders if it's livable. Tiffany musters out that it's livable for people and asks him if he hates it but he shakes his head saying he doesn't.
Tiffany ushers Howard inside to meet her grandfather and as soon as they enter, a beam falls from the ceiling. Her Grandpa is sitting there reading the paper and looks at Howard with a stern face. He informs them that the beam that fell is their family heirloom, even creating a story to go along with it, making it seem like Howard is bad luck. Knowing this, Howard tells them that he'll fix it and promises to keep his word.
And he does just that as he's on the ladder fixing the beam to the roof. Tiffany quietly scolds her grandfather for making him work. Howard assures that he's fine, when Grandpa asks, and brushes off the slight injuries he gets.
As Tiffany is outside watching Howard, she gets a call from Laurence who informs her that she's been discharged and is back at school. The two catch up with one another and Jeff overhears that Howard went to visit Tiffany.
Once Laurence hangs up, some girls approach her and ask her if the errands business is open. They've closed it for the time being but she offers to buy them lunch as a token of appreciation. When she goes to head back with the heavy bags, kengsington attempts to help her but is immediately brushed off. Laurence is defensive asking why he's helping when he was the one who said they shouldn't see each other and he explains that he doesn't want her wound to get worse. But Laurence gets the last word as she says she won't bother him and then make him be responsible for it.
Howard has finished fixing the beam and Tiffany delivers him water but under her Grandpa's watchful eye, he doesn't dare drink any. Out of politeness he offers it to Grandpa , saying he did all of the work, but Tiffany stands up for Howard. It's her turn next, though, as Grandpa tells her to go make lunch while they go out to the fields.
