Chapter 35
Tiffany is sleeping at her desk when Bernice and her followers came up to her. The two bite back at one another, Tiffany clearly not having any of Bernice as she warns her not to disturb him and not to talk to him. Tiffany questions why she should listen to Bernice and she pulls out the reason that they grew up together and he promised to take care of her forever. She tells Tiffany that nothing will ever happen between them and finally up to a fight, Tiffany asks if she'll actually believe her.
Bernice continues to insult Tiffany and begins to list guys that she tried to start a relationship with, like Jeff and Howard. She tries to say that Howard should date someone from a comparable family and calls Tiffany materialistic. Sarcastically Tiffany says that she is materialistic and that she approached Howard, asking if she's satisfied. But she does add that Howard would rather fall for someone like her than to even care about Bernice asking if that drives her crazy and even calls Howard hers. Bernice was so angry at Tiffany 's word and backs away from them with a fake smile on her face and leaves the classroom.
Bernice doesn't yet know that Tiffany is Jessica and about her background cause then clearly she can't call her materialistic when her grandfather probably has more money. That's just based on the sizes of their houses alone.
It's finals day in school so all of the students are in attendance. Howard and Tiffany are quiet, not even looking at each other and when the tests are collected, Howard goes to leave. Tiffany stops him and asks to talk but Howard isn't in the mood. She begins to try to explain herself when a voice recording of the previous day plays over the loudspeakers. It's the one of Tiffany calling herself materialistic and insulting Bernice. Andrew hears it in the hallway and dashes off in a hurry. Tiffany tries to explain herself but Howard has already had it and brushes Tiffany off since all she did was trample on his heart and make him feel like a joke.
Andrew heads to the broadcasting room where Bernice is playing the recording over. He approaches her and drags her out of the room but doesn't get too far. He demands she apologize to Tiffany and Bernice can't believe what she's hearing. He tells her that Tiffany wouldn't say those things if not for Bernice but she just can't understand why everyone is so eager to defend her. Andrew yells that he trusts her because she's his friend and Bernice asks if she's such a horrible person then. She admits to doing all of the bad things and asks if Andrew is happy and wonders if Tiffany is his friend then what about her. Andrew tells her she's different but is unable to say anything else.
Howard begins to pack up his items in his and Jeff's hideaway when Jeff comes to stop him. Howard clearly doesn't want to speak with him but Jeff tries to talk some reasoning into him. Howard begins to take his anger out on Jeff as he finally pushes him saying he thought he was his friend. Jeff still assures him he's his friend but Howard says he's not as he punches his face. Still, Jeff doesn't give up and Howard figures that when Jeff asked if they'd ever fight he was preparing himself for that moment when they'd fight over the same girl.
Angrily Howard throws his backpack on the ground as he yells that he believed in the two of them and Jeff brings up the moment they first met each other. It was back when they were young and everyone knew he was an illegitimate child so no one wanted to play with him except for Howard. Howard talked to him first and was the first person to play with him so ever since then he always thought of him as his best friend. He admits to liking Jessica and reveals that he let go of his feelings after discovering her true identity because he'd never betray his best friend. He angrily wonders if Howard thought everything she did was a lie and leaves him to think about the rest himself.
Time has presumably passed as the exam results are out and Laurence sees that kengsington made it into the top 100. She thinks back to a time when they were studying and he was interested in a book she was reading. Laurence hid it from him and told him that he'd be able to know if he made it into the top 100 and he actually took her up on the challenge.
Laurence heads to the library to see kengsington on his laptop and looks for the book that she was reading. She overhears some girls talking about how handsome he is but rethinks her decision to approach him and ends up putting the book back and leaving.
So both she and Tiffany are sad in their room. Tiffany gets a message from Daniel who would like to ask (Jordan) for some artwork for Howard's next album. Tiffany thinks that Howard would really hate her if he knew about her third identity, the one who drew those funny pictures of him, and just collapses on her bed.
Daniel, who is together with Anna and Howard, wonders why Jordan doesn't take him up on such a good offer. He does notice Howard's gloomy demeanor and wonders why since the album production is doing well. Howard decides to hear him out and Daniel says that he should personally invite Jordan.
So that's what he does and Tiffany sees that Howard has sent her a video message personally inviting her to work together on his new album. She sees messages from some of her followers, some who already know about the offer, who talk amongst themselves wondering if they should find her to convince her to take it. Now Tiffany's in a position where if she doesn't take the offer, her followers will find out every single bit of information about her.
That night a sleeping Laurence wakes to see Tiffany looking at her. She tells her that her happiness is in her own hands and that she's going to do the same, wishing them both luck before she leaves the dorm dress like a guy with beard.
Well that was quite something. It's understandable that Howard would be mad. Not only was he hit with the whole Jeff and Tiffany hugging thing but he was also hit with the revelation that Tiffany was Jessica. It's no wonder he blew up like that and now doesn't trust anyone. Howard hates it when people lie and his best friend and the girl he likes did the absolute number one thing.
Howard's fight with Jeff was really something. Even though Howard did punch him in the face, Jeff never laid a hand on him or even attempted to. That attributed to his kind personality but because Jeff values his friendship too much and he knows if he were to return a punch or fight back then his friendship with Howard would probably cease to exist.
Howard is mad about the entire thing, It great that Jeff didn't give up on trying to explain things to him. He tried to make things right and tried to explain the situation pointing out that he should listen to his own feelings about whether he truly believes everything Tiffany did the entire time was lie or if that was just kind of an instinct reaction to finding everything out.
As for Bernice, there's still some work that needs to be done with her. She was laying pretty low before but now she's back in full swing bullying Tiffany. She knows that Howard is not so happy with Tiffany. therefore that's her open opportunity to get back into his good graces. But despite that, she knows that Howard prefers Tiffany over her, as Tiffany pointed out. The entire time he's never looked her way but somehow it seems like she believes he'll hold good on his promise of taking care of her forever.
Bernice thinks her interaction with Andrew in the broadcasting room was intresting though. She thinks she and Andrew were friends and that hearing he took Tiffany's side over hers just hurt her. She did have tears in her eyes before leaving the classroom.
