Chapter 34
Howard is studying there, looking for Tiffany but unable to get a hold of her. Kengsington arrives at that moment and sits across from him, although he didn't initially know it was him. They pretend to act cool with each other but they begin to help each other with their study books. Howard asks about the scores and kengsington learns that Howard had a higher English score than he did. however, he had a higher score in math. Kengsington suggests that they tutor each other before the finals.
Jeff and Tiffany are already out of the library and discussing dinner. Tiffany wants to eat some street food but Jeff has never eaten those before. She explains that the real hidden gems are on the streets rather than in a fancy restaurant and they agree that that's the way to go. They end up going to a restaurant where they get a ton of dishes. That doesn't slow Tiffany down as she happily eats every single one of them.
Once they were done their meal it's time to get to what they wanted to tell each other. For Tiffany it's about Howard. She tells Jeff she realizes Howard sacrificed a lot and expresses her desire to tell him that she likes him and brings up the whole lying to him about her true identity. Jeff is surprised to hear that he doesn't know yet and she tries to explain that she couldn't find the timing. Jeff figures she should've told him by now, I am also in that boat, but Tiffany is still stock. Jeff explains that Howard is going to be mad upon finding out that he got lied to but is sure that he'll come to understand therefore she should be honest if she wants to be serious about their relationship. He says that they'll have to carry the burden together if something goes wrong in the future since he knows and hasn't told him either.
Tiffany orders beers for both of them but Jeff is nervous because of the finals. Tiffany, on the other hand, isn't nervous and both of them begin to drink. It doesn't take much before Tiffany is drunk and Jeff, being the gentleman, helps support her but there's someone taking pictures of them in the parking lot.
It looks like Howard is going to find out about Tiffany and it's obviously not going to be in the best way. It looks like things are about to get messy for them.
But if Tiffany had told him earlier he wouldn't have believe what they're about to show him. there were opportunities and chances she could've taken and while the whole 'not wanting her grandfather to find her" and the whole 'grandpa told me not to say anything so I'm not going to" all this things at some point had to be a way she could've told him. the point when Howard went to visit her seems like the best point.
Upon hearing that Howard was going to come visit her, her grandfather built her a village and instead told her not to reveal her identity not thusly told Howard about her true identity. It would've been an honest way and she and her grandfather could have explained the reasons for her doing that. But now it seems like he'll see the picture and hear some things that Tiffany said before.
Kengsington wants to stop being a pain for everyone and he and Howard finally made up, It's nice that Howard never really gave up on their friendship and probably understood the pain that kengsington was going through, Although Howard stepping in to help shield kengsington was pretty cool. it was consistent with their characters.
Howard said in his speech to the reporters, that Tiffany has always been his silent supporter, unconditionally on his side no matter what. Bernice thought he was talking about her during his speech. But when she heard him say Tiffany she knew it wasn't her and that made her more jealous of Tiffany. She is still there and still wants to be a part of Howard's life when she knew howard doesn't love she can't bring herself to understand his feelings for Tiffany all she feel is jealousy.
It's final weeks for the students and Laurence is working hard to study in the library. As she's studying, kengsington comes and tries to sit next to her but the seat has already been reserved for Tiffany. Using his threatening nature to his advantage, he takes a student's seat next to her and actually stops Laurence when she tries to leave. She obediently does as she's told but the air is quiet between them.
Kengsington searches for something in his pocket and pulls out a tissue for Laurence to wipe her tears away with. She doesn't answer his question about her tears and wonders why he called her over. He wants her to essentially tutor him. That's not all, though, as he does apologize.
Bernice is walking through campus when she gets word of Jeff and Tiffany being out together and hugging one another. She's happy to hear that Howard may have already heard of the news and she even tells Andrew about it when he asks to go study. Instead she goes off to find Howard.
Tiffany and Jeff are walking together when she asks him about what he wanted to tell her the previous day. He tries to brush it off but Tiffany is persistent since he put up with her before. Jeff confesses that he's not sure it's going to work and continues by asking her what she'd do if what he wanted to say was that he liked her. Tiffany attempts to take it as a joke but Jeff is realistic and knows that Tiffany likes Howard and that he has already let it go. However, he just wants her to know that she's one of a kind to him and is going to become his best friend's girlfriend. They decide to hug it out as friends and that's when Howard comes upon, obviously.
And that's how he finds out that Tiffany is Jessica. He tries to walk by the two and Jeff attempts to explain but Howard was already mad. He wonders what he should think when he saw his best friend and the girl he likes treating him like a fool. He demands an explanation otherwise but knows they can't give him one. Howard brings up the fact that Tiffany lied to him wondering if any moment with her was true and tells Jeff that Tiffany is his.
Tiffany tries to explain it to him and says she only saw Jeff because she wanted to tell him the truth about her identity. Howard wonders if that's how they ended up hugging each other and brings out the picture. He doesn't want to hear any of her explanations and andrew and an excited Bernice arrive as they're arguing.
Tiffany lays it out that she and Jeff are just friends and admits to lying to him. She admits it was her fault for not telling him the truth and confesses that he's been the only one she's liked since the beginning.
Not being able to handle it anymore Bernice enters the place and tries to paint Tiffany as playing a game or collecting boyfriends. Howard doesn't say anything and simply leaves but Bernice blocks Tiffany's path when she tries to go after him telling her not to bother him anymore. Jeff tries to calm a visibly upset Tiffany and promises to try to explain it to him later. She rejects his offer to take her back to the dorm and decides to be alone.
She stares at her plant that Howard gave her in her room when she tells Laurence she needs to tell her a secret. She confesses to being Jessica and even completely transforms for Laurence to see her true identity. Tiffany explains the entire story, even the reason why she changed her appearance, to Laurence but thankfully she isn't upset and can actually understand her reasoning. At least someone else can, besides Jeff, understand her.
Laurence tells Tiffany not to worry about Howard since he'll surely come around and Tiffany brings up Laurence and kengsington. The two girls have a chuckle between themselves.
