Chapter One-hundred-and-two: Fulfilling promises, Part 1
I arrive at the hospital with a naked Lukas on my back. Doctor Lowe meets us at the door and her face pales.
She looks around outside, wanting to make sure no one sees the Alpha like this, and ushers me in.
She says nothing as she leads me upstairs. I make sure I’m careful to keep Lukas on my back and not to slip off. It proves more difficult than I anticipated as the stairs are causing my body to be more upright as I go up them, and I find Lukas nearly sliding off several times.
As we go up through the hospital I see some rooms occupied. I smell many different scents and I can tell the rooms are filled with those who are taking a longer time to heal, or those who are not werewolves so probably don’t have healing abilities like we do.
We make it to the top floor and I trot to a room on the far end of the left corridor. Doctor Lowe points to the bed for me to put Lukas down. I move over to the bed and try to slide him into it, with her assistance.
I manage to drop him off gently and she then takes the lead in moving cables around him and making him look more comfortable. She eyes me at one point and points to a cupboard to the side of the room.
“There’s some clothes in there you’re welcome to, Luna.” She says, then goes back to tending to Lukas.
I make my way over and shift quickly, standing naked behind her. I open the cupboard and take out a pair of underwear, along with some shorts and a tank top. I put them on quickly, surprised that they fit perfectly.
“Was this room ready for us?” I ask questioningly, unsure why the clothes are a perfect fit.
“Yes, and no. Alpha Lukas asked me to ensure a cupboard was ready with clothes for both you and him, in case it was ever needed.” She responds, still concentrating on fixing Lukas up with all the wires.
I see an IV bag being put on a hanger besides him, and I see her attach it to a vein in his wrist. The dripping from it starting as she sets it to start. She then turns round and sighs deeply, looking at me.
“I have so many questions, Luna. Our Alpha was dead when I last examined him, his wolf was cold.” She looks to him puzzled. “When a wolf dies in wolf form, they can’t shift back. Yet here he is, in his human form, alive and breathing…..severely malnourished, but alive.”
“He is my gift.” Is all I say, leaving her to ponder on my words. A smile plays across her lips as she holds her hands up.
“Very well, I won’t ask further.” She bows her head in respect. “Somethings changed with you, Luna. I can’t put my finger on it but it makes no difference to me. Thank you for bringing our Alpha back to us.”
I smile at her and nod. “I wish to be alone with him for now. I will leave soon, as I have other matters to attend to.” I request, and she bows her head and leaves, closing the door behind her.
I take a seat on the chair besides Lukas’ bed. I shuffle it a bit closer to him causing it to create a scraping noise on the floor, but there’s no one else here but us, so I don’t care.
I look to Lukas, who I can see is breathing steadily by the rise and fall of his chest. His hair is long but not as dishevelled as I thought it would be. His beard has grown out again and I smile remembering he’d said he’d leave it this time. I don’t care though, as in my eyes he looks perfect, even though he is underweight. I feel Athena purring in my mind, just by being close to him. I place my hand on his, feeling his warmth and the tingles make the hairs rise on my arm. I smile, feeling blessed to be in his presence again after all this time. I sit there next to him for seemingly hours, watching the Sun completely fall out the window and rise once again.
I just wanted to stay there and watch him, but I know I have things to do to make sure all is in order again. Who knows how long he’ll be out for. I feel Athena huff in my mind but she knows we need to make moves before he wakes.
I stand and kiss Lukas on the forehead, promising to be back again soon. I mind-link Doctor Lowe and tell her I’m leaving for some errands, and that she is under no circumstance, to let anyone else know Lukas is here, and that I will tell them in due course.
I look for Nuria, knowing she will be able to help me with those who were still on pack lands that were not part of the pack. I reach the pack house and as it’s still early morning, I manage to evade everyone. Well, everyone but Jorge.
“Good morning Luna.” He says to me and bows.
A smile creeps up on my lips. “Good morning Jorge. I hope you’re well.”
He nods his head slightly.
“Please ignore my presence for now.” I request. “Have you seen Nuria?”
He points his head towards the dining room. “She’s having some breakfast, as usual.” He says with a playful smile. I thank him and head to the dining room.
As I walk through the door, I see Nuria perk up at me, a smile spreading over her face as if she already knows.
“I can see how happy you are. How is he?” She says quietly, answering my unasked question.
My smile can’t get any bigger. “He’s severely malnourished, but alive. He’s at the hospital being looked after.
She takes a breath. “I’m glad, I don’t think anyone would have been unable to put up with your whining anymore.” She says sarcastically, and I roll my eyes at her.
I change the topic to serious business. “I think it’s about time we fulfil our promises to the non-pack members.”
She nods slowly whilst taking a bite of her food. “I agree. I’ve had Troy reach out to me several times already. They feel uneasy being in wolf territory.” She pauses a moment, before turning to me. “The Geodras have been stood in the same position since shortly after you left….it’s kind of creepy.”
“Where are they?” I ask.
She finishes up her breakfast and gets up. “I’ll take you to them.”
We leave the pack house, still being unseen but I’m not completely surprised as it is still extremely early. We head towards the lake at a steady pace, a few pack members seeing me and bowing in respect, before going on their way.
We arrive at the lake and I see them instantly, standing like stone at the bottom of the cliff where it meets the water. We walk up to them and stand a few meters in front of them. When we stop, the largest one moves to greet us.
“Hello Goddess. We’ve been waiting for you to return.” It says slowly.
“I can see.” I respond lightly. I look at them, counting only seven still. “Has there always been only seven of you?” I ask, interested.
The largest one responds again. “No. Once, before the God Solaris turned his eye to our world to join his species with the Goddess Selene in secret, there were thousands of us. But his creation destroyed us, which is why we turned to the dark one for help. As you know well, he eventually gave it to us, in a sense, but at the cost of this.” The largest one says, gesturing to the last ones there.
I remember them asking me to break their encasement, but I have no idea how to do it. “You asked me to help you return to how you once were. I am sorry, but I don’t know how to do this.” I say, ashamed that I am not able to help them revert back to their true form.
The largest one leans down towards me, on one knee. “You, are a Goddess of both fire and water. Something that should not exist. The Obsidian you can make, is much different than the one we gifted her before.” He says, politely gesturing towards Nuria. “Your obsidian is what you would call….magical. If you were to aim this at our hearts, then you can break the stone and crystals that are covering our true bodies.”
I look at the creature in front of me, requesting my help. I have no idea how they could have so much knowledge about me and my powers before I even knew myself. I decide I won’t ask, as what is done is done. I look behind it and realise none of them have ever said a word, but I assume there’s nothing more to be said. I ask the one question that’s playing on my mind.
“What’s your plan after I turn you back?”
The Geodra takes a moment to think it over. “I am unsure.” It honestly states. “We will look at our reflection.” It says, and it croaks slightly, possibly a laugh, I think. Then it responds. “We will decide when we return to our mortal bodies.”
I smile at the Geodra in front of me, resolute in my decision. “I will respect the promise I made and I would be glad to revert you all back to your true bodies.”
The Geodra, upon hearing this, stands up and walks back to its companions, standing in the same spot it was in before.
I create water with my right arm and molten lava with my left, which is so much easier than when I last tried to do it. Just as I go to merge them together, I feel a rush behind me.
I turn round to see Troy looking down at my hands, a look of dismay plastered on his face.
