Chapter Sixty-two: The God of darkness

I feel my heart leap out of my chest and as it does, Lukas stirs and notices my racing heart.

“You’ve found something, haven’t you?”

I nod. “I’ve seen the name Erebus. I suspect that there’s some information on him in here.” I say, showing the book to Lukas.

He scrunches his nose up and squints his eyes. “What are you on about? There’s nothing there?”

I look back at the book and point at the word. “Yes….yes there is, it’s right here.”

He looks at where I’m pointing but I can see the vacant look in his eyes. He shakes his head, looking back at me.

Maybe this book is only visible to me. I don’t understand why but I decide that if it’s some sort of trick or deception I had best read out loud what I can before I am not able to read it anymore.

“Erebus. The God of Darkness. Borne of two Gods. Was once a gracious God who brought forever sleep to those who wished it. Was frowned upon by the other Gods for allowing their creations to be murdered in darkness, even if it was by their will. They banished him from Eos, tossing him into a never-ending pit.
The God pulled himself out of the pit, and started spreading darkness in multiple worlds, realms and universes alike.
Erebus goes by many names. Scotus, Darki, Nighten, The Devourer, Fedori.
Erebus has one child, named Nuria.
It is said he will turn all into darkness, and he will take over the kingdom of Eos with his gained power, swallowing all Gods and Goddesses alike, consuming their powers.”

I stop there, looking up at Lukas who has a sullen expression. “So it’s the devourer of worlds on our doorstep.” He says, exasperated, and I don’t blame him. How are we to stop something like this.

I place my head in my hands, trying to think. I grimace, not knowing about my powers or what I can achieve. The slim amount of information the Moon Goddess and Sun God bestowed upon me.

I sit up, not wanting to be defeated already. I flip through the pages and try to find the one other name I think can help us.

Nuria.

I see her name, and the small section underneath it.

Nuria is not seen as a Goddess, as she is not pure blood. She has the ability to teleport to wherever she desires. She can go to different worlds, universes even.

Nothing more is said of her which frustrates me. I don’t relay the information to Lukas as I think we’re both in way over our heads, and looking over at him I can tell he’s shattered. But we need to find her. She seems to be the next step forward from what Elijah read in my book earlier today, plus the information in this book confirms my suspicions. Fedori is her Father.

I reel over that last bit. At least she seems to want to take him down based on the wording from my book, right? I need to find her….but how? How do I find someone who can teleport wherever she wants? I guess I can only hope that she finds her Father and then make her way to us.

“Did you find anything else?” Lukas asks, bringing me back to reality.

“No, nothing useful.” I lie, not wanting to mention my plans to try and find Nuria.

He looks at me patiently but seems to go against pursuing further. “I think that’s enough for today. Let’s put these back and head back home.” Lukas decides and stands up, starting to move the books we had out on the desk, back to the bookcase.

I move the rest over with him, including the book that had given me the slim information about both Fedori and Nuria. There’s no point in keeping it out as there’s not much more I can do with it, never mind show anyone it.

Lukas takes my hand once we place the books back and starts leading me out of the library. My mind starts to drift to the words the dark elf said to me when he pulled me into the darkness.

“Maybe you understand you have more power than you let on. This will not be the last time we meet, and when we do eventually meet in the real world, I’ll be coming for the powers that are rightfully mine”

I replay this in my head several times, each time trying to decipher what he meant. I know I can maybe control water but I need to work on that skill. I also know that I have stronger werewolf abilities such as being able to mind-link more wolves at a time, than other wolves. Unsure if this relates to Lukas but I keep this thought to myself. I don’t know what else I could do though.

“Athena?” I reach out, wondering if she was able to shed any light.

“I’m unsure Ali. I know we’re powerful considering we’re borne of two deities. But I know as much as you do. I’m part of you and I really don’t know any special information that you don’t already know. I can feel power residing within us. I think it’s about time you spend some time next to the lake and try and figure out what you can do.”

I agree with her. I feel bad that I’ve not spent more time trying to figure out my powers and to learn more about them. I remember anger pushing my limits but surely that can’t be the only way to use my power.

“I think you need to learn to feel the environment around you, rather than just concentrate on one small spot. When you tried last time, you were focusing on one specific part of the water, whereas you need to take it all in. You can control it all, we just need to figure out how.” Athena says, butting into my thoughts. I smile, knowing that she’s right.

“I agree. Let’s go there tomorrow when we’re fresh so we can try to see what we can do.”

I look up at Lukas who looks incredibly tired. I tip-toe to place a kiss on his cheek and he smiles and turns to kiss me back sweetly. I feel my face heat up, the sparks fluttering from our point of contact, making me shiver in delight. He pulls away and removes my hand from his, then draping his arm around my shoulders as we continue walking.

“Tomorrow I’d like to spend the day by the lake. I want to try and figure out my powers.”

He looks at me, as if trying to understand the sudden urge. “You want to try and see what you can do?” He thinks on it a second. “I can try and cancel some of my meetings, just give me…”

I look at him with a slight glare, not coming across as malicious. “I want to do this on my own. I need to figure this out and I want to do this with Athena. I’ll need to focus and I know if you’re there I won’t be able to.” I admin, blushing. I can see a wicked grin peek up on his lips.

“You’re so dirty!” I exclaim, which causes him to soften his expression.

“Ok little one. I’ll let you go. You know how to reach us if you have any issues. I love you.”

“I love you too.”

We continue into the pack house and headed into the dining room, which was empty. I could smell chicken coming from the kitchen. Seeing me perk up, Lukas started mind-linking someone and then pointed to a chair.

“Sit, I’ll have Jorge bring us through some food that they served the rest today.”

I smile up at him and he takes a seat next to me. We sit for a few minutes discussing pack matters before Jorge comes through from the kitchen with two plates.

“Hello Alpha, Luna. Today we served roasted chicken. Please let me know if you need anything further.” He says and bows his head before ducking out the door.

I sit giddy in my seat, unable to stop myself from grabbing the cutlery from the table and dig in, earning a heartily laugh from Lukas next to me.

I look at him with a roast potato in my mouth and shrug my shoulders. I can’t help myself when I come to food. He chuckles and digs into his own food.

We finish up and after a few moments, Martha, one of the Omegas comes to take our plates away. I look over to Lukas who I can see is basically falling asleep on himself and decide that we should go to sleep.

“Come on my sweet. Let’s go up to sleep.” I say, placing my hand softly on his. He smiles at me and stands, bringing me up with him by the hand.

We make it to the top floor and enter it, heading straight for our room. As soon as we get in, Lukas starts stripping. I feel my face go red and I bite my lips, but decide against tempting him tonight. I instead watch him as he whips off his boxers and savour the view to memory.

“I’m going to go shower.” I say to him, and he nods and heads straight into the bed. I turn to the bathroom and close the door quietly behind me.

I sigh, wishing for all of my troubles to be exhaled away. I know we’ve got a fight ahead of us, but I wish for peace for a few days. I know being a Luna has a lot of responsibilities which I can work with and learn to cope with, as I feel I’m already doing, but all of this stuff with Gods and darkness and a war coming is fatiguing.

“It’s what we were born for Ali. You’ve come so far on your own and I have joined you now, making us stronger. We will learn what we need to, to control the powers we have. I’m sure we’ll find a way to unlock all of our powers also, Moon Goddess willing. If we struggle, then I’m sure she’ll send us a sign.”

“I know, I just wish we had more to go off of. I’m just feeling a bit overwhelmed. I hope we have enough time to figure out our powers before Fedori comes for us.”

I can feel her doubt slightly but even so, we’re in this together. We’ve been here a short time, and we’ve been a Luna for an even shorter amount. But this is my home. It feels like home. And we’re not about to just give in or give it up.

I head into the shower and clean up for the night. As I exit the bathroom, I can hear Lukas snoring softly, which places a smile on my face.

I head into the bed and snuggle up with him, causing him to sleepily place his arm around my body and adjusting slightly so he’s spooning me. He places his nose into my neck, exactly where his mark is and takes a deep breath, murmuring his love for me.

I start to fall asleep with a smile on my face, knowing where I belong.
