Chapter Fifty-two: First day
Seven days. That’s how long the heat lasted. My first week of Luna duties was spent in our bedroom, continuously doing the unmentionable. I didn’t even think it was possible to have sex that many times in such a short space of time. I think back over the last few days and I can only remember sex, sleep and eat and occasionally wash…although that also included sex. Not that I am really complaining about the time I spent with Lukas, or in ice cold baths or cool showers, the only time it was painful was the heat itself as it was very full on every time Lukas had to leave for an important meeting. We done the deed every time he came back, and shortly after I hounded him for information on what the meeting was about.
Today, I no longer feel the heat over my body, so I’ve decided to get stuck into my new role fully. As Luna, it’s my duty to know what’s happening in the pack, and I fully intended to do that, even when in heat.
The most important thing that happened a few days ago was the convoy with Lance leading it left to go and make peace and start trade routes with the communities outside, the biggest decision based on the outside world made by any Alpha for a very long time. For me, this is both exciting and worrying, remembering what I had seen out there.
After changing into some cute jeans and a Sunflower off-shoulder top, I leave our room on my own and ready to start the day. Lukas had already left for training so I’ve decided to get up and try and find Melinda who was continuing with the Luna duties temporarily whilst I…..felt better.
I didn’t know who stayed where until I asked Lukas. There are six floors to the pack house. The ground floor comprises of the kitchen, dining room, laundry room, planning and meeting rooms, and a lounge. The head omega Jorge, along with some of the other higher ranking Omegas live on the first floor. The second floor was home to the pack trainer, along with the Elders if they had wished, and the Elders children, if they had any. There were also a few guest rooms on this floor if ever needed. The independents of the ranked families, Mandy and Loretta lived on the third floor. The fourth floor was for the old Alpha and Luna. They’re dedicated a whole floor whilst the current Alpha and Luna are in charge, accommodating all of their work and effort of the previous years they were leaders. I smile at the lovely tribute. The fifth floor was for the Beta and Gamma families. The top floor was solely for Alpha and Luna. He also mentioned there was a bunker underground for emergencies, specifically catered for the Elderly, the young and the sick if ever required which could be accessed through a door located at the back of the house.
I get to Melinda’s room without issue and knock on the door. I hear some shuffling and the door opens.
“Hello darling, how are you this morning? It’s nice to finally see you!” She says with a bright smile.
I can’t help but blush in return. “I’m really sorry you had to do an extra week of tasks, but I’m up today and would like some help settling in?”
She takes a step out and closes her door behind her. “Of course, I’d be more than happy to help you set up! Let’s go to your office, shall we?”
I’m a bit taken aback…office? I didn’t even know I had one if I was being honest.
She leads me back up the stairs and up to the top floor. She waves for me to open the door. Lukas had my handprint added to the top floor touch pad so only he and I can enter via this method, everyone else can get a temporary approval if needed.
She takes me to the left side of the floor, one I’ve not ventured to as I’ve not needed to before. At the end of the left corridor, a door similar to the one that leads to Lukas’ office is present, and Melinda opens it for us to walk into a well-lit office. It’s fairly simple with an Oak desk, some book cases and a few chairs to the side of the room if I ever needed to hold a meeting.
Just as I’m taking a look around, I hear some steps and turn round to see Estelle and Nina.
Before I manage to ask, Melinda answers the question on my mind “I mind-linked them to come up. You’ve obviously already met Estelle and Nina, and well I hope you get on as well as I did with my ranked females. They will both be here, ready to assist where needed. You can delegate any tasks to them, as I had already been doing before you arrived and joined our pack. They’re well equipped, let’s say.”
I smile at them both. I did already know they were going to help me, and it’s good to know they already have been doing this for a while so I don’t feel as alone.
“So, first things first. Have you tried mind-linking anyone from the pack, bar Lukas?” Melinda says, pushing me off-guard slightly.
“No, I only remember everyone trying to mind-link me at the Luna ceremony but it was more one way, rather than back the way.” I say, trying not to state it was because I literally went into heat a few moments after.
“Ok, so maybe let’s give this a try then. Try and mind-link as many of the pack as possible. Don’t worry about them, they’re aware you’re new to this and they may get a message from you. When I was Luna, I was able to mind-link a few hundred wolves.” She says proudly with a slight smirk, then carries on. “Don’t worry if you can only mind-link a few wolves on your first try. Just think about mind-linking with me, then try to expand that to everyone in the area. Once you find your groove, you’ll do great!”
I turn to Estelle and Nina who are smiling enthusiastically. I think about what I want to say and take Melinda’s advice and try mind-linking her and then expanding on that.
“Hello Crescent Moon, this is Aliana, your packs new Luna. Apologies for the abrupt end to the ceremony last week, but I hope to catch up with you all asap. Have a great day!”
I felt like I broadcasted that to a lot of people but unsure on how many, but before I knew it I felt Lukas in my mind. “Great job little one. See you this afternoon.”
I look to Melinda and the ranked females and smile. I think all three got it which I feel proud of. They look pleased at that and we go on to different topics, mainly what the ranked females are currently delegated.
I find out that the Omega staff and their daily routines are currently handled by Estelle, the Beta female. Head Omega Jorge reports to her directly also. Any complaints that go to the Luna currently are filtered through Estelle. Nina, the Gamma female, helps the food and product circulation across the whole pack. As everything is free for the pack, she makes sure there is enough produce to go round and the pack can manage, even if there is a shortage on items.
We go through all the finer details and had breakfast in the office which consisted of some bacon, toast and eggs. I find that it’s just about lunchtime when we start to wrap up, ensuring that I’ve taken on as much as I can for now. Melinda will continue passing off tasks to me as the days come in, but eventually I will take over and will work with the ranked females independently.
We all head downstairs and into the dining room and I use my new found mind-linking skill to ask the head Omega to come in. I manage it without issues and leave open some communication for Jorge to respond and accept. A few moments later he pops through from the kitchen.
“Hello Luna, ladies. I hope everyone is well today. Are we looking to have some lunch?” He asks politely.
“Yes please Jorge. What’s being made for today?” I ask in return.
“Today we’ve got some fresh fish, salmon. The cooks are currently making some Honey garlic salmon along with some rice and fresh greens if it takes your fancy?”
I feel my mouth water as he describes the dish a bit more. “Yes please Jorge, that sounds delicious!”
The other ladies nod in agreement and Jorge bows before heading back into the kitchen.
We all discuss our jobs a bit further, then as food comes out we eat and during small openings we chit chat about shopping. I internally role my eyes and wonder where Mandy gets it from sarcastically as Melinda goes on about winter trends.
As we’re finishing up, I suddenly feel someone trying to mind-link me. I open my mind to hear Lukas addressing the whole pack.
“Pack warriors, section five, please head towards the Southern border. Dark smoke clouds have been spotted in the far distance and unknown POC can be seen. Everyone else please do not head out to the border.”
I look to Melinda. “Do we normally get involved in these types of things?”
She looks a bit hesitant. “Not usually. In my later years I would as I was trained but I’m not sure that’s a good idea for you as you’ve not been to any training sessions.”
I think about it for a few moments. She’s not wrong but I’ve also done a lot of training before reaching the pack borders.
I decide against her advice this time. I’ve got a strange feeling about this and a small thought pops into my head that it may have something to do with the convoy we sent out a few days ago.
I stand from the table. “I’m going to go. I won’t push too far but I have a feeling that this may be about the convoy.” Melinda gives me a small smile.
“Take care.”
I turn and start heading out the door and make my way outside. I decide to shift quickly so I can travel faster. Before I know it I see Estelle’s wolf Rue and Nina’s wolf Faith are beside me. I don’t ask why as I already know they’re to stay with me in times of distress, no matter my decision.
We race to the South side of the pack borders, taking about twenty minutes in a full out sprint to get there.
That’s when I see it. Ares giant body getting ready to lunge at Elijah who’s lying on the floor.
