Chapter Ninety-six: Fight, Part 2
We try to make sense of his words when we hear another crack to the side of the black box he’s encased us in. We look his way, unsure what’s happening.
That’s when we see it. We see light coming in from the outside. We feel the beating that someone is giving the dome from the outside, trying to get in.
After a few moments we see the outline of Ares, causing us to gasp. We can see him battering the dome, causing it to shake slightly, with us all inside. We look to Fedori who has a horrible smirk on, as if he knows what’s about to happen.
“Ares!” both Aliana and I shout in unison, but he continues to bash against the barrier as if he is unable to hear us.
We know something bad is about to happen, but we can’t reach our mate and he is unable to hear us.
That’s when everything happened too quickly. Ares smashes against the barrier one more time, causing it to crack apart, the darkness surrounding us opening up from the bottom to the top. He crashes through, his huge body pummelling to the floor. He looks up at us with a gleam in his golden eyes, probably thinking a thousand things at once and trying to work out what’s changed about us. He quickly takes us all in, our hair, eyes, and as we’re merged, the gleam emitting from our body.
We want to say something, but nothing comes forth from our mouth. We feel overjoyed that our mate is here with us, alive. Looking at him, he’s lost a lot of his weight and muscles are not as they once were. He looks very malnourished. He’s still massive, due to his mere structure, but we can tell he’s struggling to stand as it is. We look at him as he lies there, feeling like somethings wrong.
We see Fedori in the corner of our eyes create another item, similar to the spear we had created, but it was as black as night.
We shout to Ares in desperation. “Move!”
Ares stays where he is, and that’s when we realise. He can’t move. Him destroying the barrier and touching the exterior of it over and over must have paralyzed him.
We see Fedori raise his arm, and we watch, as if in slow motion, as he goes to throw the spear he made at Ares motionless body. We act quickly and move our hand his way, causing a sprout of fire to come out of our hand, colliding into the spear just before it reached Ares side, causing it to disintegrate.
We look to Fedori who’s smirk has dropped, realising that we summoned another one of our powers, albeit weaker than the water power we have access to.
We ignore his glance and look around. We can see the dark creatures not far from us, a small perimeter of all the different wolves, elves, vampires and witches around us, protecting us from what’s to come. We see, from the closest fighting to us, wolves fighting off the dark ones and a little water blob alongside them, blocking any moves and poking holes into the dark creatures they’re fighting against.
We catch Fleur, Melinda’s wolf’s eye and mouth to her to come and grab Ares. We mind-link her quickly.
“He’s paralyzed. Get him out of the way.”
We see Fleur run our way and grab her son by the scruff with her teeth. She drags him away and when we see them at a safer distance, we turn to face Fedori.
“Seems our mate is strong, and our will to keep each other alive, stronger.” We sneer at him, a look of disdain across his face.
He says nothing but instead moves in grace and creates a barrier around himself. He looks around the battlefield and I can tell he’s trying to see how far away his army was, probably wanting the extra bit of protection. His eyes land on Fleur, who is looking after Ares who is starting to move slightly again. We see a side smile peak on his lips, but it instantly vanishes as he looks to us.
“Don’t be so sure.” Is all he says before we hear a loud commotion behind us.
We turn to look at where Fleur and Ares is, seeing a large dark creature burst out of the ground a few meters away from them. We see Markus and some of the others rush to them, but before we get a chance to act on it, we feel a rumble coming from behind us.
Fedori has started gracefully moving which puts us off guard. He raises his arms and sways them. We watch him, unsure what he’s up to. That’s when we notice a barrier being created around the battlefield.
We don’t want to know what’s in store for us if he manages to complete it, so we bring our hands up to counter what he’s doing with the water from the lake. Instead of trying to block or move against the barrier he’s creating, we aim the load of water right above him. We bring it down harshly, hoping that it will put him off whatever he’s trying to do. However, as soon as it goes to hit him, it bounces off him, as if he’s created a small protection barrier around himself. We stand there, unsure what to try next. We assume he can’t do anything against us in that state, so we decide instead to use the water to protect everyone.
Our hands move as one, gently gliding the water from the lake and moving it across the battlefield in at a lower location to whatever it is Fedori is doing. We leave it there, hoping it will go against whatever it is he’s planning.
It’s not long before we find out. He looks to us with a wicked grin and we see little streams of dark light move down from whatever it is he’s created, poke through our barrier as if it were nothing, then attach itself to each of the dark creatures on the battlefield around us.
Looking around us, we see the dark creatures growing in size, becoming much larger than what they were originally.
“Your little parlour tricks won’t be of any use here.” He says menacingly. “It’s about time I wiped out your forsaken pack.
We growl at him. We turn to see our ranked members now fighting the hoard of darkness which had progressed much closer to us in a matter of seconds.
Fedori carries on. “Your pack is being wiped out by the hundreds. Perhaps you haven’t learned enough in time?” He says to us mockingly.
We send a prayer to Selene and wish for any guidance she could give to give it now. Perhaps she has an idea on how we can unlock our full potential.
We turn to face him and try to bring forth our fire ability. A puff of smoke protrudes from our hands but we can’t make much sense of it. Fedori laughs at us.
“Pitiful!” He says venomously.
We take a risky move, deciding to do what we did the first couple of times we tried to reach out water powers. We close our eyes and concentrate, trying to block out everything around us. We visualise a fire, burning like no other, high into the sky. We then try to harness it in our left hand.
It’s not long before we open our eyes to see a fire raging up our arm in a controlled sense. We turn out hand over and back again, coming to the realisation that we’re controlling it.
Just as we’re looking down, we hear running behind us. We turn quickly to see Fedori charging at us with another large black sword, however this one was different to the first. We have next to no time to react, even with the newfound ability we’ve just figured out. We try and bring forth water with our right arm but even then we know it will be too late.
We try to shield our body with what we have, knowing full well we’re about to get hit. That’s when we hear a thud, when we instead expected impact. We try and understand where we were hit but feel no pain, so we look up to Fedori who is sneering at the floor.
“Stupid mutt.” Is all we hear him say before his eyes are back on us, watching our reaction.
We look down and our eyes widen, vaguely hearing the screams of the others in the background. We drop to our knees, our mouth hanging open with unshed sobs. The fire raging on our left arm and we instantly summon the water on our right which starts cascading downwards.
Our big and beautiful Ares had got in between the blow that was meant for us. The sword, which has now faded into nothingness had cut through his chest, a clean blow going in the front and out the back. We could see the river of red pour out and onto the grass around him.
“Why….why Ares.”
“Little one....I will always protect you.” Is all he manages to mind-link before we hear his ragged breathing slow down rapidly.
We break down, tears running down our face. We look around us, seeing the closest to us, who were still fighting, struggling to come to terms with what they’ve just witnessed.
We hear the last breath come from Ares, who from that point on, breathed no more.
Athena and I feel the sobs ravishing our chests, unable to contemplate how fast everything’s just happened.
That’s when we feel it. Rage. We feel the rage savage through us, and, not wanting to contain it much longer, we look to the sky and scream our frustration. As we do, we feel ourselves part. I don’t realise what’s happening until I feel a part of me missing, realising that Athena has detached herself from me, my mind becoming my own once again.
I look to my left, and I see Athena in her wolf form separate from me.
She looks to me and I to her.
“It’s time we end this.” We say in unison.
