Chapter Forty-seven: Water

I didn’t even notice that Lukas had placed his hand on my shoulder, as I was deep in thought at what had just happened. The water mimicked, in its own way, my anger. I wanted to learn more but I also wanted to be cautious. How far could this go?

I slowly turn round to Lukas, who has a soft smile on his lips. I look at him, wondering what he’s up to. Before I ask, he gives the answer up easily.

“I’m sorry. I pushed a bit too much. I know you love me, and I’m sure whoever Elijah is, he was your friend. I wanted to push you as soon as you started getting upset to see what would happen.” He says as he waves his hand towards the water.

I’m angry at him, I dislike the fact that he tried to do something he probably shouldn’t have, but I’m also surprised that he did that to try and figure out what I was capable of. I look down to my hands which no longer have any water on, then I look to the lake.

I look at the water, which has since calmed down. The tiny ripples of the waves that are close to my feet not as thunderous as the seiche-like waves that were happening a few moments ago.

I bend down, once again and place my hands into the water. I focus all of my energy into the water which is around my hands. I lift my hands out of the water and try to focus on having the droplets circle my hands instead of dripping down and back into the lake.

I gasp, as exactly what I pictured in my head is happening. Instead of the drops of water sliding down my hand and back into the water, they instead detach from my hand and are instead floating around my hand, dancing and playing, merging and splitting. I play with them, pushing them mid-air with my finger which causes them to gently float away.

Before I get to play with the little drops more, my concentration is taken away by Lukas who gently takes my arm. “I think we should speak with the Elders.”

I sigh, and as I do the droplets fall back into the water. I understand wanting to speak to them about my powers but I don’t think they’re going to be able to help me with this.

“Unfortunately I don’t think they’re going to be able to help me here.”

“I would never expect them to. No one here has ever heard of someone being a direct child of any God, never mind two. I also very much doubt there’s anything about blessed wolves….except what we’ve seen in that book.”

He’s right, and I know it. The Elders may not know much about what I am, but they are the packs Elders none the less. I respect them and the knowledge they have to give, so it’s only right we speak to them and tell them what’s happened so far.

“Before we go, can I try something?” I ask, looking back at him, a bizarre idea lighting up my mind.

He smiles at me. “Of course. Let’s see what you can do.” He helps me up by using the hand currently on my arm.

I smile at him, glad that he wants me to test my new found abilities. I look to the water of the lake, and try and place all of my concentration to a section that is a bit further in. I try to imagine the water being pushed up from underneath. I try to think of something under the water that could be building pressure.

I find that a small head of a bubble appears on the surface I am trying to work with, but I’m unable to push it up. I place my hands in front of me and try and use those as guidance for the water, trying to make it see I am trying to force it up.

I see the water is rolling down the bubble top I have made but I am unable to do much more. I start to get a bit agitated and before I get a chance to think on it further, I hear Lukas chuckle behind me.

“Is that it?”

Before I get a chance to turn around and curse him, the pressure under the bubble I had made burst, and a geyser shot up from the point I was concentrating on, several feet into the air.

I instantly jump and fall back onto my ass, getting a massive fright from the noise and what I had just seen with the water. The water then dispersed all around us, spraying us with water from the lake. I heard a small laugh from Lukas and turn round to glare at him.

“I’m sorry little one. I think you needed a bit of a push.”

I squint my eyes at him, not liking the enjoyment he’s getting out of it. Before I get a word in, we hear someone heading our way from the direction we came.

We both turn our heads round to see Elder Irish, slightly out of breath. I smile at the thought of him just watching that display and wondering what is going on.

He points to the water where the sprout had shot out. “What in the name of the Moon Goddess was that?” He was unable to contain the shock from his voice.

“That, was our own Luna learning about her gifts that have been given to her.” Lukas says, taking a step towards me and lending me his hand to help me up.

“Hold on, I’m not Luna just yet. Let’s wait till after the ceremony, shall we?” I say to them both, whilst taking Lukas’ hand to get me up.

“Actually Alpha, Aliana, that’s what I’m here for.” Elder Irish says whilst looking between me and the Lake, evidently unsure how to take in what he just witnessed. He clears his throat and continues. “We’re going to do the ceremony tomorrow, unless there’s any objections?”

That seems a bit quick, I’ve had no time to prepare or look into anything. “Is that not a bit….”

“It’s perfect. I assume it will be just before lunch?” Lukas asks, cutting me off entirely.

“Yes, as any other Luna ceremony has been held. And as usual, we’ll do it in front of the pack house.” Elder Irish confirms.

“Thank you Elder Irish, you may leave.”

Elder Irish bows his head, but doesn’t head away just yet. I look to Lukas who raises his eyebrow at the Elder.

“I’m sure Aliana and I can come and have a chat with the Elders as soon as we can. We’ve got some talking to do ourselves.” He says whilst looking at me.

Elder Irish’s lips quirk up into a small smile, before he bows his head and starts racing back the way he came. I instantly look back to Lukas as soon as the Elder has vanished from sight and give him the best glare I can muster.

“Why did you tell him tomorrow is ok? I’ve not had a chance to research anything about being a Luna, I know nothing of what the ceremony is or what I’m meant to do, I don’t know what to wear, I..”

“Let me stop you right there Aliana.” Luka says as he gets as close as possible to me, enough so I can feel his breathing on my forehead as he pulls me into a hug. I embrace him back, and take in a deep breath of his scent.

“First, you don’t need a rule book, or anything that goes over how to be a Luna. You already know what you’re doing and where you want to go, so just go with it. Any tips or pointers you need, you can ask my Mother.“ He says, pointing it out as if it were facts.

“Next, you have your ranked females to guide and they in turn will follow you no matter what. You already know what the ceremony comprises of, or have you forgotten?” He smirks at me.

I stand up straight. “No, I know that it involves a blood oath, like you told me before I shifted. But you never went into specifics.”

He stiffened a bit, possibly thinking about when I shifted last not everything turned out great. He composed himself however and took my hand into his own, then used his other hand to draw and invisible line across my palm. “This is where the Elders will cut you with a very old knife, one that has been passed down since the very first wolf our Moon Goddess created….or so it’s said. They will do the same with me. When the line is drawn, and the blood has spilled, we will place our sliced hands together, welcoming you not only into our pack, but also in as our Luna.”

I know he’s not wrong about any of it, but I still feel uneasy that all of this is happening tomorrow. It only felt like yesterday I had rolled into the pack hospital and had met Lukas, but for him, it’s been weeks. I make a mental note to speak to Melinda about the Luna’s duties, or at the very least, what I should focus on when I start.

I shake my thoughts away for now, posting them at the back of my mind. “Let’s go home. We need to let everyone know it’s tomorrow the ceremony will be taking place.”

Lukas shows me his billion-watt smile and pulls me in for another hug, inhaling my scent and then pulling me into him for a kiss. I can’t help but bring my hands up to the sides of his and deepening the kiss, craving for more. We pull away from each other, both of our breathing hitches, before we go too far out here by the lake.

“Let’s go, little one.”
