Chapter Forty: Blessed children

I gasp slightly, and I can see Lukas on a defensive stance unsure what just happened as well. We both look at the book which hasn’t moved at all since, but evidently the buckle has just come undone by a drop of my blood that just came from my thumb.

I look over to him as he’s still eyeing the book cautiously. “I think we should take it to the Elders.” He says firmly.

“For what? They didn’t know how to open it, I’m unsure they’ll be able to help much.” I disagree with him.

I don’t bother waiting for a response, I carry the book over to the desk towards the entrance of the room and place it down. I look back at Lukas who is still standing in the same spot, a bit unsure.

“Are you going to come over here and see?”

He finally moves his eyes away from the book and looks to me. He sighs slightly but relaxes a bit as well.

“Yes.” Is the only response I get from him as he starts to move over towards me. He stands to my left as I move to open the book.

I flip open the book cover and the leather book front is fairly heavy. The first page is seemingly hand written, and the huge title reads ‘Children of the kingdom of Eos’.

My eyes widen at those six words. Lukas looks to the page and then back at me and I can that somethings not adding up to him.

I stand there, a bit baffled for a few moments, then I turn to him.

“Do you know what the Kingdom of Eos is?” I don’t believe I mentioned it to him when telling him what happened when I was in the lake.

He shakes his head, obviously unsure.

“It’s where the deities live…or dwell, I’m unsure what they do there or what it is, but I know that is where they come from. The Moon Goddess told me.

His eyes widen slightly at my words and I turn back to the book, moving past the front page.

I see a language I don’t understand consisting of strange symbols, and I look to Lukas as he understands my silent question and he slowly shakes his head showing he also doesn’t understand the words on the page.

I slowly flip through the pages, and every so often I see a word in huge writing at the top of a page, which I am guessing is a name. A name of the children of the Gods.

I continue to look through, and I notice the words, or well characters of each words change the further on we read. I suspect the language is changing between whoever is writing these. I then start to get to the middle of the book where the words are becoming more familiar.

I spot a few words here and there that are familiar, ‘familia’, ‘vento’, ‘terra’, and I can see the language change into the common tongue, or at least several words in the page below following the name are understandable.

I start to read over a name, called Nuria. And I recognise a few more words but not much. It seems to go onto say that she is born from a Deity named Scotus and an unnamed mortal. It seems she can create some sort of teleport but I’m unable to understand much more.

I flip through the rest of the pages containing information about Nuria. I look to the next page and I hold my breath as my hand whips up to my mouth containing a gasp.

‘Aliana DeMuir’.

I whip my head to Lukas whose mouth has dropped open. I look back at the page and read on.

It contains information about my birth place, my real and adoptive parents, Athena, my chosen mate Lukas, the places I’ve travelled to, the planet I live on…I couldn’t believe my eyes at what I was reading.

I look through the rest of the pages which were blank, all the way till the end of the book. I sigh as I now have a hundred more questions. How did the chapter of me get placed in there if the book’s not been opened in decades, perhaps centuries? How was I able to open it when those before me could not?

I close the book and pick it up, looking to Lukas who was deep in thought. “We need to go see the Elders.”

Lukas continues to gawk at the book, his mouth still wide open as if in shock. I wave my hand in front of him to get his attention. “Lukas?”

He shook his head clawing out of his haze. “Yes, let’s go, we should try and get some answers.”

I don’t wait up, I take his hand and start pulling him towards the exit, placing the book under my arm. We leave the room and I lock the door behind us, passing the key back to Lukas. I then re-take his hand, and march towards the Library entrance. It seems to start raining lightly outside, so I ensure the book is concealed under my arm so it doesn’t get wet. As soon as we pass through the doors, I walk directly towards the Elders without a second thought.

I go up to the door and chap on it fairly loudly. In a few seconds, Elder Irish comes to the door, opens it and motions for us both to walk through. I look at him as I pass through the door half expecting him to ask why we’re here, but he doesn’t.

I walk through to the room we were sat in last time, and I can see Elder Wright stoking the giant fireplace, and Elder Wyatt sitting on a stool around the large table.

They both look to me and as they do, Elder Wright and Irish both move to take a seat at the table. I sit down, and Lukas goes to sit next to me.

“Hello Elders, I hope you’re well and I’m not interrupting your day?” I ask, as politely as possible but unable to hide the urgency to my question.

“We’ve been expecting you to come round at some point Aliana. We hear you’ve got a lot to share.” Elder Wright says, whilst looking at me quizzically.

I move the large book from under my arm and bang it onto the table, not meaning to put so much weight behind it. Elder Irish’s eyes widen slightly at the book, noticing that the buckle has come undone.

“How did you- “ He starts, but I cut him off.

“I’m sorry Elder, may I?” I ask respectfully as possible. He nods his head, and they all look at me, their expressions courteous, but invested.

I give them a full run down on what happened to me as soon as I jumped off that cliff. The meeting with the Moon Goddess and the Sun God, the information and advice I was given from them, and then what happened as soon as I was brought back. I then went into detail of what’s just happened in the library in the section that was off limits to all except them and Lukas. I then pushed the book over to them.

“So, as you can see, it seems my blood has opened it, and it shows us a list of…names. Names of each of the children of the Gods and Goddesses of the kingdom of Eos. Do any of you know about these, or why my name is in here even though the book has not been opened here for centuries?” I finish, a bit tense, waiting for their response.

The whole time through my breakdown, Elder Irish and Wright nodded, shook their head, and their expressions changed from nothing, to surprise, to a frown and back and forth. From what I could tell, they understood some things, but others just perplexed them. The only Elder who didn’t make any movement or expression during my explanation was Elder Wyatt, who simple stayed stony-faced through the entire thing.

“I’ve never heard of any other God or Goddess other than the Moon Goddess. Or the Kingdom of Eos. Or there being any children.” Elder Irish says, and Elder Wright follows up with him.

“I’m in the same mind set of Elder Irish, Aliana. I’ve also not heard or seen any of this….are you sure it’s accurate? It could be coincidence?” Elder Wright says and I can’t help but shoot a dirty look at him. Before I can say anything, Elder Wyatt finally stands.

“I believe her.”

The other Elders, and Lukas snap their heads to him. I watch him as he stands.

“The Kingdom of Eos is real, but not much else is known about it or has been passed down, other than there are other deities that reside there. I can’t say for sure that everything Aliana has said, seen or heard is true, but from the pieces she has found or has been told, some of it is factual and not many people know about it. We only really speak of the Moon Goddess as she is our patroness, no other deity needs to be known.
For someone who didn’t know she was a werewolf, did not fully know our ways, to come here and give a thorough breakdown of something’s only I know of or have been told about, and in addition the book that has not been opened in a millennia opened as soon as her blood touch it, is a powerful message we should not ignore.”

We all looked to Elder Wyatt who was looking to Aliana sternly. Elder Irish scoffs, and we all look to him.

“I’m unsure about everyone here, but doesn’t this all seem a bit….too much? I’m not sure if any of this is real, no matter what has been passed down. Surely not all of it is factual.”

At that moment, the sky went dark and the thunder roared angrily above, matched with an angry lightening streak across the sky. The rain suddenly started bucketing it down. We felt a boom from thunder and then as we look out the window a bolt of lightning, seemingly made of fire shot at the window, creating a small mark.

I get up and walk towards the small window and smile slightly. It was a very small image of the Sun and Moon right next to each other.
