Chapter Eighty-five: The last
I wake up the next morning with a start, finding myself drenched in sweat. I have no doubt that these dreamless nights where I wake up like this is because my bond is shouting at me that there’s something wrong with Lukas. I can feel Athena shake with rage when we wake like this, but she stays silent and says nothing.
I get up, and look at Elijah who is sleeping. I think Nuria has also slept just for the sake of it as well as she doesn’t stir when I sit up. I decide to head to the shower to wash up. I think about how lucky we must be that we’ve come across this coven of vampires who are so willing to help. I think back to all those years ago when no vampire would help me, and I remember learning that vampires don’t get along with any species, apart from certain exceptions.
After I finish cleaning myself I wake Elijah and Nuria up, allowing them to clean themselves up too. It doesn’t take long before we have our bags packed and we’re ready to hit the road again.
I see Troy at the edge of the vampire’s grounds waiting at the gate for us. He waves us over and waits for us to reach him.
“I can’t offer you anything as I have nothing more to give, however you have my word that over the coming days we’ll travel to our known vampire aliases to ask them to join us. Just let us know where and when, and we’ll be there.”
He’s looking at Nuria specifically and I see her nod at him in response.
“Thank you for your hospitality, Troy. We’ll see you soon…..be ready.” I say adamantly and he nods in response.
He sends a signal to someone atop the gate and they open it, allowing us to walk out.
We wave our goodbyes to troy and head on our way.
Three weeks go by, where we come across nothing. I try and remember land-marks but I’m unsure as I continue to look at my surroundings. I start to get frustrated.
“I don’t understand why we’ve not come across them yet.” I say, standing up.
Elijah sighs. “I don’t even know what it is you’re looking for. Are you sure it’s on the coast?”
I’ve not told Elijah or Nuria what it is I’m after, as I didn’t believe it myself all those years ago. But I huff anyway.
“We should come across them soon.” Is all I say and I hear Elijah and Nuria sigh.
We set up camp for the night and it’s not long before Elijah falls asleep. Nuria decides to teleport away to grab some food. I lay awake, watching the night sky above me. I twist and turn to no avail, I just can’t sleep.
I stand up and walk towards the sea. We’ve several hundred feet above the sea on top of a cliff. I sit close to the edge and just take a deep breath.
I think over the last few weeks and who we’ve spoken to. We’ve come across a few witches and a small group of vampires, as well as a few elves who were of the adventuring kind. All agreed to help us without a whim, knowing what would happen if they didn’t.
However, although I am incredibly grateful, they’re not what I’ve been looking for.
I place my face in my hands and wipe the grime down my face. I feel exhausted, but I’m unable to sleep. I can feel Athena in the back of my head trying her best to rest but she is also restless. We need Lukas.
I decide to let out some steam by playing with the water down below me. I use my mind to bring up a fountain of water and play with it in front of me, hoping that I can make use of my restlessness by training my powers with my mind. At the very least I hope it helps me sleep.
I play with the water in front of me for a while, trying to add more water as I go. I try and concentrate on adding a few more streams but try to keep them separate from each other which I’ve found over the last few weeks it’s getting easier to do.
As I play, I don’t realise the ground is shaking slightly. That’s until I notice a small pebble to my left starts quivering. I instantly disconnect from the water and it runs down back towards the sea.
I stand, feeling the earth vibrate beneath my feet. I look around, trying to figure out where it’s coming from or what is causing it, but I see nothing. That’s when I see it appear over the cliff edge.
A large hand grabbing hold of the edge of the cliff, as if being asked to help it up. I stand my ground, unsure if this is a trick. A few moments later, I see another hand, then another. A few hands reaching over the top. I start to take a few steps back, the hands are huge, I’d not like to envision what’s further up the arms.
It’s not long before I see the rest of the bodies attached to these hands pull themselves up over the cliff edge. I give them a good look before realising it’s what I’ve been looking for.
I remember a long time ago seeing them from a distance, but nowhere near this close before. I remember them being in legends but seeing them this close up proves that they were in fact real and I wasn’t seeing things.
I see the beautiful Geodras climb up and stand in front of me. They move fairly slowly and so I’m not surprised it took them all a few minutes to stand up after pulling themselves up. There were seven in total.
I stand in front of them, as they stand still and seemingly look at me. They look fairly human, however their shell looks as hard as rock and their skin glimmered like crystals. They were twice the size of me, very tall and I had to look up to see their faces, which again were just covered in various rocks and crystals. I can’t see if they have eyes or where they were looking, so I was unsure if they even knew I was here. Well….I suspect they do know I am here but it’s difficult to tell what they’re doing. I feel nothing come off of them.
“You are the chosen one.” I hear one of them say in a deep, echoing voice. I gasp, unable to contain my surprise that they can speak my language.
I say nothing, unsure as to what they’re referring to. That’s when the largest of them walks forward and bends down on one knee in front of me, what seems to be their face in front of mine.
“You are the daughter of both Sun and Moon.” It says, matter-of-factly.
“Yes.” Is all I can manage to say in a small voice, due to being stunned at their presence.
“We knew you would come. We’ve waited a millennium for you.”
“W…Why?” I stutter, unsure what they mean.
“We will fight your war. Then you will set us free.” The leader says.
I furrow my brows. “How?” I realise I’m asking one worded questions, but they seem to answer well enough.
“You will break us from our encasement. We were once the blue giants of old. Then we were encased into this indestructible stone. Once he is gone, you will free us.”
I think over what they’ve just said. Indestructible? How would I be able to break it then.
I look to the Geodras who are standing behind the leader and they’re just still there, not having moved an inch. I look back to their leader, who is still on one knee in front of me, I assume waiting for a response.
“I will promise to do what I can, however I have never done what you’ve asked before. If I can do it, then I shall.”
That seemed to be enough for the leader, as they stood up, moving a step back from me.
“That is all we ask. Your next task is to find the dark one. He must be taken out.”
I nod my head. “I understand this much. He has my mate. I don’t know how to get to him though.”
The leader once again speaks, pointing towards where I came from. “The daughter will be able to find him. Give her this.”
The Geodra leader reaches behind their head and slowly pulls forth what looks like a dark black rock.
“This is obsidian. It is the rock of darkness. It can bring the dark one immense power…..it can also destroy him.”
The Geodra places the rock in front of me gently and I walk a few steps ahead to pick it up. It feels lighter than it looks.
I look up to them. “Thank you. I will give this to her.”
“We will leave now. We will be where we are needed.” The leader says, then they start to go back where they came from, scaling the cliff edge down the way. I peek over the edge and see them slowly descent the cliff till they reach and enter the sea below.
I walk back to the camp site with the obsidian in my hands. I look at Nuria who is still sleeping peacefully so I decide to keep a hold of it till we wake up. I tuck it in my sleeping bag with me, feeling the rough edges against my skin.
I lie down and snuggle into my sleeping bag, finding myself drifting off to sleep, hoping for a peaceful start.
