Chapter Thirty-three: Who I am

It seems like forever Athena and I were falling, and we didn’t quite realise how much of a drop it was from the cliff.

We finally reach the lake, and instead of hitting the water surface hard and possibly being knocked out from the fall, we dive in perfectly, snout first. We felt a slight slap to our face which caused some shock, but nothing as serious as what we thought would happen from such a height.

What was frightening though, is we allowed ourselves to start sinking towards the bottom. Before we realised, there was some sort of current in the lake, which started to pull us away from the cliff edge.

The water besides the cliff was dark, darker than what it was when we went to the bottom last time we were in the lake. Even with our enhanced sight in our wolf form, we were still unable to see much.

“Aliana….I….I can’t move.” Athena says, panicked. I picked up on her fear and realised that it felt like we had been paralysed.

“How did that happen? Was it from the fall? It didn’t even feel that bad!” I said, my fear starting to dig deep, not liking the thought of drowning when I know we’re both good swimmers.

We wait there for our fate to happen. It seemed like hours we were there, drifting around the bottom of the lake.

We then suddenly felt like we were being pulled, as if our body was dragged towards something. We then started to see a small light, as if we were in a tunnel. Both Athena and I tried to force our limbs to move, to pull away from it, but after a few moments, we stopped, knowing it was useless. Perhaps this is our end, and we will be taken to our Moon Goddess to meet our human family once again.

The light started getting closer and closer, until Athena couldn’t keep her eyes open anymore as it was too bright. Athena closed her eyes as we descended into….the light?

Before we knew it, we felt a sort of snap. I felt strange going from numbness to fully feeling everything. I instantly opened my eyes and looked down, noticing I was naked and in my own human body. I brought my hand up to my eyes and rubbed them trying to figure out where I was and why I was not in Athena’s body.

I looked to my left and could see Athena, in her wolf form, separated from me. She had been rubbing her paws over her eyes. She looked back at me, and I could hear her in my mind.

I look around us and we’re in a sort of field, which only consists of grass. I can see the grass plains go on forever in every direction. I don’t see a horizon, I see no sun. The sky is bright as if there was one though. I stand there, confused.

“Where are we? Why are we not together?” She says, panicking, whilst trying to make sure her legs, paws and tail were working after not being able to feel them.

I continue trying to look around us until I notice in the far distance in front of me two figures are slowly approaching. Athena and I start to slowly shuffle back, but then Athena stops and stands her ground, sniffing the air.

“Aliana. Don’t move. I think these people won’t hurt us….trust me”

I hesitate as I have no idea how she knows that, but I move closer to her, standing by her side, placing my hand on her head protectively. I trust my wolf, and will stay with her till the end, even after death.

As the figures get closer, I can see they’re humans. Or at least have the same figure as them. One of them looks to be a woman, and as they get closer, I have no doubt about my suspicion as I see their human-like attributes.

As they got close enough to us that we could see them, I gasp slightly. The woman was breath-taking and I had never seen or witnessed anything as beautiful as her. Her silver-like eyes looked like the Moon we had seen that night at the ceremony, and I could see they shined like the Moon too.

She had crystal-like silvery hair which was continuously waving down to her waist and the movement it portrayed was like a running waterfall. Her full lips formed a smile and eased my mind of fear instantly. She was not naked fully, but the dress she wore looked like water that was always moving, swishing around her body. It seemed to represent she was one with the Moon and water.

I then looked to the individual next to the woman, who was evidently a man. He was extremely toned and muscular, as if he had been working out all his life, never missing out a day. His eyes were a bright orange, similar to that you’d see on a flame, with tones of red, blue and a small bit of purple. He wore what looked like molten lava and flames rising from it, dancing around his body and covering his dignity.

Both the man and woman wore what looked like a wreath on their heads. The leaves used for the wreath I had never seen before, green and encrusted in gold and intertwined with green, red, blue and orange coloured gems. There was a symbol on the woman’s headpiece, which looked like the full Moon. The Man had a symbol that looked like the Sun.

They started to get very close, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable, although all my fear had dispersed. I wonder if we were dead and this was the way to heaven?

“Do not worry. We only wish to talk and provide knowledge.” The woman said seemingly reading my mind. She sang the words to us as if she were playing a song, her voice aligning with the sweetest songs known to our world.

I don’t move away, instead I am curious to find out who they are, where we are, and why we’re here. Athena has not moved since we landed here, so I move my arm over her back, not wanting to go anywhere without her but also wanting to continue to protect her with my life if needed. I can feel her muscles tensed, but she’s not in an attack mode, more just cautious.

The woman smiles lovingly, and moves her gaze from me to Athena. “Do you know who I am little one?”

Athena thinks for a second. “I think so. Are you the Moon Goddess?”

The woman smiles, and the man next to her looks proud. They look at each other and then back at us.

I feel Athena instantly release the tension when she sees this reaction, her tail wagging slightly. I smile softly and release the tension I had built up as well, knowing that if Athena feels safe, I can feel safe with her.

“Yes little wolf. I am more commonly known as the Moon Goddess. I have also been known by many other names that you may have heard of back in the Mortal world. Possibly such as Lunaris and Selene. I am one and the same, I am them and they are me.” She says cryptically through her melodic voice.

I look at her and I have no doubt that she is who she says she is. Was it her that was calling us? A million questions start to go through my head. I felt confused for a moment, but the Moon Goddess then looks to the man, who is looking directly at me with the continued smirk on his face.

He places his fist on his chest. “I am most commonly known as the Sun God. The other names mortals have given to me include Solaris and Helios.” He says, his voice very deep that it makes my ears feel strange.

They both stand there, the Sun God looking at me, and the Moon Goddess looking at Athena.

Athena and I turn to each other, reading our eyes. We both are thinking the same thing.

We both, at the same time and as if we’re thinking the same thing, ask a question at the same time.

“Why are we here?” Our voices say in unison, but we didn’t dare move an inch. I also found that I was using no energy here, it felt easy to just stand without tiring out.

We both stand without moving, not finding it strange at all that we thought and spoke the same words at the same time, as we had both had the same thought process, being so much like each other. I start to notice and understand that wherever we are now, we’re still connected, even though just now it’s not by body, which is a lingering thought in the back of my mind.

A silence dawned over the four of us, as we all stood there after we asked the question. The two deities just started at us, not saying a thing.

Athena and I looked at each other, a bit unsure as to what we were waiting for. That’s when the Moon Goddess made a very subtle movement.

As the Sun God continued to look at me, the Moon Goddess moves her eyes to me.

“My love. We are here to let you know that you are special. Not in a small way, No. We also need to part some information to you and your chosen wolf.”

I look to Athena who looks back at me. I can tell she’s also unsure what the Moon Goddess means. I look back to the spectacular woman in front of us, who then goes on to drop the biggest bombshell I’ve ever witnessed.

“Aliana, we are your natural parents.”
