Chapter 20 - Just Friends
The news of Alice's terminal cancer soon spread through the Smith family, and just the mention of the name made Janet's face look bad.
After a few words of pity from the side, Janet's face sank, only thinking that they had deliberately come to humiliate them.
Leonard came in from outside and heard about the incident, but he was not very emotional, just a little unimpressed.
In the case of the Smith family, Alice was only a person of little or no value, and only when there was something to do would Alice's value come out.
When he heard about this matter, he just quickly put it behind him and didn't pay much attention to it.
Just came idle will go to see, through the window to see the people inside, they do not feel anything.
Edward came out of his office, he had also heard of Leonard, and now that he saw him coming, he walked straight over.
"Mr. Smith." He called out, pulling over his attention.
Leonard sized up the man for a moment before looking at him in disbelief, "What can I do for you?"
Edward stated his intention straight away, "I'm sure you've heard about Miss Smith's matter, at present Miss Smith is looking for a suitable bone marrow match, I wonder if you can help."
Leonard was silent. This was a bit surprising to Edward, but it was not good for him to say anything more about other people's affairs.
"You, as her father, can you really bear to just watch her die helplessly?" He asked him with another smile.
Leonard gave him a look, the words were a little uncomfortable to hear, but after thinking about it, after all these years, there was some bonding. He couldn't help but feel compassion now.
"I will arrange for someone from the Smith family to come over to do the test, as to whether we can find the right one, we don't know."
Edward was delighted at his words, and only felt that Alice was saved. The gaze on Leonard was also much gentler.
When Susan came over, he told her about this matter.
The latter shook her head, unable to deny it.
"We always have to see if there's a miracle." Edward couldn't help but feed her a mouthful of chicken soup, and the latter glanced at him with her afterglow, her mind sinking.
Susan came over to visit as usual, sitting next to Alice every afternoon when she was awake and chatting with her.
Alice looked at her quietly and suddenly smiled and said, "Thank you very much."
"Thank you for what." She looked up at her and then concentrated again on the apple in her hand.
Alice smiled and didn't say anything, she was the first person who had been so kind to her for so many years, her heart was somewhat touched and she had actually developed some feelings of dependence.
Susan's kindness to her was not without reason. It was just that she felt a little guilty for having met someone for the first time, someone that even God didn't like.
"Nah, here you go." She handed the apple over and peeled another for herself. She had come over these past few days, just in case she was bored. And after this time of getting to know her better, Susan realized that she really had very few friends.
No one came to visit her, and no one cared about her. All eyes were on Tony and the Smith family's eldest daughter, and this poor woman was left to fend for herself.
"Your father had a bone marrow match, and I guess the results will be out in a few days."
She told Alice the news, and then saw her fall silent.
There was too much going on here that she didn't understand and didn't have the means to understand.
Susan couldn't help but speak again, "Well, by the way. That Richard is now looking for you at the ends of the earth, I told him you were here and he asked about your situation, he seems to be very worried about you."
At the end, looking at her face. When I didn't see her blush, I was a little disappointed, so I asked, "I think he's treating you well."
Alice smiled bitterly, "He's just a friend."
"I think if you survive, you should think about him." She warned, and felt bad again. Stealing a glance at her face, she was relieved to see no reaction from her.
She had been so impatient with that Richard these past few days that it had made her want to move house. It would take her a long, long time to get used to it.
Now that she had spoken to him, he did not bother him anymore.
On the other hand, Tony was so busy with Kathy these days that he forgot that there was an original wife lying in the ward.
When she thought of Kathy, she couldn't help but be angry. She was always talking about Tony, fearing that she didn't know how much love they had for each other.
Just thinking about it, she couldn't help but sneer.
"What's wrong with you?" Alice looked at this odd smile of hers and was somewhat puzzled.
The latter immediately put it away and smiled gently, "It's nothing, you take a good rest. I still have a scene to shoot tonight, I'll see you tomorrow."
……
"Mmm ......" Alice sat up and watched her leave the place.
Alice suddenly felt like Susan had come to save her on purpose. To give her warmth, to give her something to lean on. To keep her from being too cold and lonely in these last few months of her life.
