Chapter 9 - Letting go
She pursed her lips and looked back at these people.
Mr. Smith had not spoken up before because he was in Tony's way. The future of the Smith family all rested on the two sisters, but now it seemed.
Only Kathy was the most suitable, and Tony's heart was also in Kathy's body. As for Alice, he took one look and his brow furrowed slightly.
Mrs. Smith saw the situation and gave a light hum, "But being the president's wife already put us all out of sight, this wait for Kathy to be alone in the future, are you going to bully little Cathy again."
……
"No...... not." She hastily denied, while froze for a moment not knowing what she should say again. Blinking, a pair of bewildered eyes crossed from one to the other of their faces.
……
These people, still going on ......
Mr. Smith also followed and spoke, not even giving her a look, "Not what, Cathy this kindly and kindly gave you a dish, she didn't even eat it herself before caring for you. You still don't appreciate it?"
……
"No ...... not." Her voice weakened, she looked at the bowl and gritted her teeth, "I'll eat."
She finally moved her chopsticks and swallowed all of that meat in one gulp. Then she secretly squeezed her hand to suppress the desire to spit it out.
When Kathy saw that she had finally moved her chopsticks, she immediately became more attentive to her, serving her dishes, all of which were large fish and meat, which she ate with great difficulty under their noses.
Although her stomach was already bursting with pain, Tony looked at her with cold eyes, a little jealous, "Eat all of this."
Kathy smiled at his words and chucked one with him. Only then did he feel better. The rest was easy, as Alice ate the rice with no expression on her face.
When the meal was over, she suddenly got up and faked a smile, "I still have some work to finish, so I'll leave first. I won't bother you guys anymore."
Tony was indifferent, he knew this was an excuse, so he didn't say anything either.
Mrs. Smith was also eager for her to leave in a hurry, her face was sullen and she couldn't help but sarcastically say, "Alice you are really a big show-off, Tony, as the president, hasn't even seen to be as busy as you are."
She smiled and moved her gaze from Mrs. Smith to Tony's body, Tony being the president was good, being busy was also good. Not as busy as her, who spent all day drinking with people, and Alice did not retort, pretending to look at Mrs. Smith with a difficult look.
The latter waved her hand, eager to sweep her off her feet immediately.
Mr. Smith didn't bother to look at her either, the difference between having her there and not having her there was only whether she was useful or not. Now that Kathy was back, the company's payment would soon arrive.
As soon as Alice received the response, she left the room, the smile on her face turning into a sneer, a hint of hatred flashing in her eyes.
The food she had eaten finally came out. She held onto the trunk of the tree, wishing she could spit out everything in this air pocket, then she would probably be relieved.
Holding onto the tree, she wiped her mouth off. There was no longer any feeling in her stomach, which was rapidly deflating with the loss of food to support it.
She looked in the direction of the light coming through that window and felt nothing but an inexplicable feeling in her heart. The phone rang.
Tony had sent her a message, as if to punish her for her sudden departure, asking her to put together the annual statement for this decade.
There was no reply, and she took the phone back. The expression on her face sorted itself out and she returned to her usual calm demeanor.
Nothing had happened before; nothing had happened to her. It was as if this was what she really looked like.
Nothing that had happened in the past two years had managed to make him change his mind, and the next few days were even more unlikely.
Alice took the water she had bought from the twenty-four-hour convenience store and looked despondently at the sky. She didn't have much time to stay here anymore. She liked Tony, but she couldn't forget him even now because of an obsession she had back then.
After all these years, that obsession has worn away the last vestiges of patience in her heart.
She loved Tony, but she loved her own life more. In the same way she began to understand that to love someone who could never love herself was merely to inflict a torture from which she could never escape.
So her getting cancer was just a case of this God looking the other way.
She figured out that everything was the same.
So not liking it anymore, not loving it anymore, to let it go.
A sip of cold water went in and her whole body cleared up. She slapped her face and began to prepare to go back to the office to stay up late. And later write a divorce settlement.
It was time for her to leave this place and find a place where no one knew her to love herself, and as for Tony, she could only pray that the person he liked would also simply like him for himself.
Having thought of these things, she felt a lot more relaxed. Unprecedentedly, she turned the car vaguely on and got high along with it. At the moment, she just wanted to be happy, not sad and upset.
The tears in her eyes were wiped dry and she curled her lips pleasantly, as if she saw her future.
The car drove smoothly down this road, as they passed together in that direction.
