Chapter 8 - The Smith Family

She wiggled her lips, wanting to say with him that she was too sick to go. Wanted to explain, to tell the whole thing from beginning to end, but looked at them.
The will to tell was lost. Alice was no longer Alice, she was Tony's wife, Tony's subordinate and Tony's pawn.
He had given an order, and she naturally had to accept it.
"I'll go." She answered indifferently, and then added, "Then you must promise to give me half a day's leave."
She didn't say why, and Tony wouldn't pursue the matter, so he naturally agreed. Kathy's face was filled with joy, and she immediately cried for joy, "Great, Alice can come, so our family can be reunited."
Alice listened, inexplicably sour, the corners of her mouth pulled a smile.
Of course, they had been reunited, and he was just an outsider.
When the car arrived at the Smith family, Tony led Kathy inside. The first thing that happened was that they were not able to help.
They only had eyes for Kathy, who was being held by the stars, and she followed Tony's side, accepting their kindness.
She left her gifts in Kathy's room before coming down.
Mrs. Smith was talking to them and when she saw her coming down she said in a sour voice, "I'm afraid the only person who can match our little Cathy is Tony."
She then looked at Alice, who was slowly coming over, and asked with a smile, "Isn't that right."
Alice laughed along with her, echoing her, "Yes, I can't even bear the thought of it."
Kathy was still laughing, but she couldn't help but lower her head shyly at these words.
Mrs. Smith also left them alone and found an excuse to drag Alice to the corner, her face completely devoid of the kindness she had shown earlier.
When she spoke to Alice, she was also unforgiving, "Cathy is back, it's time for you to return her things."
Her heart was bitter, but her face was used to it. She smiled lightly and nodded, agreeing with her.
Only then was Mrs. Smith relieved, and no longer by her side, she headed over towards the kitchen. Alice couldn't help but call out, "Mom."
"What is it." She turned her head and looked at her impatiently. The look was like she was looking at a piece of trash, and Kathy laughed and shook her head, "Nothing."
That thing she still hadn't said, nor could she say it. With a smile on her face, she watched her leave her sight, her heart scraping like a knife.
The meal was served, and she sat next to Tony, quietly picking at her bowl of rice. But the dishes on the table, through the bowl can taste the sickening greasy smell.
When Kathy saw that she hadn't eaten any vegetables, she couldn't help but give her a piece of five-flowered pork and put it in her bowl, before laughing, "Alice isn't even eating vegetables, this is your favourite five-flowered pork, try Mum's handiwork."
Looking at the fatty meat in the bowl, which was so red that it was black, she had no desire to eat it; instead, the thought of revulsion was strong.
She paused and didn't eat it.
Kathy frowned and said again in aggravation, "Why isn't Alice eating, haven't you always liked this."
The aggrieved words made them all put down their chopsticks and look at Alice, and under the judgment of all eyes, she held back that sick feeling and tried to speak, but she heard Mrs. Smith suddenly put her chopsticks down, the crisp sound disturbing them.
Alice gave a start and heard her say angrily, "Don't let Alice eat, don't let Cathy's good intentions down."
Tony also spoke up afterwards, looking at her with a cold expression on his face, "I really don't know how Cathy could have a sister like you, don't make a face if you don't want to eat."
In an instant, everyone here had become her enemy. Alice looked at them blankly, wondering what she had done wrong, with the child on one side and them on the other.
She was caught between them, being pulled. The child, who was not yet out, could not speak or understand, just instinctively commanded her stomach not to accept the greasy food.
Even the child, too, was beginning to work against her.
Alice touched her stomach and put it down again. Looking at the bowl of food, her face was wooden. With some desire to resist, she treated these people with silence.
Responding to those who condemned them with silence, seeing the way they held themselves helpless, Alice felt a little more comfortable at the bottom of her heart.
After so many years of silence, of silently accepting the malice or what was also called unintentional things they gave her, she had long gotten used to it.
Now they took the habit for granted, but she had long since ceased to be the submissive Alice who was afraid to speak up.
Her audacity was all in her drunkenness, her spiritedness all in watching her opponents fall at her feet one by one.
She can handle things at the table, but not at the dinner table. If people knew that she, a PR queen, was someone who couldn't even handle her family, she would be made a laughing stock.
And only the people around her would have a chance of hurting her.
Looking back at these people again, Alice felt a lot heavier in her heart. Each one of them is holding up the sign of being good for you and forcing you to do things you don't like, and in the face of them Alice feels a sense of anger blocking her heart.
Even Tony was involved here, and her heart immediately went cold.
