Chapter 18
KIRA:
I think it’s about time I find a way to make a run for it. It might not be a successful attempt in the end but it would be worth trying. Because even if I had a glimpse of hope that I would be allowed to walk away free, that hope has been dashed completely now.
My last encounter with the beta was nothing home to write about. I’m sure he still has my face marked in his mind. And as I sight him with the massive tattoo inks on his body which is more revealed due to the armless leather jacket he has on, I knew things were about to go through another route.
“You!” the beta growls at me upon realization when he gets beside the Alpha. And unconsciously, I take another step backward out of fear.
“Hold it right there, Hunter,” Alpha Reid says and turns his head to stare at the beta who looks like he is going to tear me apart if he gets the chance to. “What do you think you’re doing?”
The snarls being produced by the beta are enough to make me terrified. I should have known that another day would come when I would be face-to-face with him again and yet I still went on to run my mouth that day like there was no tomorrow.
“That’s her!” the beta responds to the question thrown at him.
“Who?”
And the beta looks at the Alpha. “She’s the bitch who trespassed that day. The one we failed to catch because she successfully bested us in getting to borderline.”
“Oh,” and now I can see the Alpha looking right back at me with eyes that I cannot read. Was he being pitiful? But that becomes more like a fluke because he suddenly looks pissed. “You need to mind your language, Hunter.”
That got a sudden reaction from his beta who looked like he could not believe his ears about what he just heard. Even if I was a little surprised that he would be sort of scolding his own man right in front of me.
“Why?”
“Because you are cussing at a girl. C’mon, you’ve got more dignity than that,”
“Dignity? What the hell is dignity when it involves a girl that runs her mouth without thinking things through? If you were there with me that day, I’m sure she would have given you a piece as she did to me,” and those scary eyes were right back at me. “Now look at her. She’s done the same thing that she did that day — Trespassing. Just let have a go at her and she would regret her actions for the rest of her life. That’s if she survives this,”
All of a sudden I lost the use of my legs. I want to dash out of here but my legs do not budge to it. What the hell is going on here?
I have no choice but to ready myself to be attacked at any minute. Because I can see the beta start to take steps. But he hasn’t taken more than three to four when a command comes his way.
“Stand down, Hunter!” the Alpha instructed with probably the calmest tone I have ever heard. But the calmness in it had something else.
“Don’t worry, Reid. I’m just going to teach her a little lesson,” the beta says and continues with his motion. Until the Alpha growls...
“I said: Stand down!”

REID:
I was trying to figure out what to do with the girl when Hunter suddenly showed up from nowhere. And it was kind of infuriating because I wanted to figure this out myself with her. Especially after realizing the issue with her is more complicated than it seems.
But what the hell was Hunter trying to do? He wants to go for an attack on her while I am still standing here. Has he gone mad or something?
I walk up to him after he stops. That was after I used the authority in me to make him stop because I was sure he would have carried on without what I did.
“Didn’t I already tell you to stand down?” I ask him, my eyeballs going up a little due to the height difference.
He looks hesitant to look at me and he should be. After faulting my instructions, I should teach him a lesson.
“I only wanted to—” he starts to say but I cut him off. I am totally uninterested in what he has to say to justify himself.
“I don’t care what you wanted to do. When I tell you to stand down, you stand down. Don’t you ever go against my instructions again!”
“Aren’t you taking this too far, Reid?” he asks, finally looking right at me with query written on his face. “It was just a simple thing I wanted to do. You don’t have to be so harsh about this,”
“I’m not being harsh here,” I say. “I only want you to learn how to listen. So do me a favor and not mess things up again,” I was about to turn around to look at the girl but then I recall something. “And didn’t I tell you to head back to the quarters without me? Why did you follow me down here?”
“I thought you were in danger. Besides the way you came here felt a little suspicious so my curiosity got the better of me,”
I shake my head. What does he take me for? A weakling? He thinks I cannot take care of myself or what? If I decide to confront him about it, I’m sure he would hate me for it. “You never listen, Hunter. You just don’t,” is what I can say before finally looking away from him.
The girl that became a reason for the slight issue between me and him is still there. And by looking into her eyes, I can see how scared she is. Unlike how she was a few minutes ago when it felt like she wanted to have an attitude.
I can’t believe she’s my mate. After all these years, the moon goddess decided that it was time that I finally have a connection with someone else. But it seems that I would have to wait two more years because I just found out that she is not up to age yet. Guess nature never really wanted me to have someone yet.
How then was I able to feel a connection toward her? Since she is not up to age yet, the feeling should never be there. A lot of explanation needs to be put into this whole thing. And maybe I would need to deliberate over this again.
“You don’t need to be scared, Kira. I’ll be sending you back home soon,” I announce to the girl who does not seem okay to be here more than a minute.
“Reid, what are you doing?” I hear Hunter question me and I look at him fiercely.
“And since when did you become my leader?” I lash out at him. “You had better stay out of this before things get a little rough between both of us,”
“If only you will explain why you are being so soft toward her. I mean, this is unlike you. For heaven’s sake, she trespassed. How can you let her just go without even a warning?”
I close my eyes and take in a deep breath. I exhale almost instantly and try not to allow my emotions to take the better of me. Especially with Bryan growling wildly in my head.
“If you had just let me carry on with my words, you will know that I was about to issue a warning to her. Now, let me be. And I won’t be asking that of you anymore,”
To the girl, I say, “I would advise you not to step foot here again. I will let you go, but before I do, just know one thing. We will be seeing more of each other soon,”
She looks confused and definitely cannot hide it. I nod because it was the right reaction I needed from her. “I don’t understand what you mean by that,” she says.
“When the time comes, you will understand. So don’t dwell on it too much,” I tell her and then look ahead of her, through the path I was sure she has gone through that led here unintentionally. “I’m sure that is where you came through,”
She cautiously turns to look at where I am staring at. And then looks back at me with a nod. “Yes,”
“But I presume you do not want to go back through that path,”
“Please,” she says, looking like she was about to get on her knees to beg me not to allow her to go through there.
“So she can be this humble,” Hunter’s saucy statement gets to my hearing but I pretend not to hear him speak.
“My beta will escort you to the main path back to the borderline,” I suddenly announce. And simultaneously, I hear both individuals speak.
“What!” they both exclaim the word at the same time.
“Why would you think I would want to take her?”
“I’m sorry I can’t go with him,”
I shift my position to the side so I can be in the middle of both of them. And then I stare at them one at a time. Surely I expected that reaction from them and it almost makes me produce a smile on my face. But now was not the time for such.
“Just show me the path to go through. I will find my way from there,” the girl brings that to the table and I face her directly.
But before I could talk, Hunter beats me to it, “Of course, you’ll know the way from there. Since you know nothing more than to trespass whenever you get the chance to do that,”
“Why do you even have a problem with me? Can’t you just take a word or two from someone and let it go? Or it’s just your manly ego that is overwhelming you?”
“How dare you talk to me that way, you bitch! You might have been given the chance to leave but you realize you are still on pack territory,”
“And just like I told your Alpha, I don’t care. You guys can do whatever you want to do with me,”
“Reid, why would you allow such a rude girl to talk to you that way?”
“Enough!” I snap at both of them. “I’ve had enough of you two going back and forth like kids. Hunter, you’ll be seeing her off to the borderline. And don’t think of trying anything funny because I will be going with you two.”
