Chapter 27
KIRA:
I inch back a little even with the distance I have away from him. I was mostly startled by his voice which was what causes my reaction.
“Uhm, hi?” I pretty much sound so nervous. No way I could hide it from him.
He starts to walk up to me and it only increases my tensed state that I start to feel like I should get out of here. My legs wouldn’t budge as I literally find myself rooted to the spot.
“Your curiosity brought you here, isn’t that right?” he says while still making his way slowly to me.
“Was it the same for you?” the words were unplanned but they came out of my mouth. Felt like courage that I didn’t know I have stored in me coming out.
I see him give me a stare that seemed menacing due to the amount of pressure overflowing with it. I hold on to the pressure that came with it because the last time I needed was for him to see me as a weakling.
“How did you get to convince your folks that you wanted to leave your quarters?” he asks me, stopping briefly before continuing to make his way up to me.
Finally, my feet budge to my internal instructions and I find myself backing away. “I talked, I guess,”
“You sure did,” and that is when he finally stops coming up to me. I do the same by not backing away from him again and just standing there while watching him with curious eyes. “I don’t think you should have come. Because no one else other than two of us is around,”
My attention shifts to the school building and by listening to it through my heightened senses, I realize I was unable to hear a single noise coming out from it. The only noise around here was the chirping of birds and probably some rodents. It was only because of the wide range that I could occupy was the reason I could hear the sounds of the insects.
Come to think of it, if my senses have indeed been heightened, how come I didn’t sense him before he revealed himself to me?
“I should get going then,” I say. Without waiting for a response, I was already turning around to leave because I don’t think it would be wise of me to stay around here alone with this freak. Yeah, that’s what I call him now. Only to myself.
“Wait!”
I don’t know why but the urge to stay as he reached out to me overwhelms me. And just like that, I have turned back around to heed his call.
“What is it?” I ask.
“There’s something I want to show you... only if you’ll come with me.”
My face instantly flashes with questions as well as nonchalance. Does he really think I would want to follow him anywhere other than being right here with him? Seems he doesn’t know how creepy it sounds to request I follow him somewhere.
“And why would I go with you? What is even that important that you want to show me?”
“I think you are the only one that would make sense out of what I am about to show you,” he says, maintaining his calm tone. It was flavored with a punch of persuasion that I knew would get to me soon enough. “Your curiosity led you here, right? Then I am about to show you why you were brought here in the first place. Trust me, it is going to be worth your time,”
I won’t lie that I feel the need to want to have a look at what he wants me to see. But at the same time, I am hesitant to be around him. He keeps giving me the creeps since our first encounter and since he keeps mentioning every time about knowing what I am, then it sure wasn’t going to let me feel alright around him.
“I don’t think I want to,” I say reluctantly. Yeah, it was not convincing enough which means it would give him the chance to try to persuade me more. Except I didn’t expect what would happen next.
“Okay,” was what he said. And just like that, he has turned away from here and starts to head into the school building.
Wait, what? Did he just do that? I thought he was going to try to convince me to go with him but he didn’t even do anything. Why then did he make it sound so serious?
Aw man, now I am more curious to know what it is that he wanted me to see. And I know for sure that if I do not go with him now, I would end up coming back here on my own to find out what it is he was trying to show me.
As I watch his retreating back, I am on the fence on whether or not I should go with him. My instincts haven’t picked any sign of danger around here which is why I still feel safe being around here. But I don’t know if I’m about to do the right thing. I just don’t know.
Eventually, I come to a decision. And the next thing is that I am jogging to catch up with him before he goes out of sight.
“Whatever psychological effect you used worked on me,” were the words that leave my mouth when I get to his side. And I notice him smirk just after I say that.
We both go into the building with him leading the way while I follow from behind. I am not entirely convinced yet that I am safe but Alexia has given me the go-ahead for the time being, promising to be on the lookout for any suspicious movement for me.
The hallway was vacant just as expected. I feel the chills even at that. More chills than the will to escape the sight of Sophie and her gang. Feels like something is lurking around here somewhere.
I want to ask Kelvin where he is taking me to but decide to keep quiet for now. Let him lead the way and whenever he deems it fit to stop, then so be it.
We go through the stairway leading to the upper floor. And it was when we get to the hallway on the floor did he eventually stop walking. And I do the same.
I look around first for anything strange but see nothing. This is where the senior student’s class is. The down door has the junior classes and the extracurricular classes. I like being around here most times because of the feel it gives to me but most times I tend to ignore that feel to save myself from trouble.
“Okay, so what are we doing here?” I ask while looking around the hallway, trying to figure out if there was something out of the ordinary that could be what he wants to show me.
“I want you to see something,” I hear him say in a tone that sounds solemn.
I still look around. “See what?” I quiz while still not folding anything.
“That...” and that is when he points his hand in a particular direction. I follow the direction to see that he was pointing to something on the ground but I cannot seem to make sense of what is that because it is a bit dark in here to do so.
“What is that?” I demand to know while still attempting to get a clearer picture of the thing ahead.
“Follow me,” were the two words that come out of his mouth before he starts to walk off in the direction of where he pointed to.
I follow suit immediately, still looking at the thing. And when we both get nearer to it, I am presented with a clearer picture of the thing
It looks like something similar to mucus or so. Looks dark and slimy and I don’t know. Just can’t get the full details or idea of what it is.
“So what is that?” I have to ask because the one who brought me to look at that has not made a move to explain to me what that is.
“That is an unwanted substance lurking around here. It means we now have a third body on this premises which is certainly not good for an environment like this,”
The weird spirit in me has me looking at him for a while and then down at the substance on the floor. He sounds like he is crazy or something because that literally made no sense.
“Third body? What are you even talking about? Does that make sense to you? Oh geez, this is ridiculous!” I find myself almost snapping because it really feels stupid that I might have wasted my time to come to take a look at something that is so not worth it.
“I know you think I’m crazy for saying such words without a proper meaning to them, but deep down, the other entity in you thinks otherwise.”
My heart genuinely skips a beat at the mention of that. “Wh– What other entity?”
He smiles. A broad one to be precise. “I told you I know what you are...”
