Chapter 76

KIRA:

I feel I have lost a lot of blood. I can hardly move my body as I lay on the ground waiting for what fate has in store for me next.

I can already hear incoming footsteps which means he is coming for me once more. The thought of it is frightening, especially judging that I have no defense against what is coming against me.

When I hear nothing again, it prompts me to force myself to sit up so I can take a look at what is going on. I won’t necessarily say I succeeded in doing that because my elbows were just put up as a support to lift my body upward a little bit.

I realize why I hear nothing from him again. This is because he is right now in the process of shifting. He has bent to the ground a little as the transformation starts to take place and in less than two seconds, a different entity was found in place of him which made me more scared than I was of him.

His wolf is brown like almost other wolves I have sighted. The only difference is the size. Being that he is just an ordinary wolfling with hardly any experience in being a wolf, he was bound to have a wolf as small as that.

His wolf stares at me with those devilish eyes while snarling continuously and drooling from the side of the mouth. The fangs were sharp... one that could tear through my skin should it attempt to attack me with it.

I start to move backward slowly with my elbows still used as support. Even though my body was mostly numb at the moment, I should try to see to it that I get myself to safety. Because now it was evident that the Kelvin right here was bent on killing me today.

My attempt was futile because I have hardly moved away from where I was when I was clawed at right on the face which stopped my motion instantly. This time, the amount of blood that would leave my body would be worse, that, I know.

I could hardly see now as the blood flowing through the open wound on my face has temporarily blinded me. I had to switch to my senses to figure out what would happen next. And that was a saving grace before I could get any claw going right through my face.

I hold tightly the paw of the wolf as I try to adjust my sight which was hardly getting anything. I mean, one eye was not advantageous in this situation.

With my eye, coupled with the heightened senses, I got hold of the second rear paw which seemed to be in motion as well. Then I make a move to shove the wolf off me but it was proving to be much stronger than I am.

I finally get to push it away but it was hardly any distance because it was rushed back at me and then hit me square in the chest, making a force go through me that has me coughing out blood.

I lay flat on the ground, already weak to the core because I am now out of ideas. Perhaps I should just give in and let it finish the job. There was no way I could find a path out of this. I am in a literal mess at the moment.

The wolf was towering over me now with its paw raised up high as it gets ready to swipe at me. What I do is close my eyes so as to get on with my death. I hope Adam will be okay.

Maybe it was just the air but I felt a burst of force on my face. And the crazy thing is that I still haven’t been clawed at which moves me to open my eyes to see what must have happened.

To my surprise, there is a hand over my face. And on that hand is the paw of the wolf which has obviously gone through the hand because it was dripping blood right down on my face.

Before I could make sense of that, the owner of the hand has pushed the paw away from my face and then quickly hit the wolf with his leg which sends it a distance away from me. At least now I could say I was safe for a while.

I manage to sit up after that. I get the back view of my savior and my mind instantly processes who it is. And with the thought going through my mind, it is confirmed when the being turns his head sideways to look at me.

“Kira, stay down. I'm going to get you out of this.” my savior tells me. Or perhaps I should say my best friend. Because right there is Bradley who is still dressed in his guard uniform.

I was about to yell at him to face forward but I did not need to because he has done that already, right before Kelvin’s wolf attacked him. I watch as Bradley defends himself with his hands and then starts to dish out hits toward the wolf.

It ends up in a scuffle in the process while I watch on. Although Bradley is not getting the upper hand because he keeps going down during the fight. He has not even managed to get the wolf to the ground at all but all through he has put up a good fight against it. Well, that is until he is shoved away until he lands right beside me.

I look to the side at him and say, “Shift into your wolf.”

He looks back at me. “What?” he asks.

“I said shift into your wolf. I think that is the only you can put up a fight against him.”

“And who is he?”

But I am unable to answer the question because all of a sudden, a strong wind is blown against us which signified that the wolf was lunging toward us.

Bradley, with his quick thinking, is up from the ground before the wolf gets to us and I watch as both of them clash midair while I crawl backward away from there.

They both land on the ground after that. But as quick as that, they are up on their feet and paws. Bradley briefly stares in my direction, and with a nod, he shifts into his wolf.

His wolf is slightly bigger than Kelvin’s but with nearly the same color of fur. I was hardly able to tell which was which without the height difference. But what I know now is that it is about to get dirty.

Both wolves lunge at each other and I watch from a distance as they swipe at each other constantly, bruising each other's skin as they plan to get one of them to subdue.

I cannot even say which of the two is having the upper hand yet because it looks to be in a stalemate. I just hope Bradley gets through this lest he ends up dead in the hands of the Kelvin I do not know.

The clash between them goes on for a long time until finally, there is someone on the ground. And fortunately, it is not Bradley’s wolf.

I feel a glee in me as I watch Bradley victorious. My next aim is to get up from the ground so I could see how it would be possible to escape away from here with Bradley, but it was useless because of what transpires next.

Bradley’s wolf suddenly growls in pain and it was enough that it made me feel like it was about to die. I watch as it drops down to the ground, taking the role of Kelvin's wolf who stands up on all fours.

Then after that, it starts to claw at Bradley’s wolf which keeps screaming in agony from how much it was taking. It hurts me that I have no response to that because now I am dying to find a way to help out but nothing is coming to mind.

I am not going to lose Bradley! I cannot lose him. As the tears start to make its way to my eyes, I knew I have to find something to do before Bradley is killed because of me.

Alexia should have an idea. She should. Why the hell do I have her as a wolf when she could not make out a possible solution to this situation?

“Help me out here!” I yell.

‘I’m sorry, but there is nothing I can do. This is way beyond me.’ is what Alexia tells me which puts my mind in a distressed state.

“Are we going to just watch him die? Look, he is in pain!” and it was that time that the wolf's growl of pain rents the air again.

‘This is truly beyond me, Kira. I'm sorry.’

Dammit! What do I do now? I need to find a solution to Bradley’s agony myself since Alexia has proven to be useless in a dire situation like this. Perhaps she really cannot do anything to help him.

There was no need for me to figure something out because all of a sudden, I notice a few beings pass by my side. They were warriors of the pack.
