Chapter 78
REID:
“We need to find a solution to your problem. We cannot keep letting you endanger the lives of others in this pack.” I say that with a bit of anger directed toward my beta seated right in front of me.
It has been a week since the incident that had me having to put him down again. And for over a week, until yesterday, he was chained down to his bed. You could still see the scars that came with the silver chains used on his wrist. Must have hurt like hell.
But I, for one, am not enjoying this. I should not be feeling endangered by the one I call my right-hand man. Literally makes no sense. How can I guarantee the safety of others when one of the problems comes from the one that should be assisting me in leading them?
“I’m sorry, Reid,” he starts to say, reflecting soberness. “I wish I have a way of getting through this without putting the lives of others at risk but this is a tough call for me. The fact that I have no idea what is going on with me should be something I consider as well. And I’m sorry that you feel so stressed about what is going on. I truly do wish I could get things in order.”
“Well, you can start by putting your anger in check. Have you thought about the probability that your constant anger issues might have been a trigger for the mess you are causing now?” I ask him.
He looks skeptical. “I haven't,” he says. “Because it is not something that should worth crossing my mind. And I don’t mean it to be rude, but if that would be the case, why then does it feel more outwardly than normal?”
“What do you mean?”
“I told you already how it feels like I am being called. Yeah? That is what happened this time around again. Yes, I had been seriously annoyed with knowing that Diana and her men are here with us. But it then switched me to a feeling that I could not control. You know, something like being possessed or something.”
I stay quiet for a while. And not to reflect on what he just stated, but to give him the stink eye so he could at least reconsider what he just said.
Perhaps he did not realize that he was going in circles with me. I had mentioned that the possibility of the trigger to his berserk state might be his anger and he disagreed but with the explanation he just dished out, there is no doubt about that now it seems to be true.
“I don’t think you’re listening to yourself,” I start with that. “You disregarded the idea of having your anger being the cause of your predicament but with everything you just said, you are just going back to what I asserted.” He is about to say something but I quickly cut him off. “Think about it. Why did it have to happen when you had reflected your piss on those you didn’t like?”
He looks at me funny. Of course, he is having his mind going through a lot at the moment. I might have confused him, who knows? But I doubt that because I was not even aiming to go around in circles with my words unlike him.
“That happened, yes. But should it amount to what you are terming it to be?”
I smirk. He sure is in doubt about what I told him. It seems he has not reflected on it yet. Or maybe he has but is choosing to be in self-denial.
I proceed to explain to him what I have in mind, “Hunter, you had better take my word for it. Your anger issues are something you need to look into. And you had better do that fast. I cannot always be here to put you down when you go haywire again. With the look of things too, I doubt if Ryu can do the same.”
“But I can...”
We both turn our heads at the same time in the direction of where the voice came from. And the sight that is reflected around the doorway which leads right here into Hunter’s room is that of a woman dressed in red overall.
It is Diana. And yes, she is without the mask like she always has been since she came into my pack. But the overall clothing on her still remained because it seemed to be something she could not let go of... she and her men.
“And what is she doing here?” I hear Hunter complain, making me stare at him for a brief second before looking back in the direction of the doorway.
Without even asking for permission to come in, Diana walks in on us with ease and composure. Just the way she likes to carry herself.
“You said something not too long ago, Diana. What was that?” I ask her, trying to make sense of what I heard her say when she interrupted.
She states at me first before shifting her gaze to Hunter. The look she gives him tells me she is attempting to taunt him and I was certain Hunter was not liking any bit of that.
“I said I would be able to put down Beta Hunter,” she reiterates confidently. “I am going to be here for quite a while. At least until I get the revenge that I came to seek. So until then, it would be appropriate I be useful for the pack that chose to harbor my men and me in this time of distress.”
I look straight at Hunter the moment she was done speaking. And the reaction from him was just as expected.
He didn’t like her guts, which was obvious. And to make matters worse, she just decided to say to his face how she would be able to put him down should in case his predicament decides to explode again. Nobody in his shoes would be able to take that.
“Hey...” I say to grab his attention but he decides to ignore me while staring stone-hard at the lady. I decided to snap this time around: “Hey!” And it worked because he instantly looks straight at me.
“What?”
“You might want to calm down a bit. You look like you are about to tear her limb from limb.”
“I would love to.” he snarls while he says that.
“In as much as I do not care what you want to do, you have to consider that I will not hesitate to put you down once and for all if you suddenly go berserk again,” I watch as his expression changes the moment I say those words to him. And to make him realize that I was being serious, I add, “And I mean it.”
After that look away from him to focus on the lady that had stated something that was of particular interest to me. And no lies, I really wanted to hear what she had in mind.
“What makes you think you would be able to put down a berserk beta of a pack?” I ask her, revealing how much interest I have in her answer to be.
“Easy,” she starts with that, not failing to hide how much she has to boast of. “I have dealt with situations much bigger than his. I am not the commander of the dreaded Red Legion warriors for nothing. It took years of experience to get me there.”
“I see.” is what I can utter because there was nothing else I could say.
What she did tell me made sense. And there was no need to press on with the issue. I guess I still have my pack in safe hands should in case a situation that would warrant me not being here come into place.
I cannot seem to trust Hunter again when it comes to handling the pack issues. The predicament he has now is not looking good anymore and it would surely take a while for him to get over it. That is if he will able to.
“Still,” Diana’s voice makes me look up once more at her, “you have to find a solution quickly to it. It would not be safe for him to go on this way. You mentioned yourself that he has evolved from the first time it happened to him.”
Before I could say anything in response, Hunter beats me to that. And it was not any good. “Why are you so interested in my business? You are here to seek help from us not to give out help. It would be wise if you stick to what you are here for.”
I quickly try to apologize to Diana. “Don’t listen to him. He is not in control of his words most times.”
She all but ignores me as she tells Hunter, “I am not the one with the predicament that could endanger the lives of others. A beta you are,” and with a scoff, she turns around and walks out on us.
