Chapter 42
REID:
“He's waking up,”
I hear Venice say and I am prompted to look away from the window that I have eyes on. I turn my body to the side to land my eyes on a partially naked Hunter tied down to a bed.
I walk over to the bed, stopping close to the edge and it gives me a clearer view of him slowly opening his drowsy eyes. My arms are folded below my chest as I await his full activeness.
In no time, he is already fully awake and that is when he tries to sit up after groaning to signify a most likely pain in his body. “Ow, that burns,” is what he says after being unable to get up from the bed which was accompanied by a rattling sound. And at the same time, his eyes land on all three of us that are in here with him in the room.
He expresses shock at first and then confusion. But then he seems to gather himself and say, “What are you guys doing in my room? Did you tie me down like this?” He then exclaims at the end after another rattling sound that came with his struggle to sit up, “Ow!”
I choose to respond to him in place of the others because that should be my duty. “Don’t fight it. You’ve got some silver chains on you,” I tell him, explaining why he cannot sit up as he ought to.
“But it burns!”
“I know. It’s the only way we can bound you with having to go through the stress of holding you back should in case you lose yourself once more,” I say and then raise my hands in his direction. “Had a pretty hard time trying to get them on you. Got my hands burned in the process,”
I’m sure he can see the redness of my palms because even I had to go through pain just to get him bound. Even Ryu who had worked with me on it has the same fate.
Hunter groans again and then manages to lift his head so he could come in direct contact with me. That is when I notice the slight scar on his face from having to slash at him with my claws.
“You still haven’t told me what you all are doing here. And what would warrant me being tied down like this?” he asks at the end of his statement.
“It’s a simple explanation,” I state while putting my hands back in their prior position. “You went berserk. Almost to the point of killing Ryu here,” I gesture to the head warrior who was at my left and continue, “We being here is because we had to restrain you before you woke up to do such a thing again.”
“That makes no sense,” he says. “How would I suddenly go berserk? Are you sure of what you’re saying?”
“You know I should really punch you hard in the face for ruining my chance at having another go at Venice. Still wanted to show her how much she’s lacking in skills,” when I say that, I look in the direction of my sister seated by the right side a little distance away from the bed. I give her a creepy smile which she returns with a snare.
“This shit burns,” Hunter complains and then starts to try his best again in setting himself free from it. “You guys should get me out of it.”
“We are not taking any chances. At least until we are totally sure that you are fine now. And stop with the struggle. You’ve got no pants on.”
I tell him that because if he continues with what he is doing, then the sheet we used in covering him from his waist down to his legs would go off, revealing his manhood. And trust me, the last thing I wanted was to see that piece of junk, especially with a lady in here with us.
He finally gives up on the struggle. And following that, he starts to breathe heavily, his tattooed chest moving up and down with the rhythm. I wait for him to get back himself because I have a ton of questions to ask him and the other one that had witnessed the initial scene of him going wild.
“Ryu,” I call to the head warrior and look in his direction as I proceed to ask him what I had to, “How did Hunter suddenly become that wild? Did you trigger something in him by saying something you should not have said? Or is there something I should know?”
Ryu responds to my question instantly, “I have no idea, Alpha Reid. One minute the beta is fine. The next minute he has suddenly gone wild. And trust me, I would never say anything that would trigger him to act that way. He just started on his own with no viable explanation to it.”
Although Ryu is in a change of clothes after the one he had worn during the attack on him had been ripped off him, he still looks like he had gone through a lot judging from the scars that ran down his face to his arms. Sure there would be a lot more but the only visible parts of his body are what I was stating.
“Can you tell me what you two were doing together before that incident?”
“We had both decided to check the square to ensure if the area was safe. The warrior that had contacted you had been the one that had tagged along with us. The beta was asking about the reason the square was empty and just as I had been moved to give him an answer, he suddenly charged at me, leaving me with no space to even defend myself. It became worse when he shifted because I could not even do the same. Something just seemed off somewhere and I still have no idea what is it that went wrong at the square,”
The whole explanation was enough to give me a rundown of everything that happened before my beta had gone berserk. Although I must say it is a lot strange because it made no sense how a perfectly normal wolf like Hunter would suddenly lose it to the point of wanting to kill someone.
I nod in Ryu’s direction before looking at Hunter who was just limp on the bed. He looked like he had no intention of fighting the chains we had on both his hands and his legs because it would be a waste of time. Even I as the alpha would find it so hard to set myself free from such chains that has our weakness.
“Hunter, it’s your turn now to explain to me what happened,” I say, anticipating his response because I sure as hell want to know what went through his mind that made him lose it that much.
It takes a while but he finally says something. “I don’t know. I don’t even remember doing any of what Ryu said. The last thing I do remember is talking to him about the pack square. Asides from that, nothing else comes to mind. It’s like my whole memory was wiped off after that,”
There was no need for me to think it twice to know that he is telling the truth. But at the same time, I was certain there was something he was not telling me. Probably something that has to do with why he acted that way today.
“Is there you want to tell us, Hunter?" I have to ask. “Because I feel you have an idea what happened to you today,”
His heart skips a beat. I could tell because I was monitoring the regulation of his heart as he spoke. I wanted to catch something from him because it would be effective in knowing if he was telling the truth during his explanations or not. The skip of his beat means the question I asked him had triggered something in his mind and I sure would want to know what it is even if it involves getting it out of him by force.
“I will be honest with you guys,” he starts to say after a long sigh. “A lot has been going on with me that I have not shared. Especially to you, Reid.”
“What is it?” I give him the cue to carry on because I am already eager.
“Lately, I have been having crazy visions. It began as soon as the general hallucinations about the substance stopped. The visions mostly involved me seeing multiple of that substance in its giant form. Then I would see them join together to form a massive one. And the crazy thing is that in the visions, I always feel like the massive substance is calling to me, which I would have to say has been putting my mind in disarray all this while.”
The moment he stops, I cannot seem to wrap my head around it. Because I just realized how complicated of an explanation it is.
