Chapter 47

REID:
“Reid, the reason you’re here had better be good ‘cause if not, I’m going to kick you out of my territory just the same way you came here.”
That was the supposed threat I received from the one I came to meet in the territory that doesn’t belong to me. You must have guessed right because I am in the Green Dales pack. And right before me is my fellow alpha, Simon.
After the whole hustle and bustle outside the territory leading in here, I was finally let in. Even though I had been quick to announce my intention, they still maintained their high level of cautiousness. I totally expected it, because who wouldn’t act that way seeing a group of wolflings coming at their territory armed?
I had waited about ten minutes before they got in touch with Simon who finally agreed to let me into their territory. And to avoid any issue that would involve the pack members knowing I was around, they made me pass through a path that was not even the main way to Simon’s quarters. I was not bothered, and eventually, I am here.
“At least offer me a seat first before threatening me,” is the response I give to the angry-looking Simon. Trust me, if he wanted to have a go at me, he would. He was bad at hiding his feelings.
I cannot even recall the last time I set my eyes on him until today. It has been years. Probably even before I became the alpha of my pack. The dude wants nothing to do with the Night Blaze just as I want nothing to do with his but it seems he is about to realize that we might have to put our differences aside.
“Offer you a seat? You want me to offer the leader of my enemies a seat? How absurd of you to say,”
I shake my head, and without even saying anything yet, I take a seat. It makes him more furious than he already is but who cares? I don’t.
“You might just be about to realize that the Night Blaze isn’t your enemy anymore. Instead, we both might be sharing the same enemy without you realizing,” I tell him while watching his furious face scan me.
He looks a little the same since the last time I saw him. Probably ten years ago. The difference between then and now was the protruding grey hair on his beards and hair. Proves he is growing old already.
“What are you talking about?” he asks with a slight growl leaving his throat when he does so.
“Before we go into that, how old is your son?” I deviate from the topic of discussion that way. At least for a brief period.
“What has that got to do with you?” he demands.
“Is he not old enough to take the seat from you? Because obviously, you look to be stressed in carrying out your duty,”
Instantly, he snaps. “I will not have you insult me!”
“Be calm. It was not meant to come out like that. I only made that statement because what is coming our way is certainly something you might not be able to handle that easily. I know why I am telling you this,”
I watch him give him the wary eyes. He was damn too cautious and I hate it because he was making me feel like I was in his territory for the wrong reasons.
Soon after, he takes a seat as well in the opposite direction, making us sit in a sort of face-to-face position that way. Seems okay to me, judging his wariness.
“Will you get to the point already of what made you say we both have the same enemy?” he states, giving me the cue to start my explanation.
“Tell me, have you not been experiencing something mysterious in your pack in recent times?”
“How did you know?”
“Are you agreeing or what?”
“Just answer the question: How did you find out about what has been going on in my pack? Have you been spying on us or what?”
I smirk because I am not enjoying any of the attitudes he is portraying. His being defensive really sucks to me but I would have to keep my cool in this situation.
“No one spied on your pack. You seem to have forgotten that we share the same border so events in your pack are sure to reach mine in no time,” I tell him. “And don’t pretend like you have no idea what is going on in mine too. It would be very easy for you to do so knowing we tend to not leave warriors around the borderline.”
He does not react to the fact that I just exposed his pack’s doings which he was trying to rub on me instead. That was well played.
“I still have no idea how what you are telling me relates to having the same enemy. Are you going to cut to the chase or do you just want to waste my time?”
“Listen, it is pretty obvious already. The same enemy I am referring to is the mysterious happenings that have been occurring in both of our packs. Mine has been worse, it seems because we have even had to take up tighter security measures in ensuring it doesn’t spread like wildfire among the pack members. But it does not change the issue on ground about yours. Tell me what the situation is like in yours,”
He frowns upon my request. “And why would I bloody hell make you know the situation of my pack? Since you have an idea of what is going on, why don’t you tell me instead? Or is that you just decided to come at me with that just to get my attention?”
“The fact that you have not even denied it at all means I have been right all along,” is my response to him. “If you felt like I have been asking the wrong thing since I came, I am certain you would not be sitting with me just to listen to what I have to say. So stop with the act and answer me... Simon.”
The mentioning of his name last was in a way that would make him know how serious I was in this whole scenario. I have no time to beat about the bush and he as an alpha should have seen through that already instead of acting naive.
“I still cannot trust you, Reid. I don’t care what you have to say but you do not expect me to give out vital information to a rival pack. Do you know how long our packs have been rivals? It has been so many years now. Even though you are a young alpha, you already know about this. And I am certain that your father warned you about ever coming into a truce with my pack just before you took up the position,”
“He sure did,” I admit. “And he will be mad once he finds out that I was here in the first place. I do not care though because no one else runs the pack but me. Look, you do not want to trust me and I get it. But I will advise you come to terms with me in this situation. I have a reason I am here and if I do not get it done, then I do not think any of our packs would get out of the situation that seems to be knocking at both of our doors.”
“And are you going to tell me what made you come here?”
“Of course I will,” I say before proceeding to tell him how I met with the Elder of the Red Legion who gave me a foresight of the problems we are having and the possible solution.
At the end of everything, Simon was looking at me like I have just made the most hilarious statement ever, and trust me, it was enough for me to take offense.
“You do not believe everything I just said?” I ask.
“Believe? Why would I believe something that sounds so ridiculous to the ear? Listen to yourself, Reid. How can you tell me that you met with someone who you believe is gifted and then he told you the only way to solve the issue on ground is by forming a truce with my pack. Don’t you know that sounds so hilarious? Is this your way of trying to end the rivalry between both of our packs?”
Seeing that I have not succeeded in convincing him, I have to go through a means of defending my points. “Why would I even come up with such an idea if it was not vital? You talk like I am simping whereas you know very well that something mysterious is going on. You know that, Simon. You do. And Elder Griffith is not just a man. He is gifted. Are you trying to tell me you have no idea how the Red Legion functions?”
“Of course, I do,” he affirms.
“Then what’s with the bullshit?”
