Chapter 30

KIRA:
“This doesn’t make sense,” Bradley says as he runs his hand through his hair, looking entirely confused. “Didn’t you say for yourself that you’re just sixteen? You did. This means you can’t have a spirit wolf just yet. So make me understand what is going on here,”
I respond instantly, “But you asked me if I actually did have one then? I thought you must have an idea by asking that,”
“I was only teasing you. Even when you gave me the reaction that would make anyone else believe that you have something to hide, I didn’t think of anything other than you shying away because you didn’t have your clothes on when I first approached you. Trust me, I had nothing about the spirit wolf idea in mind,”
Now, this is messed up. Here I was thinking it would be easy to get him to understand my current identity but it seems I thought too much about it
He asked me the day in the woods if I did have one and I denied it. Who knew it was just a simple intuition to try to mess around with me. Gosh, I must be so messed up now that I cannot even think of any other approach that would have worked out in convincing him that I am like him now. At least in some way.
“How can this even happen?” he asks, but it was more to himself than to me because he seemed to be self-reflecting.
“My wolf said I’m special. Alexia’s her name,” I tell him.
“Alexia?” realization flashes through his expression. “Is that who you were talking to behind the tree that very day?”
“Yes,” I admit. “I still haven’t learned how to talk to her without speaking which is why I resort to using words.”
“Can you explain what she meant by calling you special? Because it makes no sense to me. Others might even call you cursed or something because the last time I checked, underage wolflings acquiring a wolf early were seen as threats to society. That doesn’t make you special.”
“I know. But that’s not what Alexia made me realize. She says I am bound for something big which is why I fall into the special category. And don’t worry about me being a threat because I cannot even shift into my wolf yet talk more of doing basic things someone like you can do with your wolf.”
I just hope my explanation would make him see me in a different light. The last thing I would want is my best buddy becoming scared of me because of something that should not have been made a notion at all.
Why on earth would anyone think special wolflings are threats? I have looked into our history books and no record of special wolflings doing something harmful to other members of their clan has ever been recorded. Which is why I think someone needs to explain to me why they think my kind would harm others?
“Brad, are we good? I need to know before I say anything else to you,”
“I don’t know, Kira. Everything feels strange to me right now which is why I’m still trying to gather my thoughts together. Just give me a few minutes and I’m sure I’ll be better.”
I nod in understanding. “Anything you say,” and I fall silent while waiting for him to come around.
What he does first is look for a nearby tree so he could rest his body against it. As I watch him, I notice how his face twitches from time to time which signifies how much he is allowing to go through his head. Must be difficult for him to accept that.
As for me, what I do a few times within the time he stays put is look around to see if I would sight anything unwanted around here. This area still gives me the creeps. If I do not get away from here in time, then I am sure the feeling of something popping out of nowhere would constantly flash through my mind.
Finally, I see Bradley start to approach me where I am standing. He looks to be more cleared of the situation now because of the change in his expression. I just hope that he agrees to help me after I present why I actually came to see him.
“Why do you want to see me?”
I smile because when he speaks, there is enough conviction for me that he has no grudges against me like I feared he would. The tone he uses is the normal tone that he uses in speaking to me. I can say for now that I am still in his good books.
“It’s for something very important, Brad. And I hope you’ll listen to me,” I tell him.
“I just hope it’s going to be within my capability,” he states.
“I’m sure it would,” I say before I go on to explain to him everything that happened today. From leaving my quarters because I was led by curiosity to getting to the school where I met Kelvin who proceeded to take me to the upper floor of the school building where he showed me something slimy that got him speaking in confusing words. Everything was explained to me.
“And who is this Kelvin?” is what he asks immediately after I am done with my explanation that lasted for a long while.
“He’s a senior.”
“What relationship do you have with him? Are you guys friends or what? And how does he know that much about something that, as explained by you, seems meaningless?”
“You know I have no friends. So no, he is not my friend. And about why he knows what that is, it is because he has something in common with me.” I tell him.
“And what is that?”
“According to him, when he was sixteen, his spirit wolf manifested which makes him a special one.”
When I say that, I can see another round of confusion bestowed upon his face. Maybe I should not have mentioned Kelvin’s identity to him. But there was no way I would not get to that if I wanted him to believe what I explained to him about what was found at school.
“So you mean there’s someone else in your school that is just like you?” he asks, not failing to hide his surprise in his tone.
“Yes,” I affirm with a nod.
“You know what? First, tell me how you got this spirit wolf of yours. How and when did this happen? And how did you find out about this Kelvin being just like you?”
I tell him how it happened which was the day he saved my skin from the hands of that Night Blaze beta who was bent on crossing the borderline to come at me. Then I explain how Alexia completely manifested to me when I arrived home which almost gave me a sense of fear.
“...and as for Kelvin, I only found out today about his identity. He has been showing his face to me after I managed to beat up a senior that has been bullying me. Told me his wolf felt a connection toward me which made him approach me. That is all I can say for now,”
He nods knowingly after I am done. Okay, now I feel stressed out from having to talk too much. Perhaps I need to stop with the long explanations because they were definitely exhausting.
“About what was found at your school, what do you want me to do? Or what does your friend want me to do?” Bradley demands.
“Kelvin wants you to meet with the alpha and plead with him to treat the matter as an emergency. If there is a way you can do that, he believes it would be effective in preventing any crisis in the school. Normally he would want to go through the management, but they do not have a final say in how the affairs are run but they still have a say in some way. But with the alpha’s approval, then he is sure something would be effective.”
“I see,” Bradley says. “But there is only one problem.”
“Okay?” I say, hoping it is not something that would prevent him from helping us out.
“Before you started, I told you that I hope the issue would be within my capability. But as you see this case, I don’t think it is.”
I become confused. How can this not be within his reach? “But you’re a guard. Why can’t it be something you can see to?”
“I hope you understand what you just said. I am a guard, yes. But a guard without any form of power that can stand in the presence of the alpha family. Which means there is nothing I can do about this.”
Aw man. Why did I not anticipate this? “What about the head of the warriors? Isn’t there a way you can get it to him?”
“I’m not sure he would take me seriously, knowing there is a pressing issue at hand. An issue that should have allowed you to remain inside your quarters and not follow some instincts. You know you could have landed yourself in trouble.”
“Not like there was an announcement of a general curfew,” I counter. “So there’s nothing you can do for me?”
Bradley shakes his head, expressing disappointment. “I’m afraid not.”
