Chapter 16: Cold-hearted

She turned her head at the back and saw the alpha's father. He was smiling at them and Natasha felt pressured by seeing the king. She was afraid that the King would find out about how the Alpha met her.

“I am doing this to protect my mate, Father. Someone tried to harass her earlier that almost put her life in danger,”

Natasha bent her head down when Alpha Reid started talking. She is not used to this kind of attention. Everything that happened now was still unbelievable.

“That's great, Son. You should protect your mate and if someone commits a mistake, they should face the consequences. You are the King and you must do your duty.”

Natasha lifted her head when she heard those words from the alpha's father. She looked at the King and he's also staring at her.

“And also love your mate. She's precious and innocent.”

Natasha blushed from what the King had uttered. She could even feel the strands of her hair standing on end hearing the word love. She is not comfortable with that word. Natasha knows that it's impossible for the alpha to fall in love with her. She was only a procured mate of the alpha. It's very impossible that he will fall in love with her.

“I will take note of that, Father. I will love Natasha with all my life because she was already part of the family. She was my mate and there's nothing I can do to change that fact.”

While the alpha was saying those words, he was looking at her. Natasha's heart beats so fast upon hearing those words. She didn't know what she was going to say. All eyes were on her. All the visitors are listening to what Alpha Reid was saying. In short, many have heard his words.

“I want the two of you to stay here. This place was all yours, okay?”

The King uttered, and Alpha Reid nodded his head responding to him.

“Yes, Father.”

“I have to go now because I still have many things to do. See you tomorrow.”

The King left after he mentioned those words. It took almost one minute when Alpha Reid started speaking.

“Everyone can go back to the party. Enjoy this night.”

After the alpha mentioned those words, everyone went back to partying. Natasha, on the other hand, is still standing. Her mind was still preoccupied about the words that the alpha had uttered earlier.

“My father is not here, so let's stop pretending.”

It seems like Natasha was poured with cold water when she heard those words from the alpha's mouth. He even let go of her hand, and she couldn't explain herself either. She felt dismayed by what the alpha mentioned.

“W-what do you mean?”

However, she was still forcing herself to sound energetic towards the alpha.

“Nah, it's nothing. You can go back to the room now and rest, Natasha. I have something to do. Don't go out and make sure that you lock the door.”

Alpha Reid turned his back from her. He was about to leave when Natasha spoke.

“Where are you going, Alpha Reid?”

“It's none of your business already, Natasha. I already played my part, so don't bother to ask me where I want to go because it is none of your business.”

Dismay.

That's what she felt right now. Natasha never thought the alpha would change like that. He's acting cold-hearted now compared to earlier.

“I… I see, Alpha. Please be careful.”

The alpha stopped his attempts to leave after Natasha mentioned those words. He turned his head back at her while his brows furrowed.

“Why are you so caring about me, Natasha? You shouldn't mention that,”

Her brows furrowed by what he mentioned.

“Why? Is it wrong to remind you that you should be extra careful? Of course, I mentioned that because I didn't want something bad to happen to you, Alpha Reid. I am your mate, remember?”

Alpha Reid nodded his head after her explanation. The alpha left after that and Natasha just followed her with her eyes. She lets out a deep breath and starts walking her feet somewhere. Natasha remembered that she had no idea where they would be sleeping tonight. The alpha didn't tell her the room, but then someone arrived in her direction.

“You are the alpha's mate, right?”

A middle-aged woman queried that made Natasha nodded her head responding to her.

“Y-yes, I am.”

“Please, follow me. Both of your rooms were prepared by the King already.” She uttered.

Natasha nodded her head and followed the woman. She even narrowed her eyes at the visitors and saw Alpha Reid talking to some boys and females. They even stare at her, and Natasha let out a sigh.

“You should get used to the alpha's behavior, Miss Natasha,”

Natasha turned her gaze back to the woman when she mentioned those words. Her brows still furrowed while they are walking down the hall.

“Alpha Reid is a cold-hearted alpha and everyone knows about that. I guess you're aware of that, too.”

A deep breath escaped from her mouth after hearing those words.

“Is he like that to everyone?”

She queried, and the woman stopped from walking.

“Yes, Miss Natasha. The alpha was cold-hearted to everyone, but despite that, he still had a heart. Don't worry because he's not always like that.”

A smile formed on her lips after what she mumbled. It's enough for Natasha to prove that Alpha Reid still has a kind heart after being described as ruthless and cold-hearted.

“Thank you for the words and I appreciate it.”

She uttered, and the woman just smiled at her.

“This is your room, Miss Natasha, and I believe that the alpha was already aware that this would be your room.”

Natasha nodded her head. The woman was about to leave when she realized something.

“What's your name, by the way?”

She queried, and the woman turned her head back at her.

“My name is Jhona, and it's my pleasure to meet you, Miss Natasha.”

She smiled because of Jhona. Natasha felt that this woman was friendly.

“Alright, Jhona. I am pleased to meet you. Thank you for accompanying me here,”

Natasha uttered, and she was even shocked by what Jhona did next.
