Chapter 22: The Alpha's Beta
Alpha Reid got up from his seat to open the door while Natasha was still standing. Her eyes were at the door. She was confused by the person knocking at the door.
“What is the problem?”
Alpha Reid queried the palace guard. He looked in my direction, so I started to feel nervous about it.
“Someone was looking for you, King Reid.”
He responded, and the alpha looked at Natasha's direction. She felt her heart pumping so fast just because of that.
“Okay. I will follow with my mate.”
After Alpha Reid uttered those words, he locked the door and went back at Natasha's direction.
“Is there a problem, Alpha Reid?”
Natasha hears their conversation, but she still wanted to know about it. Alpha Reid sighs first before she responds to her.
“We have a visitor in the middle of the night. I know it's important, and we have to see it.”
Natasha nodded her head from what the alpha had told her.
“Then, you have to check it, Alpha Reid. I will be alright, don't worry.”
Alpha Reid's brows arched from what she had said. Natasha felt nervous, and she didn't want to overthink about it.
“You're coming with me.”
She freezes from her feet as the alpha mentioned those words. He walked toward the door, and Natasha left no choice, but to follow him.
She has no plan of disobeying Alpha Reid because she already knew him. Whatever he wants will be granted and Natasha doesn't have a choice, but to obey him. That's part of her job. However, she also remembered that she still has a job toward the alpha, and that's to give him a child. Although Alpha Reid didn't open that topic yesterday and earlier, she still has to do that.
She also felt saddened by what her sister did to her. Natasha forgot to call her best friend and will eventually do that after this.
“You're walking too slow.”
Natasha jumped when Alpha Reid grabbed her wrist. She did her best to follow the alpha's every step. Alpha Reid walks too fast and if she won't run, she won't be able to catch him. After a couple of minutes of walking, they already arrived where the visitors are usually waiting.
Natasha's eyes were to the man who's patiently waiting for them. Her brows furrowed when she noticed the man's back looked so familiar to her.
“Alpha, Reid, this is our visitor.”
The palace guard uttered those words, so the visitor turned their back in their direction. Her jaw almost dropped to the ground when she saw him. He couldn't believe he saw his childhood friend, Damian.
It has been so long, and she wasn't expecting to see her childhood friend. Zach isn't the only one who becomes Natasha's friend. She has so many friends that she didn't see anymore for a very long time already.
“Natasha?”
Damian mentioned her name and Natasha was about to smile when she remembered Alpha Reid. She remembered his reminder.
“Who are you? Why did you know my mate?”
Alpha Reid inquired about Damian, and Natasha's friend looked confused.
“I will be your new beta, Alpha Reid and yes, I know that girl. She's my friend. How come…”
Natasha bent her head down because of what Damian uttered toward Alpha Reid. On the other hand, the alpha turned his head to Natasha's direction. She turned her face away because she's afraid to meet the alpha's gaze.
“That's good to know. This woman beside me claims that your friend is my mate. She is mine and as your King, you are not allowed to come near her without me.”
She couldn't believe what she heard from the alpha. Natasha turned her head in Damian's direction. It looks like the man wanted to complain. He still wanted to talk to Natasha, but he can't do that because of Alpha Reid.
Natasha also wanted to talk to Damian because it's been a while that they didn't see each other, but she left no other option. She must follow him if she doesn't want the alpha to punish him.
“I understand, Alpha Reid. I would like to send my gratitude for being your beta, Alpha Reid. It is such an honor and I am willing to spend the rest of my life if you want to,”
Natasha was listening to their conversation. She tried to wash all the thoughts away and focus herself on them. She was pleased that her childhood friend would be the alpha's beta.
Damian is the alpha's beta, and she never expected that she would see him again after so many years that they haven't seen each other. She even adores this man before. He's so overprotective and her defender from the bullies. Damian has always been so kind and gentleman to her. He never allows someone to bully her.
“Then you're at most welcome. I am also pleased because I have a beta. You are welcome here in the castle. You are free to look for your room. We will discuss the nature of your work tomorrow morning.”
Damian just nodded his head after Alpha Reid uttered those words. On the other hand, he didn't wait for the beta's response because they already left him. Alpha Reid is still dragging her away from him, and all she does is to look back and smile toward Damian.
“I hate seeing you smile because of him, Natasha.”
Natasha stopped from walking after she heard what he uttered. It seems like her blood starts to boil.
“I know I am just your procured mate, Alpha Reid, but what you're doing is not right anymore. You are being so territorial.”
Natasha couldn't stop herself anymore. She doesn't care any more about the consequences because what's important to her right now is to tell the alpha about what she felt from what he's doing to her.
“What the hell?”
Alpha Reid was annoyed, and Natasha already prepared herself for the possible consequences of what she did.
“I am your mate, Alpha Reid, and no one would take me away from you because I am your property. There's nothing you must get worried about. So, please don't stop me from talking to them.”
“Come on, Natasha. I don't care about you because I just care about what other people might say about me.”
And that hurts her.
