‘Is this normal?’

Lana was forced to question what she was witnessing and it made her scared. Her footsteps grew bigger and faster as the woman’s heart beat rapidly. What a day it was! Her life was at stake thrice by now in just a few hours? Possibly what else could go wrong? Probably everything?

She cast a cautious look at the bird which was still flying at the same pace as her. On Lana’s left side was the wall where multiple portraits were hung and the red carpet beneath her feet was stretched like a snake. Long and endless. Whereas on her right side were the open arches which had crimson shaded curtains lifted because it was daylight.

Lana could see the bird through those huge arches made of some strange grey stones. She ogled at the crow and felt as if the bird had been grinning at her which made Lana scared. The woman immediately halted in her place not knowing what was happening.

‘No, no. Am I seeing things now?’

She had no other explanation and assumed that she might have been imagining things due to stress. Nonetheless, Lana paused for a moment and looked at the crow who flew and sat on the boundary of the arch. For some reason Lana had no clue why she felt drawn to that bird. As if some kind of magnetic charm was in the bird’s ruby eyes which pulled Lana in the spell.

The woman stood there completely bewitched as she looked into the crow’s eyes blankly. Lana had no idea or control over her own body and within just a moment she started to take steps towards that crow. Her emerald eyes turned totally grey as Lana’s subconscious mind signalled her to obey the bird. Without knowing what she had been doing Lana walked closer and was just a few steps away from the bird.

It was the moment when an arrow was aimed at the crow and it flew past Lana. The air blew against her cheek faintly as the blonde hair lock moved. Although the instincts of the bird served him in the right time and he dodged the arrow. Due to the distraction the spell was disturbed and Lana was brought back to her senses. The woman immediately looked around her surroundings only to see the guard who shot the arrow.

“What is happening?”

Lana asked him in a worrisome tone when she saw multiple guards approaching behind him. She knew something was wrong but the woman had no clue that the intensity of trouble would be that much. The guard shot another arrow at the crow who again dodged it and flew near Lana.

The woman reflexively crouched hoping that the bird would not harm her while her eyes chased the crow. The guards took their positions as all of them formed a circle around Lana who was sitting on the floor. They knew that she was a precious person to the alpha which meant that no matter what they had to protect her. One of the guards spoke to calm her as Lana panicked and covered her ears when the crow started to make noise.

“Don’t worry, my lady. We will deal with these demonic brutes.”

The guard who was clad in the silver shiny armour assured Lana who somehow managed to look up at him. Whereas the guards were still tackling the crow who flew from here and there right above the woman’s head. Lana glanced up at the crow who began to make noise even louder making the guards become alert even more.

They all knew the possible consequences of putting Lana’s life in danger which were not any good. That was why the whole jury was sent to her aid when the beta Curtis informed about the threatful activity over the castle. The alpha hurried to the roof to ensure that the civilians were not in danger.

Lana was left with the trained and topnotch guards to fend for her. Similarly the beta Curtis immediately fled to Leita to protect her since the alpha Sahan could easily look out for himself. Both of the ladies needed someone with them at that moment because they could be the possible target. Since Leita was a human and the vampiric creatures were around the castle it was evident they could smell her blood and scent easily.

And the same way Lana had no wolf and seemingly her peculiar scent also appeared to be an attraction. It was crystal clear that if lord Hawthorne and his brother Pierce were able to sense it then the vampires would definitely catch it. Or perhaps one of them had already caught Lana’s smell and was right there near her to trap and lure the woman.

“They are all over the roof of Belle Morte. Goodness, what do these bloodsuckers want?”

The guard spoke once again in irritation as one of them held the spear from the base and waved it. He aimed to hit the crow with the pointy side but the super speed of the beast again dodged it. But it was a good distraction and the other guards followed the lead and tried to trap the crow in the round boundary.

“My lady!”

One of the guards yelled to get Lana’s attention while the others distracted and kept the bird busy. Lana glanced at the source of the voice while her hands were still covering the ears. However, the guard’s voice was still audible enough for her to hear who was instructing and waving his hand to protect the lady.

“Run, my lady. Run and hide somewhere.”

Lana nodded at the guard and haphazardly clutched her gown with her trembling hands. As per the guard’s instructions she slid away from the scenario and after getting out of the circle she glanced at the crow one last time. Just when she was about to run the noise of multiple crows grew louder as they became visible to her eyes.
