Lana was sure now that something about that gown was peculiar. Even though it was not someone important to the alpha now, she could not believe that once the owner of that gown was perhaps someone dear to him. And the way Sahan behaved with her upon wearing the dress was alarming for Lana and now her interest was piqued to know more. Lana could not shake off the feeling that there was more to the story behind the gown than she initially thought or else why would he bring it up once again to remind her. She decided to do some digging and see if she could find out more information about it.

"I know it may not matter anymore, but I can’t help but wonder who it belonged to," she said softly while trying to provoke Sahan to take the lead and spill the beans because the man had been keeping the full story a hidden thing. She had no clue who the person was and why the supreme alpha grew rouge upon the whole thing but still tore the dress. Sahan sighed, his expression becoming more serious since he was ready to say everything to gain her trust. "It belonged to someone I thought I loved once, a human. Isabelle was caught with her maid trespassing the supernatural realm and was sold to some other lord before we saved them both.”
The supreme alpha paused for a moment before saying anything further. He had no idea that Lana had been listening to him quietly and was all ears. The woman now understood why Sahan had reacted the way he did when she had worn the gown. It had been a painful reminder of the woman he had loved and probably lost. Because the way he had been walking about Isabelle it appeared that she was not alive anymore. And for some reason deep down in her heart it made her relieved that no other woman could now take place in his heart.
As the supreme alpha paused for a moment before Lana could sense the weight of his emotions since it was the most obvious thing. She realised that the gown held a deep significance for him because it was his beloved’s, and she somewhat felt honoured that the supreme alpha had chosen to confide in her to spill the beans. Because it was not an easy thing to do since the alpha was a reserved person.
As he spoke, Lana listened carefully, taking note of the pain and sorrow in his voice. She could tell that the loss of his loved one had affected him deeply, and she couldn't imagine what it must have been like for him. Lana empathised with the supreme alpha's emotions and could understand how difficult it must have been for him to speak about his loss even though she could feel jealousy. She felt honoured that he trusted her enough to confide in her and share his vulnerability. However deep down she was still suspecting that something was still being hidden from the alpha.
She listened attentively to the supreme alpha's words, Lana did not want to offer comfort and support as best she should have as the alpha’s mate. She knew that sometimes just being there to listen was enough to make someone feel heard and understood. But that was something she was doing because of the information she required about the alpha and his beloved.
She knew that it would take time for the supreme alpha to heal from his loss, but she hoped that their conversation had offered him some small measure of comfort and support. And she knew that she would have gained his trust by now with all that chat. The alpha resumed his speech once again from the same spot where he left, as his hands still toyed and swirled around Lana’s blonde hair lock.

“But it was all just a beautiful facade, a fantasy that I had built up in my mind that she loved me. Hah! It was all just a cruel set up she had come up with by approaching my enemies.”
Sahan stopped again and heaved with relief as he resumed again.
“But then I saw you that night at the ball, and I instantly knew you were the one. Lana, do you realise that what I had with her was nothing compared to the real, deep connection that we have."
The alpha touched her cheek as Sahan looked into her eyes with passion and deep emotions. It brought him closer to her but also reminded him about whatever had happened last time too. It was not in his control that whatever he had with Isabelle was now coming back in his mind and he was unable to fully trust Lana. Moreover he could not fully bring himself to love her because the woman was not having a wolf.
Lana listened carefully to Sahan's words while looking into his eyes, sensing the pain and betrayal he still felt from his past relationship. She could not imagine how difficult it must have been for him to realise that the love he had thought was real was, in fact, just a facade. And the worst was that Isabelle approached his enemies to seek help in winning his heart.
She was touched by Sahan's admission that he had found a deeper connection with her, and she felt a sense of warmth and affection towards him after knowing that he had been eyeing her since the ball night. She knew that the bond they shared was real and genuine for some reason Lana could feel it in her gut, and she was grateful for Sahan for telling her the truth now that he was finally talking.
"Different relationships bring different experiences," she said gently while touching his cheek this time, Lana daringly touched him this time asserting her claim over the alpha, "And while it may have been painful to realise that what you had with her was not real, it is important to remember that you can still find love and connection in your life now, your highness. I'm honoured that you feel that way about me and are seeking warmth from me, and I want you to know that I feel the same way about you. I just want to be treated equally as other people here and since now you have promised me that I am grateful for it every day."
She reached out to take Sahan's neck and wrapped her arms around him, offering him a comforting touch. "We can't change the past, but we can choose how we move forward. And I choose to be here with you if I am treated well, to support and care for you as we face the future together."

Lana's heart swelled with emotion, and she leaned in to kiss Sahan softly on the lips. "I don't care about the gown or the past anymore, Sahan," she whispered to him as Lana lifted herself a bit on her toes to reach his ears, the woman intentionally calling him by his name to display her genuine loyalty. "All that matters is that things will be good between us from now on." Sahan smiled at her, his eyes filled with affection as he had been feeling drawn towards her now. "I couldn't agree more, my sweet Lana. I promise to protect you no matter what, because you are my mate!"

Lana's heart fluttered with joy at Sahan's words. She had been waiting for him to declare his commitment to her, and hearing him say that she was his mate made her feel like she belonged to him in a way she had never experienced before. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him close, pressing her body against his as she deepened their kiss.
As they parted, Sahan looked at Lana with a new intensity, his gaze lingering on her lips before he spoke again. "I know I have been distant and aloof in the past, but that was because I did not want to hurt you. I was afraid of my own feelings, and I did not know how to express them. But today when the vampires attacked I became afraid that I might lose you." Lana nodded slightly even though her sole focus was now shifted to the mate part, she was truly trying to understand his reluctance to open up with her. "I forgive you, Sahan," she said softly while forgiving him as Lana smiled . "We all have our fears and doubts, but what matters is that we face them together."
Sahan smiled again, this time with a hint of mischief in his eyes. "Speaking of facing things together, I have a surprise for you," he said, taking her hand and leading her towards the window of the bed chambers. Lana followed his lead while the alpha was still holding her hand, curious and excited, wondering what the supreme alpha had in store for her. Because the sudden change had invited a lot of future surprises since it was a new beginning for both of them.
