Chapter 37: A lot in a day

A lot has happened since I was away, Hera had told me and when I say a lot, I mean a whole lot. First off, she had said somehow the Alpha King had managed to turn the backs of all five Lycan provinces away from the Winter Pack province, the main pack in the whole of North America — which means if he calls on a war on the winter pack, well then we are done for, because no one is on our side. Add that he has now placed a bounty of five million dollars on my head, and as he put it, he has to bring the notorious wolf hunter who leaves no trace of her escapades to justice. Which leaves me with one conclusion, he knows about the prophecy.. Of course he would know, and so Alec being alive is a threat to him, a big threat and as for me, probably a tool to gain power.
I exhale deeply as I take in the sight of the still frozen pool of transition. I came out here not quite long, as I was feeling a little bit suffocated being indoors for a long time.. And I could not resist the urge to relish in the calmness the sight of the pool brings to me. I hear nearing footsteps, and I am jolted out of my self induced fantasy. I glance at the approaching person, and it is Karen.
"Kay?" I smile up at her.. It is so nice to actually see her again, even though she isn't really related to me.. She will always be my family.
She blinks rapidly as she finds a spot to sit beside me, her eyes red and glistening from unshed tears. "Hey Kay, are you okay?" I know she is not, everything that has happened is enough to cause a breakdown for Karen. I bring up my palm to her face, slowly wiping the droplet of tears that had managed to escape, with my thumb.
"I'm sorry about what I said the other day you came visiting at school, Trix.. I am really sorry"
"Look, Kay.. You do not have to apologize. It is all my fault, bringing you up to hate the Lycans and suddenly wanting you to trust them.. It is all my fault" I say to her.
She bites her lips, shaking her head. "They are really nice you know, I mean once you get to know them.." She is right, indeed. Karen continues to speak, "I have two friends at school now... They helped with harnessing my abilities." Right, her gifts.. Hera had told me about it.
"You are pretty much of a superhero, aren't you now Karen Lana Fallon, with your gift of healing and seeing the future" she beams at me.
"I guess so... And you know, the Alpha guy? He is crazy about you" she chuckles, holding my hand. "I had a vision about you dying at the mercy of the Alpha king"
"You did?"
She nods in affirmation. "And you know what happened to your mate? He went on a full panic attack for almost ten minutes. He had this look on his face like he would kill the Alpha King if he could — man, it was so damn sexy" Karen laughs, I nudge her playfully.
"You are not allowed to think my mate is sexy, Karen.. Go find yours" we both laugh again, Karen shrugs.
"He hates his Family except Leila and you are the only person he actually really cares about now. You should have seen him when King Steven put a bounty on your head, he went full psycho mode and almost strangled his hot Beta Ryan"
I do not know if I should laugh at the fact that Karen just described Ryan as hot or frown at the thought of Alec almost strangling Ryan.
"He once had a mate y'know" I say instead.
Karen obviously already knows that, but I continue. "And she died, I think it was a rogue attack slash vampire attack"
"But obviously that's not all"
"Certainly.." Karen replies, "the whole story is a mystery, they said a man called Elliot led the attack, and before then they had tried to kill her once before colluding with his brother but Alec found out and the brother was sent to prison.
Elliot, I heard that name from Alec when I first arrived. "And where is the brother?"
"Right here my ladies, please to make your acquaintance. I am Logan Knight by name, brother to —"
"Do not come any nearer" I snap cutting him off as I immediately stand, pulling Karen protectively behind me. Surprisingly he doesn't talk, only instead, he is staring right at Karen, his grey flecks darkening as he takes in her essence.. I have seen that look before, and this better not be what I think it is. But in a swift moment Logan forcefully yet gently pulls out Karen from behind me until she is plush flat against his chest, he places his nose on her neck, sniffing her scent in and with a soft growl he mutters almost inaudibly.. "Mate!"
Okay.. What the actual fuck!

[Alec:]
"Tell me you have some kind of good news Ryan" I say exasperatedly as my Beta walks into my office.
Ryan sighs, "I wish I did, although I do have news and I do not know if to classify it as good or bad"
This time, I raise my head from what I am doing to curiously regard Ryan. "What are you talking about?"
"Logan" he pauses as if wanting my permission to speak him.
"What happened to him?" My indifferent tone is very clear, I do not want to know whatever is going on with him, as long as he keeps his hands off my mate and my pack.
"He— he found his mate" Ryan finally breathes out, that catches my attention and my eyebrows crease in questioning even though my reply comes out nonchalantly.
"Well that's good for him" I say.
"It's the girl, the Fallon girl..."
Shocked, I exclaim.. "Karen Lana?!"
"Karen Lana" Ryan replies in affirmation.
I gasp, "no freaking way."
"I thought so too, until I saw it with my own eyes Alpha... He held unto her like his lIfe depended on it, and he is growling at even her sister not to come closer"
Goddess! I do not need this kind of drama at this moment, there are a lot of things going on now, but still... "Where are they?"
"At the pool of transition"

True to Ryan's claim, the sight before me is definitely one to behold as my brother clutches on to a very frightened Karen, while Bella stands transfixed her calculating gaze a fiery sight.
"Logan!" I call just as my mate swings her hands over, obviously throwing Logan off Karen with her magic, she immediately pulls Karen to herself.. He lands on the floor, a low growl emanating from him. I glance around, noticing we have a few spectators.. Shit!
"Mate or not, I will not have you anywhere near my sister, Logan Knight!" Bella's voice drags my attention back to them and I step closer.
How the hell am I supposed to deal with this now, a war is brewing against my pack and all the moon goddess can do is give my fucked up brother a mate?, And Karen Fallon at that? Not what I am definitely expecting.
"What is going on here?" I eventually speak. Logan's dark gaze meets mine, and he scrambles to his feet.
"Let me have my mate, and I will have nothing to do with your pack again" I almost gasp at the flash of intensity in his eyes, neither do I miss the almost non existent pleading tone as he speaks, it is there nonetheless.. This is what a mate does to one.
"That is for your mate herself to decide, don't you think?" I do not want to have anything to do with Logan, but seeing at involves Bella, my resolve is broken.
"Mate? He has to freaking earn that title.. I cannot be mated to someone who is the outcast of a pack .. I am only even just starting to get used to you Lycans as it is" Karen protests from behind her sister, she speaks so calmly yet she the panic in her eyes is so evident.
"Outcast?" Logan scoffs, running his hands through his hair. "What have you been filling up their head with, brother?!"
I roll my eyes, mirroring his scoff with mine "You heard the girl Logan, you have to earn her trust by her own ways.. And I warned you, do not call me by that title!"
"Screw you and your fucking moon goddess!" He snaps, shifting into his wolf form as he ran into the woods.
I heave in a sigh, "Bella, we have to talk.."
