Chapter 40: Dinner slash Disaster.

[Alec:]
I hate Mother for doing this. I hate that Hera and Ryan think that this breakfast idea is a good one. I fucking hate that I have to sit at the same table with Logan, how much I hate that Bellatrix is being dragged into this. I hare that as much as I hate all these, I have no choice but to accept because according to Hera, fixing my Family comes first and it will be rude of me to dishonor the former Luna's request. Fucking formalities.
Even still, I am still bitter at my mother as she walks to the dining table set for us all. "Why do you keep walking into my life like you never left us with your psycho of a mate, Mother"
She stops at the entrance, "I am trying to fix things, Son"
"Fix things? How very interesting that the only time you decided to fix things is when your beloved first son came back from prison, don't you think? Very practical of you to act like you care, Mother? And why the hell did you have to drag my mate into this bullshit get-together?!"
"Alexander—"
I see red. All fucking red, I am out of my seat in no time, my wolf threatening to escape as I pin my mother to the wall. "I told you never to call me that!" I grit out.
"Alec!" I am suddenly ripped away from my mother with an invisible force, my back hitting my desk with a thud — Bellatrix.
"Are you okay ma'am?!" She asks my mother, rushing to her side. Her scent wafts through my nose and I inhale deeply, allowing her very essence to soothe my raging soul.
"Help her to the dining, and get the table set, we will be out in a minute" she instructs the omega that had come with her.
"Yes, Luna" A faint smile ghosts my lips at the title and the fact that she isn't antagonizing it.
"Alec" Bellatrix is by my side now, and fuck does she look so fresking elegant in the beautiful sundress she is dressed in.
"You saw that" I am not asking, because of course she did, but she answers either way.
"I did"
"And you know who she is?"
She shrugs, "the resemblance will be guilty of helping me out, don't you think?" She pauses to take a long stare at me. I do not know what to expect from her when she speaks again. "C'mon let us go to eat then you can explain everything to me, besides we do have a lot to talk about."
We do?
~~
[Bellatrix:]
I do not know what to expect as Alec and I take our seats at the table, given his behavior towards his mother a while ago. They are already settled at the table — his mother, Leila, and Logan. I can see the unease in Leila's eyes as she stares from Logan to Alec then to her mother and back again. Even she can feel the animosity from all angles, especially from both brothers. How the hell is Karen supposed to be with Logan if my mate can't stand him? That probably should not matter but it does to me.
"Shouldn't we eat? The food is getting cold" Leila says, thankfully breaking the awkward silence.
"Right, food is important" I quip in, laughing in addition, a very fake laugh if I might add. Alec's mother sharply turns to me and I almost hold my breath at her gaze. Alec got his blue eyes from her, icy blue eyes that seem to peer into your soul. I grab a glass of water from the table and take a large gulp, my eyes still assessing her warily.
Suddenly she smiles at me. "You are the second chance mate? And you are just like I expected you to be" I cannot make out the kind of glint her eyes gives me, but from the corner of mine, I see Alec balling his fists as his mother speaks, his orbs already turning red. This will probably end up worse than I imagined, I conclude.
Well, that is until Logan voices out; "of course, I mean he still can't over his first mate probably why he is sucking up to a resemblance of her" my mouth falls open just as Alec snaps out of whatever thin line of control he has been hanging on and lunges at his brother in a swift move, knocking down the chairs they had sat on. Whoever thought it was cool to put them on the same side of the table?
"Goddammit!" Leila shrieks, flying off from her seat. I am on my feet now too. I glance at Alec's mother and I am stupefied when I see her eating as if her two sons are not tearing at each other's throats right now. She sees me looking at her and she smiles, "sit down, eat"
"Eat? Mother really?!" Leila snaps. "You really did not just say that? I thought you had gotten better when you asked to get an Alec an housekeeper but clearly, you are just the same as you were when you left us with that asshole of a father fifteen years ago"
Okay, there is no love lost between Leila end her Father too — interesting.
My attention is brought back to Alec and Logan when I hear a glass crashing, followed by growls from both Lycan as they are now half phased into their wolf form. They just crashed the vase sitting on another small table sitting at a side of the room. "Do something, Luna!" Leila yells in a panic-stricken voice.
It takes a while for me to register that she is talking to me. I immediately swish my palms, using my telekinesis to push them off each other, their then both to opposite sides of the room also forcefully making them phase back into their man form.
"Wow! Bravo!" Alec's mother claps her hands, and Leila and I turn to her in shock. Is this woman okay? Alec stands, claws mark on both his face and Logan's, a dark look clouds both their faces.
"This Dinner is over!" He announces sharply.
"No, you should sit. We can still go on with the dinner" Alec's mother replies to him.
Leila frowns, "definitely not, this was a bad idea, to begin with. If you wanted dinner with your children, then you are fifteen years too late, Mother!"
"I told you I am trying to fix things, you all can't be like this forever"
"Of course, we are going to die one day, so we will be like this till the day we die. Forever isn't guaranteed." Logan's voice is hard and unyielding as he speaks but I probably am mistaken when I sense the sorrow in his tone.
"Why can't both my sons get along? Why can't you put the past behind you?"
"You wanted them to get along, yet you sat there eating while they literally tore at each other's throat, really, Mother?!" Leila exclaims, hurt clouding her features.
"They needed to fight their differences out, don't you think?"
"Fight their differences out? What happened to being humane?!"
"See you talking about being humane like we are humans to begin with." Wrong choice of words, Logan. My thought is confirmed when Alec's snaps at his brother, "of course, that's why you didn't think twice when you sold out Julianne to the rogues the first time right? Leauging with rouges to kill your brother's mate is definitely not humane!"
"That is the story you want to believe, you never even listened to my side of the story, Alec!" Logan shouts back, and a loud crackle fills the air as the atmosphere grows tense.
I watch with wide eyes as he steps forward, anger written across his face in dark shadows, "What do you mean by that? What the hell would be your side of the story Logan? You had a fucking knife to her throat while the rogues bared at her! goddamn it!" He screams, stepping closer as his temper rises higher and higher, his hands clenched into fists by his sides.
My mouth hangs open, watching the argument unfold between the brothers, and it takes everything in me not to step forward and separate them.
It was bad enough to witness the pain I saw in Leila's eyes, seeing both her brothers fight over something she had no control over made me feel sick, and now I've witnessed how far they could go without breaking down into tears.
"Alec, calm down, please," I try and speak up, but he only turns and glares at me instead, his expression cold and calculating.
"You have had your moment, Bella, now stay the hell out of this!" His tone is harsh but I'm not surprised to see that it has no bite to it. He steps away from me and towards Logan, his face hardening again as he continues, "We're done here, we've been done since the day you betrayed me, and I will not stand here and listen to you try to justify your atrocities!!"
