Not a Nice Meeting
Looking around her new room for the umpteenth time, Ava shut the wooden closet, left where she was standing then collapsed on the bed, laying flat. Emma and Dylan had just driven her down to the college some hours ago, and she would be staying with Charlotte in the same apartment. Sucking a deep breath, Ava was quite nervous about the whole thing. Of course, she was the happiest woman on earth, at least she would be free from Emma's consecutively nag. However, she still had to live under the same roof as her sister. Ava shuddered uncontrollably as her heart evolved in turmoil, she knew in mind that staying with Charlotte wouldn't be tolerant. The door suddenly swung open, revealing Charlotte, “Hey, little bitchy” she let out, her lips widening into an evil smile as she paced into Ava's room step by step. Charlotte's pace came to a sudden halt, her smile fading for a second. She couldn't help but glance at Ava on the bed, then took her eyes around the neatly modified room. She was damn surprised to behold that Ava had tidied and arranged the haphazard room within a short period of time. Ava, who had no interest in seeing Charlotte, shut her eyes tightly, thinking in her mind that speaking of the devil. “You shouldn't continue to lie there, Ava. Since you're done tidying up your room, come prepare something. I'm hungry”.
Ava's brows pressed to a deep frown, she opened her eyes lazily then sat up on the bed, “I'm tired now, Charlotte. I need to nap, please” Her voice was extremely low. Charlotte's hands began to tremble, and her eyes turned a bright shade of red, “Are you out of your mind?” she roared in anger, closing up the little space between her and Ava's bed. “Do I look like I care about how you're feeling? Huh! Tired or not, I do not care, Ava. If you're going to be living under the same roof with me, then you better not defy my orders, otherwise…” she broke off, the gleam flashing across her sharp eyes only affected Ava to tremble unintentionally. She watched as Charlotte left her room angrily without finishing her words. She buried her fingers into her hair, how could she be so naive enough to think that Charlotte would turn around and leave her room after learning that she was tired? Of course, she would never do that, she's Charlotte, a huge pain in her ass.
The following morning,
Ava was able to reach the lecture room thirty seconds earlier before the lecture commences. It took her half of the whole morning before she could reach her destination. She would have brought out her cellphone to check out the map, but her phone was already outdated and as the wallflower that she was, she would never think of asking people around for a piece of information. So gullible. After wandering for over an hour, she ultimately found the school map and was able to reach the lecture hall. There was a bright and attractive smile gracing her beautiful face as she listens attentively to the lecturer. It felt like a dream come true, now she would study harder, pass with distinctions and make her family proud, Hazel especially. Thinking of Hazel, she hasn't called to inform her that she was now in college. Ava glanced at her ancient cellphone, which her parents had decided to give back to her yesterday when they were bringing her to the apartment. Several moments later, the lecturer had left the hall after he was done with his brief teaching, and the students were now leaving one after the other. However, Ava was still sitting down, not intending to leave anytime soon. She needed to go to the school library, but how would she find the map? Recalling how she had almost lost her way this morning. “Now explain to me why you came late, Freya?” the voice echoed in the space. Ava was slightly stunned by the voice, she had thought she was the only person who hadn't left the hall. Tilting her head to the source of the voice, Ava saw a guy and a lady standing close to each other at the end of the hall, the guy was staring at the girl heatedly behind his pair of glasses.
Freya rolled her eyeballs, weaving her arms beneath her breasts, “Now explain to me why you seem affected by it, Caleb?” she also slammed back, looking at his face bit by bit. Adjusting his glasses and looking away, “I'm not affected, Freya, I'm just concerned about your whereabouts” Caleb retorted calmly, not daring to directly look her in the eyes at that moment, he knew that he had overreacted. Nodding her head slowly, Freya could effortlessly sense the flicker of jealousy that was simmering across Caleb's face. “You're concerned, or you're jealous because I've gone to see Ryan?” Freya spoke her mind, causing Caleb's jaw to drop in terror. He couldn't utter any sound when parting his lips, which only confirmed Freya's guess. She turned around, striding away with her bag, “Come on now, let's go have lunch” she announced, obviously trying to change the topic. Caleb gnawed on his bottom lip, following closely behind Freya. He didn't want to admit that he wasn't happy with that. “Hello. Please excuse me” Ava's soft voice ceased their pace immediately. Both Freya and Caleb glanced at each other with a blink, they were as well surprised to see that Ava was here during their whole ordeal. Briskly, Ava left where she was and came forward, wearing an apologetic expression, “I'm so sorry for bothering you two. But could you please tell me where the school library is located?” This time, they exchanged a knowing glance, then looked over at Ava again. “You're a newbie, isn't it?” Freya was the first person to talk, having a friendly smile on her face. Ava nodded, putting on a smile too. “Whoa, it's nice to meet a beautiful girl as you in my department” Freya said, stretching forth her hand for a handshake. “I'm Freya and this is Caleb, my friend” Freya introduced with a broad smile on her face. Ava took her hand, blushing deeply from Freya words, “My name is Ava, and you're a beautiful girl too, Freya” Heeding to Ava's last words, Freya cheeks morphed into a shade of red in an instant. Caleb also stretched out his hand with a warm smile, Ava took it, “It's really nice to meet the both of you,” she conceded, “The pleasure is all ours, Ava” Freya and Caleb said simultaneously, and they all laughed briefly. “Come on, Ava, let's have lunch first, then Caleb and I would bring you to the school library afterwards” Freya suggested then grabbed Ava's hand without waiting for her reaction. Caleb stood there motionlessly, watching the girl's receding figure. Has he become unnoticed to Freya now?
The three of them seated themselves in a cafeteria inside the school premises. “So tell me, Ava. What would you like to have?” Freya asked nicely, ignoring Caleb completely. Ava seemed to soon notice the depressing expression on Caleb's face. It was pretty apparent that Freya had been bestowing all her attention on Ava and wouldn't even pay any heed to Caleb. Ava wouldn't like to come in between them, she could tell they both shared a strong relationship from what she'd discern earlier in the hall. “Tell us, Caleb, what should we have?” she asked him, lively. A touch of smile appeared on Caleb's lips, “No, Ava, you're the newbie here, so we should treat you like one. What should we have?” he returned her question with a charmed smile? Ava opened her mouth to protest, but her words were stuck in her throat by some screams. Not only Ava was taken aback by the noise, including Caleb and Freya and some other people in the cafeteria. “Really? His company had launched a new perfume for just ladies?” Layla brook beamed with happiness as she faced her friend that just conveyed the information. “Yes, Layla. I'm even surprised you haven't heard about it” the girl let out, looking awed for she knew how crazy Layla was, over anything applicable to Zachary Gonzalez. Unable to wipe her smile from her face, “Don't mind me, Mia” Layla said. “Actually, I was pissed at Zachary for embarrassing me in public, and I've vowed never to like him again” Mia blinked her eyes twice, “You already met Zachary Gonzalez?” she asked in total wonderment. “Yes” she smiled, even though her meeting with Zac was nothing to write home about, Layla still considered herself lucky. Not only did she met Zachary, she was able to held his hand. “It was not a nice meeting, Mia” Cora, who had not contributed to their discussion, later spoke up. Layla's smile faded immediately, “I never said it was a pleasant meeting, did I? I only answered her question” she yelled at Cora, who in turn suppressed her lips into a tight line to stop herself from laughing at her friend.
