They Are Sisters

In the relatively cozy living room, white wall, pink curtains, a set of stereo speakers, and just a long settee. There sat Freya, immersed in the cell in her hands. “Here you go,” Ava's cheerful voice seemed to bring her back to reality. Her lips lifted in a bright smile as she tossed her phone aside and collected the coffee cup from Ava. She sipped at it and let out a loud hum, sniffing the delicious aroma of the coffee. “Whoa, Ava, this is superb” she praised, drinking from it again.

Ava could only grin as she sat down beside her, folding one of her legs. “You still haven't told me what happened between you and Caleb,” she reminded patiently, looking at her side face. The smile on Freya's face couldn't continue any longer as she lowered the cup to the tea table at the center of the room. She didn't want to admit that she was not happy with what she had seen. However, these indescribable feelings of hers had to stop.

Caleb and she were only friends. Moreover, Caleb was really far from her preference, so she was certain of her own feelings. It can never be love. Shaking her head decisively, “You should know by now that Caleb and I are just like cat and rat, we fight at any slightest thing. So, it's nothing to worry about, Ava” she said with a laugh in her voice, “Then why did he suddenly change his mind about coming to my place?” Ava asked, staring at her face suspiciously.

Freya sucked in a quick sharp breath and chuckled, “I'm afraid you haven't known much about Caleb, Ava, he does that most times, so I'm not surprised at all,” Ava continued to look at her, it was apparent that something was off between the two.

But what she didn't understand was why none of them were willing to say it. Seeing the deep curiosity flitting behind Ava's beautiful eyes, Freya waved her hands in the air and let out, “Enough of Caleb and me now, Ava. Who was that hot guy who seemed to be head over heels for you?” she shot Ava a knowing grin, but was stunned to notice the flicker of darkness that passed over Ava's face. “That was Cole. My ex-boyfriend” her response was solemn, looking in the direction of the speaker. When she was together with Cole, she was aware that he attends the same college as Charlotte, but since she had resumed the college as well, it never crossed her mind that she would be meeting him or maybe not anytime soon. Freya's mouth opened in an 'o' shape, inferring from Ava's grief expression, it was quite obvious that the so-called Cole had hurt and broken her which had left a profound scar on her heart.

Realizing the awkward ambiance, which she didn't quite appreciate, Ava glanced over at Freya and saw the anguish that was written all over her face. She cracked a rough grin, “What's with that look, Freya? One would think that I already passed away” she teased, and she was quite shocked to see the tears that spilled down her cheeks, “Don't be ridiculous, Ava. How could you joke with that?” Freya cautioned, sounding stern, Ava couldn't help but think that Freya was pretty adorable. She was crying on her behalf? Then what would she have done if she had known her during those times?

Ava moved closer to Freya and wiped off the tears on her cheeks before pulling her for a hug. “Don't think about him, Ava, he's a loser” Freya asserted firmly, rubbing Ava's back tenderly. Ava could only smile, her smile was beautiful but full of bitterness. Of course, she was starting to forget about him and was pleased with herself for how she had managed to disregard her back on the school premises. Disengaging from the hug, Freya wiped her wet cheeks completely, “I'm sorry, Ava, I'm easily brought to tears” Ava grinned with her dazzling white teeth in Freya's face.

She felt extremely attracted to her, she reminded her of Hazel,, and she suddenly wished Freya was her sister. Freya's eyes caught by the speaker, and she beamed, “Let's dance, Ava” she swiftly got on her feet and went to turn it on before Ava could even protest.

Ava's jaw dropped as the loud music permeated the room. Afraid that Charlotte might come in anytime and reprimand her for touching her stuff, Ava ignored Freya, who was already shaking her slender body to the beat of the song, and went to switch it off.

Freya's movement came to a sudden halt, she lifted her head to look at Ava, a deep frown etched on her forehead, “Why, Ava? I'm enjoying the rap, don't kill my vibes, please” her tone was stern and majestic as she went forward and switched it on again.

Ava suppressed her lips in a thin line as she stood rooted and watched as Freya danced spiritedly. Suddenly, the door swung open, revealing Charlotte and a strong, tall frame behind her. Ava felt her heart sprint out of her chest with no hope of returning. She swallowed subconsciously before hurrying toward the speaker again and off it.

“Ava, you…” Freya broke off, her gaze resting on the two people who were standing at the door. A lady and a guy, she immediately identified the guy, she had seen him earlier, and recalling who he was to Ava, her features twisted comically. “What the fuck is going on here, Ava?” Charlotte questioned calmly, summing up her steps into the room and casting Freya a who-the-hell are you look.

Ava lifted her head to look at her sister, “Nothing, Charlotte. This is Freya, my friend” she introduced, simply, hoping Charlotte wouldn't create a fuss in the presence of Freya, and It seemed she hadn't noticed the man who was standing rigid behind them. “Are you crazy? How dare you bring in a stranger here? What gut do you have, huh!” Charlotte blazed, looking at Ava ferociously. “I just told you she's my friend, Charlotte” Ava countered patiently, with a big mess inside her heart, “And who gave you the authorization to bring in people?” her tone was deep with a subtle sense of rejection, while she stared coldly at Ava.

At this time, Freya could no longer accept Charlotte's cold attitude toward Ava, “Is there anything wrong if she brings in friends?” she asked in a deep musky voice, putting forward a pace.

Directly, Charlotte's gaze fell upon Freya. She stared at her heart-shaped beautiful face that was already burning with rage and scoffed, “Who are you talking to?” her brows were tightly knitted, giving off the impression of annoyance. “I'm referring to whoever responds to my words" Freya slammed, the gleam flashing across her sharp eyes could not go unnoticed by anyone, even the blind.

During this whole ordeal, Cole remained quiet as a mouse. He was at a loss of what to do and only hope the drama would end soon.

Meanwhile, his gaze was sweeping back and forth on Ava's figure, who was in turn attempting to stop the drama that was yet to unfold. “Please, Charlotte, don't be upset” Ava pleaded, hoping Charlotte would just let it go. Charlotte glared at Ava and opened her mouth to talk, “Will you stop begging her, Ava? How could you beg her when she has done wrong?” Freya had lost her temper completely and as it seems, she didn't even care who Charlotte was. “Girls,” Cole called out, stepping into the scenery.

Ava was the only one who lifted her head to look at the person in surprise. She wasn't aware that someone had been looming behind them since Charlotte stepped in.

However, recognizing the person, her heart missed out a bit as she continued to stare at his face in a daze.

A veil of despair descended over her. In her opinion, Cole was the only ruthless person she had ever met. He had the gut to come into their house and even faced her, after everything he had done to her.

Could there be any worst thing that can be cruel as this?

In her daze, she didn't realize the number of tears that had pooled in her eyes, and before she could turn her face away so that she wouldn't have to look at him, the tears spilled out of their own accord.

“That's enough now, Charlotte. Forget it” he coaxed, holding Charlotte's shoulder. Charlotte then turned to look at him in the face with a forced smile playing on her lips, “Babe, I'm sorry I lost my temper in your presence. My sister can be so upsetting at times” she pouted her lips, lowering her head as if she were remorseful.

Cole could only smile uneasily, sensing the cold glare Freya was shooting at her. Freya was dumbfounded, she wasn't sure if she had just misheard now.

Charlotte and Ava are sisters? And Cole dated both sisters? She blinked her eyes severally and then consciously cast a glance at Ava who was trying so hard to keep her tears from falling, but they wouldn't.
