A Noble Man
Ava continued to stare at Layla intently, of course, she couldn't forget her face so easily. Layla was the same person who had slapped her when she was working in the coffee shop, only because she had sprinkled water on Zac's image. Recalling the event, Ava shook her head helplessly as she discarded her gaze from Layla and her friends and then properly turn back to Freya and Caleb. “Is there anything so special about Zachary Gonzalez?” Ava quizzed, looking from Freya's face to Caleb. Furrowing his arms across his chest, “Of course, there's nothing so special about him. Except that he's the youngest billionaire in the country” Caleb answered dryly, a hint of envious flashing across his sharp eyes. Freya eyed Caleb severally then looked over at Ava with a glossy smile embedded on her pink lips, “Apart from him being the youngest billionaire, Zachary has the look that could bring anyone he laid his eyes on to their doom. I bet he's the only handsome man God ever created” Ava put her brows up in incredulity, then asked, “You're also his fan?” Tossing her hair behind an ear, Freya lounged her hands on her chest, looking up dreamily, “I'm one of his crazy fans, Ava” she became serious almost immediately and looked at Ava, “Moreover, I've never seen someone who doesn't like Zachary Gonzalez. Well, except…” she broke off, tilting her head toward Caleb. “I don't hate him, Freya, I just don't like the fact that girls are always crushing on him” Caleb retorted instinctively, his face was flushed because of anger. “Point of correction, Caleb, you don't like the fact that I have a huge crush on him, not the other way round” Freya let out directly, having a deep smirk entrenched in the corner of her lips. Caleb was suddenly rendered speechless as he couldn't think of his next words, he just frowned at Freya coldly as if he wanted to freeze her. Ava had watched and seemed to understand Caleb's quandary. It soon occurred to her that Caleb likes Freya, but wouldn't let Freya know about it.
Arm in arm, Ava and Freya ascended the small stairs to the cafeteria, with Caleb following closely behind them. He seemed to be in a miserable mood since Freya had asserted those words earlier in the cafeteria. “We should spend some nice moments tomorrow, Ava” Freya indicated, holding Ava's hand as if she didn't want to let go. A trace of a smile appeared on Ava's face, she parted her lips to utter a word, however, the scene that was exhibiting behind Freya suddenly gripped her attention.
“How many times do I have to explain myself? Huh!” Hazel cried out hysterically, looking up in the face of the man standing in front of her, who was much more taller than her. “I do not like you and I can't have anything to do with you, is it too much to understand?” she had lost her temper and exploded with rage. “But Hazel, I love you so much. A chance is all I request for, please” the pair of handsome eyes pleaded, taking a step toward Hazel. “Get out of my sight now!” Hazel yelled at him before he could even think of his next words. The guy didn't budge, the corner of his eyes were tilted upwards, and his eyes were twinkling with light. He looked really sexy male fairy. “Hazel,” he called out, reaching out to touch her, but Hazel had walked out on him, propelling him to seem particularly pitiful to the few people who were passing by occasionally.
Turning around, Hazel was stunned to see Ava at that spot. Her eyes slowly changed from anger to calm as she welcomed Ava in her embrace. “I'm glad you're finally here, baby” Ava grinned with her dazzling white in her face, “Why did you do that to him though?” asked Ava calmly, watching the guy's receding figure. Hazel could only scoff, having no interest in talking about him. “How was the class? I hope you enjoy your first day in school?” Ava smiled, nodding her head vigorously. She grabbed Hazel's hand and spun around, “Meet my new awesome friends, Freya and Caleb” Hazel put on a wide grin instantly, pleased to know that Ava has friends already. Stretching forth her hand for a handshake, “Hello, guys, I'm Hazel. It's nice to meet you both” she greeted warmly, having her best smile on her face. However, Freya and Caleb were looking astounded to the extent that, none of them could bring their selves to shake hands with Hazel. Ava and Hazel exchanged a glance, unable to comprehend their weird attitude. “Ava, are you really familiar with Hazel Scott?” Freya quizzed, blinking her eyes at Hazel. “Ava and I are sisters, is there a problem?” Hazel was the one who answered her, a trace of impatient and hostility could be sensed in her voice. “Argh!” Freya screamed in excitement, jumping on Ava, who was taken aback by the sudden embrace. “Undoubtedly, you're a lucky charm, Ava. Just today, only today with you and I already met my role model” she continued to cry out, feeling great joy in her belly. Ava furrowed her brows in puzzlement, “What are you talking about, Freya?” Freya covered her mouth with a hand, pointing the other to Hazel, “She's my role model, Ava.” she disclosed, her eyes were already filled with tears. Hazel could only smile adoringly as she reached out and pull her into her chest. Seemingly, she was used to this kind of gesture. “I love everything about you, Hazel, most especially your mode of dressing. You're so amazing, but I never got the chance to meet you” Ava shook her head as she and Caleb laughed at Freya. Funny. Ava thought in her mind that, even Hazel, was some kind of celebrity in her own world.
Walking down the noiseless road, Ava clung to her shoulder bag, feeling inexplicably nervousness. She was just going back home after studying for several hours in the school library, not knowing that the time has really gone so fast. Even at how bright the streetlights were flickering on the street, Ava couldn't still comprise her trepidation. Soon, she heard a huge sudden movement behind her and her pace came to an abrupt halt, but she didn't turn around. She slowly turned her head and looked over at her shoulder to see herself enveloped by a tall and strong silhouette. Immediately, her heart thumped violently against her chest as she quickly spun around to look at the person appropriately. Sizing the person up and slowly taking her step backward, “Who are you?” her voice inevitably trembled without notice, gazing at the haphazard-looking man in front of her. “I'm a pickpocket,” he grinned, revealing a row of his brown teeth. “However, setting my eyes on your angelic face, I wish for nothing more but yourself” he whispered huskily, then suddenly clasped Ava's shoulders. Ava pushed him away directly and shivered because feeling disgusted. She stared coldly at the man and put on a brave face, “Don't come any close to me, do you understand?” she flew into a fit of rage. Just as she was about to swirl around, the man yanked her wrist and hauled her into his broad chest, and then clasped her hands, making her unable to move a muscle. The fear on Ava's face was now prominent as she screamed, “Help!” wriggling in his clasp and shaking her head to stop him from approaching her neck. Shortly, an eye-catching car screeched to a halt right in front of them. The color and configuration of the car were quite masculine. So one could effortlessly decipher that the owner was a man. Ava curled her lips in anxiety, hoping the person would just come down and save her from this hoodlum. Opening the driver's door, the person got off the car unhurriedly, shut the door, and leaned on it. Ava's jaw fell as soon as she recognized the person, her eyes curled into a twinkling crescent as she blinked away her tears. He was wrapped in an all-black suit, looking valiant and noble. Under the light, he looked magnificent and very handsome, it was just that his indifferent expression scared people away from approaching. “What are you trying to do?” he asked calmly, taking a few steps forward, steadily. The hoodlum's lips kept parting and closing, but he couldn't produce a word. He didn't know who Zachary Gonzalez was, but he could tell he was a powerful person from his aura. Taking note of what to do, he quickly let go of Ava, gulped down hard, and turned off but bumped into a broader chest at once. He slowly looked up at the man who was taller than him and could only shudder. “I'll take care of him, boss,” Lee said to Zac in his usual hoarse voice and without waiting for Zac's authorization, he lifted the guy up to the sky with just a hand, sweeping him off his feet completely. Seeing this, Ava's eyes dilated as she let out an exclaim in silence. Unexpectedly, she was dragged by Zachary to the passenger side of the car. He unlocked the door and gestured at her to get in, Ava stared at his impeccable face for a moment, then shook her head in the end. “No, sir, thank you very much for saving me” she declined, remembering what happened the last time he took her to his penthouse. She didn't want such to happen again. Not hearing a word from him, Ava looked over at his face but regretted her action immediately as she caught him staring at her in the face. Lowering her head, “I'm not refusing your kindness sir, it's just that, I don't want to come to your place” the nervousness in her tone couldn't be hidden. Zac gave a rough chuckle, clasped her shoulder, and made her sit down, after which he also turned around and get in the driver's seat. “Why are just heading home?” asked Zac as he ignited the engine and zoomed into the night. “I was busy in the school library and didn't realize it was dark already,” Ava replied, interlocking her fingers, out of nervousness. A silence stretched between them for a moment, “Who's Cole?” he seemed to ask unintentionally as he tightened his hands on the steering. Ava swallowed over the knot of emotion in her throat, she repressed her lips in a tight line. 'How much did she say that night?' “I just asked a question, Snow White” he turned and met her face for a heart-stopping moment that took her breath away. With her heart in her mouth, she freed her lips to pronounce a word, but the shrilling sound of her phone interrupted her, “Excuse me” she muttered as she retrieved her phone from her bag. It was Charlotte. She quickly tapped on the answer icon and held the phone up to her ear, “You lowlife bitch! Where the hell are you? Do you have an idea of what time it is?” Ava shut her eyes and removed the phone from her ear for a moment, “Charlotte, I was…” Interrupting her unfinished words, “Just shut up and get your lazy ass right here, you bastard!” and with that, the phone disconnected onetime. Zac stared at her swan-like neck and looming collarbones that were totally bare. His Adam's apple bobbing, he silently withdrew his gaze and focused on the toad again. Ava was already looking out the window and seemed like she was collecting her thoughts slowly. Bitterness and anguish were written all over her face as she thought in her mind that if there could ever be a day she and her sister would become friends.
