THE MISUNDERSTANDING
Ava parted her lips for some time but had a hard time forming actual words as she couldn’t abide the aura this big man was starting to emanate.
Meanwhile, Zac was very patient as he continued to watch her face carefully, waiting for her to say whatever it is she had in mind to say.
“By now, I think you should know the kind of a person I am, Zac,” Ava began in the most gentle voice. “I am this kind of person who hates attraction for myself and to tell you the truth, I’ve gotten more than I can ever imagined already,”
“I’m now the sole subject everyone discusses in school. Today you need to see how they were all taking my snapshots and most of the pictures were even posted on our platform for those who are not in school to see,”
“I’m getting fed up with this kind of lifestyle, Zac. I don’t like it,” she finished with a low exasperated sigh.
Zac readjusted on his seat, turning fully to meet Ava’s eyes.
“So if I should get this straight, Ava. Do you really want to do your internship in some other company when I manage more corporations you can work with?” his eyes opened with incredulity as he spoke.
With a nod of Ava’s head, she reached out a hand to hold him but he’d quickly taken his hand away before she could reach him.
Ava sighed. “You need to understand me, Zac. I hate attention for myself and if I should be caught in one of your companies will only fuel the whole thing,” her reasoning was cogent but it seemed Zac will never see things from her own perspective.
“Then I’m sorry to disappoint you, sweetheart. You’re not working slash getting your internship done in some random company if it’s not mine,” Zac deadpanned. His eyes were all that serious and Ava knew instantly then that he wasn’t joking.
However, Ava too was now getting angry at this point and suddenly she rose to her feet.
“Then it’s over between us, Zac,” she pronounced the words that came to her mind at that moment.
Zac was back at eating his meal but the instant he heard those words from Ava’s mouth, his face stilled and he gradually turned his head to look at Ava’s livid face.
“Are you threatening me right now?” he gritted out, some hardness developing around his forehead.
“No,” Ava cut in sharply, “In fact, I’m leaving right away and don’t even think of calling me until you change your mind,”
Having that said, she spun around and left the room. She appeared in the living room seconds later and headed where her belongings were staying on one of the loveseat.
Then, she grabbed them and then marched out of the place fiercely.
Zac has not moved from the position Ava had left him. He was just rubbing the space between his eyebrows continuously while his eyes were closed.
He couldn’t bring himself to understand Ava. He wished he could run after her and open her mind to see what was in it.
He nibbled at his lower lip while he fetched his cell from his suit pocket and placed a call through Nick.
“Boss,” the young man's attentive voice met his ear.
“Ava just left here. I want you to escort her back home,” he ordered in that natural cold voice of his.
Nick at the other end of the phone was silent with a lot of thoughts running through his mind. He thought within himself that what could have made Ava leave his Boss’s place at this time? Are they fighting?
“Do you hear me?” Zac’s seethed tone transmitted to his ear and he was directly pulled out of his thoughts and he nodded repeatedly.
“Yes, Boss. I’ll catch up with her soon,” he conveyed and he heard the line went dead before putting his phone back in his jean pocket and then hurried out of the big mansion to carry out his Boss instruction.

“I won’t give in to his command. I just won’t allow him to have me order around like I’m kind of his puppet or something,”
Ava kept on talking to herself as she handled the steering recklessly for the first time. She was not afraid of settling behind the wheel and driving for the first time.
She was so enraged… so enraged was she that the veins on her forehead became exposed. She could by no means understand the kind of man she’d chosen to fall deeply in love with.
Other normal and responsible men out there would have understood her point of view without her talking for so long, but her own man was nothing like that.
After she’d made him realize what she’s going through, he was still standing on his ground.
Who does that? She hissed loudly.
Just then, she noticed a car was fast approaching her with its full light glistening her mirror.
For about ten seconds, she was startled as she thought the men who had come to get Zac on that fatal night were here again to get her instead.
But soon, she recognized the blue tiny car and the owner and she just rolled her eyes as she sped into the night.
Deep down… deepest down in her heart, she could feel her heart warming up at Zac’s love and care for her in spite of their misunderstandings.
Moments later, Ava drove into her apartment, parked her car carefully and then got down from it.
Just as she proceeded to walk into the house, she heard his voice from outside.
“What’s up, Queen? Are you mad with my Boss?” Nick asked in a loud voice that echoed in the silent street.
Darn it!
“Damn you and your Boss, Nick. Go away,” Ava turned around and yelled silently.
From where she stood, she watched as the cute slim guy chuckled under the street light outside and she felt her own smile threatening but she refused to give in.
“You are really cuter whenever you’re mad, Ava,” Nick confessed, a wide grin spreading through his face.
Ava frowned further. “Don’t annoy me more, Nick and leave here,” she completed her pace to the entrance door after her words.
“Just take care of yourself, okay?” She heard Nick shout but she had bent the doorknob and stepped into the house.
“Holy shit!” she exclaimed as soon as she switched on the light and met the room in a whole complete mess and a very mixed smell rushing to her nostril.
Some bottles of liquor could be seen lying around on the floor. Not only that, there were also used condoms everywhere.
A few – like four to five -- were dangling around the long settee and she could also see the stains of semen on various parts of the innocent seat.
God, what’s Charlotte turning their home into?
The moment she planned to walk away, she felt something beneath her shoe and she took her feet away and saw a red rolled up G-string there and without a moment’s hesitation, she kicked it away annoyingly and hissed before heading to her room.
Getting to her room, a satisfactory sigh left Ava’s lips. She was more than glad everything was exactly the same way she’d left it.
Thank fuck Charlotte hadn’t thought of bringing her flings into her room.
“Argh,” she moaned out when her body retired to her bed. How she missed her bed.
She shut her eyes tightly, not wanting to admit that she was beginning to miss Zac’s comfy large bed more.
Thinking of Zac, she crawled to the bedside cabinet eagerly and then snatched her smartphone from her bag and checked the screen with a smile splitting her lips.
However, seeing nothing else apart from his handsome yet rigid face on the phone screen, her smile collapsed and she tossed the phone on the bed before lying down on her side.
She had expected to have missed two or three of his calls but since such has not occurred then it only means that he wouldn’t change his mind.
“Then so be it!” she yelled out to no one in particular and shut her eyes, forcing herself to the hands of sleep.
**********
The time of the night was lively and the nightspots were just starting. The bug lounge on the second floor was spacious and had a great view.
From where both Hazel and Daniel were sitting, they could see the entire bar and the dance floor. At the first floor, ladies and gents were dancing recklessly around in the red and green lights.
Hazel shook her body rhythmically along the music blaring from the speaker while Daniel watched her every single movement with keen interest.
He carried his cup of beer and took a large sip at it and his gaze unconsciously fell downward on his feet and his eyes instantly went wide in disbelief.
He peeked at Hazel’s face and was stunned to catch her staring back at him and it shows clearly on his features. Oh, no.
“Are you alright?” Hazel asked, concerned.
Daniel waved at her with a nervous smile on his lips. “Yes, yes. I’m fine” he replied and his eyes went to his feet again.
Hazel frowned and then she lowered her head under the table to have a look at what had suddenly made him uneasy.
Boom!
Coming out of the table, Hazel has busted into a peal of contagious laughter and Daniel knew instantly that she’d caught him.
And of course who wouldn’t? It was strikingly obvious enough. Like, who wears a pair of white sneakers and another pair of slide slippers and expects it not to be obvious? Nobody.
“It’s all your fault, you know,” he grumbled out while he tried to hide his own smile.
When Hazel had called and invited him out, he was so excited and forgot his senses because there’s no other way to explain how he’d manage to come out with two different pairs of shoes.
“Ohmygod,” tears were starting to gather in Hazel’s eyes because of how hard she was laughing.
Daniel couldn’t help his smile this time.
Watching her laugh like this amuses him a lot and he suddenly wishes the night never comes to an end. He wished they could remain like this for a long time.
“Okay, okay. That’s enough,” Hazel cautioned herself as she choked on the laughter that ripped from her throat.
Actually, she wouldn’t say that she hasn’t heard of something like this before but this is the first time she’s seeing it and it’s so funny.
Still snickering, she straightened out on her seat and grabbed her cup of wine and drank some of it to wash down the amusement that was bouncing around her chest.
“So, Mr. Lover?” she taunted, tossing a wisp of her hair behind one of her ears.
Daniel didn’t give any reaction, only watching her face in silence as if he was planning to memorize her features.
For the very first time, Hazel was uncomfortable under a man’s stare as she shifted in discomfort in her seat looking everywhere but not meeting Daniel’s eyes.
“Stop looking at me like that,” she warned in a firm voice – still not meeting his eye contact.
“Why? Has my stares started to have an effect on you?” Daniel lifted his brows in suspicion, extending his hand forward and put it on hers – compelling her to move her eyes back to his face.
She swallowed tightly but said nothing.
“Just give me a trial, Hazel. I promise you, I’ll never hurt you. I promise to be the most outstanding man you’ll ever wished for,”
A shiver went down her spine at the promise those words carried.
And like that, she watched as he stood up from his seat and turned around to where she was sitting and then made her stand on her feet.
“I love you so much, Hazel and I want you to be the only woman I’ll always love for the rest of my life,”
As he spoke, his other hand wrapped around Hazel’s waist and hurled her closer to himself while he heaved his head closer to her face.
In the next seconds, his lips landed on hers and two seconds was all it took for Hazel before she reciprocated the kiss passionately.
