THE BOSS’S ORDER

The drive back home was so tense. Ava kept stealing glances at Zac but his attention was outside the window.

He had not spared her a look since the ride had begun, he was just clenching and unclenching his fists which had incredibly become white from too much of clenching.

Ava was really terrified and nervous. She moved closer to him and uttered his name softly, “Zac,”

The big man still didn't answer her and Ava found herself blowing out a sigh of frustration.

When the car finally rolled to a stop in the parking lot, Zac pushed the door open before any of the guards could come forward to open it for him.

He strolled into the mansion with Ava calling out his name and following in steps behind him.

“Zac, I'm sorry, okay? Will you stop giving me this silent treatment already,” Ava snapped as soon as they got into the chamber.

Zac stopped walking and turned around to face her, “Do I look like a joke to you, Ava? What exactly do you take me for, huh?!”

His hands balled into fists as his intimidating form shook with rage, jaws clenching and unclenching.

“I swear to you, Zac, I've been so occupied with a lot of work that I wasn't privileged to operate my phone at all. I'm really sorry,” Ava apologized once again, anxiety erupting in her heart.

“You see that's my point here, Ava. You've ultimately turned me into a moron and it's no longer funny,” Zac snarled, putting forward a step while Ava instantly took three steps back.

The flaming of his eyes told her he wanted to destroy something, a volcano inside him wished to unleash. She had never seen him that furious before.

“You could concentrate on work without hearing from me, meanwhile I couldn't do anything… anything at all, simply because you were not picking up my calls.

You're driving me crazy, Ava, and I'm starting to hate myself! How could you be comfortable without hearing from me?”

A deep shade of red covered Ava’s cheeks while her heart raced and her stomach revolted. Her chest felt light even while watching the angry tall man standing right before her.

She knew this was not the time to blush or anything but she couldn’t help it after hearing his words just now. She was damn satisfied to realize that she was not the only one who thought the love she felt for him was nearly too much.

Zac finger-combed his hair and suppressed the sorrow in his heart and then laughed bitterly, “I still can't believe I set my foot into that forsaken company today because of a woman,”

“I'm so sorry, Zac,” Ava’s voice split as she lowered her eyes like a deflated balloon and her tears spilled from her eyes like pearls that had fallen off a spring.

“I didn't mean to worry you unnecessarily and if it would make you feel better, should I just quit?” she raised her teary eyes to meet his face which had immediately softened upon seeing her tears.

He took a deep breath and averted her pitiful face,”You don't have to quit. I'll just deal with the bitch who had overwhelmed you with a lot of work,”

Ava gasped, wiped her face and went closer to him, “What are you going to, Zac?” She looked worried when asking this question.

“Don’t tell me you're worried about a low-life bitch who had prevented you from calling your man today, Ava?” Zac’s expression tightened while saying the word.

Ava fell silent as if thinking about it. From the look of things, she had discerned that Stephanie didn't like her and not only Stephanie but many other staff members too.

However, the whole thing would only stir further if Zac should fight for her and she wouldn't love that. After all, the IT program will be over in a month so she can put up with everything until then.

“I won't do that again, Zac, I promise. From tomorrow onward, I'll make it a mandatory task to phone you before doing anything at all in the office” as she spoke profoundly, her arms slowly went around him, holding him so close.

And when his furious eyes met hers, she held his gaze, muttering some soothing words to him.

“I really don't know what to do with you, Ava,” he said, running his hand through his hair.

Grinning, “I love you so, so much, my sweetheart_” the words had not gotten out of Ava’s mouth completely when her growling stomach interrupted her.

They both looked down at her tummy at the same time and a frown instantly set between Zac’s brows.

“Have you eaten at all today?”

Ava bit her lower lip for five seconds before talking, “Fine, I couldn't eat a proper lunch but Felix got me some snacks. Therefore, I've eaten something today,” she explained but the frown around Zac’s forehead only spread.

His eyes looked deep as he stared at her but he kept mute, fighting with himself in his head.

Ava gulped and wanted to say something when he pulled her along, heading to the staircase.

“What do you want to eat?” He asked gently and Ava’s grin came back to her face and then she started naming different types of appetizing dishes she would love to eat.

***

“Boss can be very unpredictable, Reid. How could he force you to woo a lady all because he wants to find out some kind of truth?” This deep husky voice belonged to Lee, who sat in the driver’s seat beside sully-looking Reid.

Their car was parked among a quite large number of cars in the front of a lively nightclub with a few people hanging around outside.

The idea of Ried approaching Charlotte and going out with her didn't sit well with both Reid and Lee but what could they possibly do? The boss had given his order and it's their duty to carry it out.

Sighing, “I can't even remember the last time I talked sweetly to a lady, Lee. It keeps me wondering if I'll ever accomplish this mission,” Ried let out, his gaze staring outside.

“You have never failed a mission before, Reid. Moreover, the boss knew more than anyone that you could do this well and that's why he assigned such an assignment to you,” Lee reasoned out, looking at Reid who eventually turned his head to look at him too.

Reid gazed at Lee for some time before muting a disbelieving laugh. Out of all the cruel pranks in the universe, never had he imagined himself walking up to a certain girl when girls were always the ones flanking around him.

“Are you sure she's inside now?” Reid asked with a deep sigh, taking his eyes back outside.

“Yes,” Lee answered, tapping the screen of his phone, “My informant just said she's inside with her friends,”

Reid looked back at Lee, “Let me see her picture once again,” Saying, he’d taken the phone from Lee and opened the picture library, and there she was on the screen.

She had a beautiful face, a smooth forehead, big eyes, a pert nose and lush lips.

“Uhmm… You might genuinely fall in love with her, Reid. She's pretty,” Lee voiced out, staring at Charlotte's picture on his phone.

Huffing, Ried tossed back his phone and then pushed the door open.

“Good luck, bro! And don't forget to call me when anything goes wrong,” Lee shouted from the car but Reid gave no reply as he only shut the car, readjusted his collar and then found his way into the animated club.

It was glorified as the most distinguished club in the city and was a popular hangout for the rich and powerful.

Deafening music blasted on the first floor, where people were dancing their hearts out under dazzling colorful lights.

Ever-slowly, Reid skimmed over the ladies dancing on the floor and also examined the ones that were just hanging around with men, drinking and laughing out loud. He'd not come across a group of girls.

So he took the initiative and went up to the second floor and he secretly breathed in relief as soon as his eyes met Charlotte dancing with her friends on the floor.

The second floor wasn't as crowded as the first floor which granted Reid a very easy access to catch a glimpse of Charlotte.

Clearly, Charlotte and her friends were having a girls' time and they seemed to be enjoying every bit of it with the way they were shaking their bodies, laughing and clinking their liquor cups.

Reid walked over to a booth and gestured to the bartender to give him a drink.

As he poured himself a glass of whiskey, he let his eyes remain firmly on Charlotte’s body, as if memorizing her features.

After drinking a few cups, he rose to his feet, inhaled and exhaled sharply before gliding over to where the girls were.

He stood very close to Charlotte, his lips up turning into a pleased smile.

“Hello, pretty,” he pronounced, patting her arm softly to get her attention.

Charlotte stopped dancing when she felt a strong hand on her arm. She tilted her head and saw the handsome man right before her eyes.

His face was adequately chiseled like the sculpture with the edges, making him extremely gorgeous.

He was wearing a light green thin plaid shirt, the sleeves were rolled up loosely at the wrists simple but a bit gorgeous and it was somewhat sexy which was beyond words.

With the tall nose, the red lips of moderate thickness showed a smile which made people dizzy.

Charlotte bit down her lower lip seductively while gazing at his lips.

Reid discreetly smiled triumphantly, knowing too well he'd won the first step.

“I’m so sorry for interrupting your enjoyment but I couldn't help it any longer. I've been staring at you since I stepped into this place and I must say you're truly a beauty,” he said smoothly, keeping his smile.

Redness clawed up Charlotte’s neck and splashed her cheeks, she covered her over heated cheeks with her hands and lowered her head.

“If you don't mind, can we talk privately for a moment?” Reid raised a question, gesturing toward a seat around the corner in the space.

“Sure, sure,” Charlotte’s smile turned into this massive, ridiculous grin, and quickly followed Reid to the seat.

“My name is Reid,” Reid introduced as soon as they both sat down across each other.

“Charlotte. My name is Charlotte,” she stretched forth her hand for a handshake which Reid gladly took.

Reid smiled gently and said, “You’re so beautiful, Charlotte. I really wish we can get to know each other more than this. Do you…mind?”

Those words melted a crater through the middle of Charlotte, which made her feet falter and her heart swell to overflowing.

Seeing her grinning like a jolly panda set a kind of detestation in Reid’s chest. So cheap!
